139: Chapter 139 The Laws of Spacetime Are Finally Revealed
Subspace.
Chief of Staff Madeleine Rasmussen stood inside the Chengyu Barrier, one hand resting on the transparent wall, her lips slightly parted.
Her gaze followed a streamlined aircraft that had just silently glided off a floating track, tracking it all the way to the massive warships in the distance, her eyes somewhat glazed.
Sawyer stood half a step behind her, his hands hanging at his sides, fingers unconsciously pinching the edge of his suit sleeve, squeezing and releasing, squeezing and releasing, his Adam's apple bobbing several times without making a sound.
Harris lowered her arms from her chest, interlaced her fingers tightly in front of her, and kept her gaze fixed, unmoving, on those giant ships docked on the distant tracks.
Graves stood near the edge behind the barrier; his military cap had long since slipped from the crook of his arm onto the floor, though he didn't know when.
He didn't bend down to pick it up, only stared blankly upward, looking through the transparent dome at the crisscrossing floating tracks overhead and the beams of light shooting straight into the sky from the distant spire tips.
Mark Milley kept his hands behind his back, standing as straight as if he were reviewing troops on a parade ground.
Yet, his veteran hands, which had directed countless global conflicts from The Pentagon, were tightly clenched behind his back.
These high-ranking officials from the core of power in Washington were, at this moment, as quiet as a group of elementary school students suddenly brought into a university laboratory to tour a cutting-edge particle collider.
Biden placed his mineral water bottle on the transparent ledge inside the barrier and stood up straight, facing the base of the massive floating city as it slowly swept across his field of vision under the amber sky, his fingers interlaced in front of him.
His face remained calm, but his chest heaved a bit more deeply than before.
What he saw was not just shock, nor merely any single artifact of an advanced civilization within this floating city.
He saw that once this floating city was made public, at a moment when humanity was collectively jumping off the despairing cliff caused by π = 3, someone had suddenly thrown down a thick enough climbing rope from the top of the cliff.
But what was truly surging within him was far more than the hope of all mankind.
This floating city belonged to the Longevity Faction, and a Longevity Faction official had just told him personally that the prerequisite for cooperation was to be "ear-taught and face-instructed."
As long as he was willing to bow his head, this technological system, which did not belong to the erroneous spacetime, would have a chance to be used by him.
Extending life meant extending power!
During the peak of the Cold War, he had witnessed Roosevelt sit through his fourth term in the White House; in Roosevelt's hands, power had transformed from a pistol that could be disarmed by others into an iron gate that even death could not temporarily shake.
This era was more dangerous than that time, but it also possessed more unimaginable tools.
Only one thought remained in his mind now:
"If the Longevity Faction can truly help me extend my life, then I will sit in the chair that Roosevelt once occupied for longer than Roosevelt did!"
Just then,
on the screen of the portable spacetime curvature monitor in the hands of Gillian Frost, Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy,
a set of data that had been fluctuating constantly suddenly stabilized.
She cross-checked the readings on the screen twice, then looked up; the professional calm in her voice had been pushed to the brink of collapse, almost completely shattered by a tremor.
"Biden! Everyone! The spacetime parameters here... they aren't the ones from Earth!"
"The value of pi is not 3.14159..., it is 3!"
"This is the correct spacetime!"
"The same correct spacetime as the Zeta Star!"
When Hartford heard Gillian report the data, he turned abruptly from the transparent wall, took a step forward to stand before her, and almost snatched the instrument screen from her hands.
He looked down at the screen at the spacetime curvature calibration values, which no longer required any additional verification to align directly with the underlying logic of the Zeta Star Temple of Mathematics.
Hartford took off his glasses and wiped the corners of his eyes with his cuff; when he put them back on, his eyes were slightly red.
"My God! This is why they could build that Space Fleet of two hundred thousand and destroy all two thousand of Grey Alien' flying saucers!"
"All of their physical calculations don't need any correction patches!"
"From Newton's First Law to quantum electrodynamics, it's all written on the clean sheet of paper that is the correct spacetime!"
Margaret Vaughan, Director of DARPA, leaned over from the other side of Gillian, her slender fingers tracing an arc over the screen readings.
"They don't just possess a few hundred years more than us; they possess all the initial conditions."
"This is why only the Deep State can contend with the Zeta Star."
"The Zeta Star can build the 'Temple of Mathematics' to protect trans-spacetime equipment, preventing it from reaching suicidal stress under the curvature compression of erroneous spacetime."
"Likewise, the Deep State can also destroy this 'Temple of Mathematics'."
"This is a 'move-countermove' battle between two correct civilizations!"
Biden turned around, facing all the White House officials and scientists crowded inside the Chengyu Barrier, either standing or still struggling to control their expressions,
His voice was not loud, but it had immense penetrating power, each word sounding as if it had been typed steadily and irreversibly from an aged, cold, old-fashioned typewriter.
"Everyone."
"What we just saw is not just a civilization more advanced than ours."
"What we have just seen is a human civilization, just like us, in a correct and error-free cosmic spacetime, where every step from Newton's First Law to the Zeta Star Temple of Mathematics is planted on the correct cornerstone."
"Whereas our Solar System is wrong from beginning to end."
Graves picked up his military cap from the floor, tucked it back into the crook of his arm, straightened his collar, and nodded heavily in Biden's direction.
"This means... the Deep State is not just stronger than us by a few hundred years; they are more correct than us."
"Correct from the root."
Mark Milley slowly unclenched his fists, which he had kept behind his back for too long, and let them hang at his sides,
He stepped back half a step, leaned against the transparent partition inside the barrier, and remained silent for a long while.
"Now I finally understand why Zhang Long said 'ear-taught and face-instructed' earlier."
"It wasn't arrogance; it was stating a mathematical fact."
Above another floating track,
Diana Hopkins stood alone in her own Chengyu Barrier, her hands resting on the transparent barrier wall in front of her,
The amber skylight hit her cold, stern face from the side, making the faint moisture in her eyes shimmer in and out of visibility.
She couldn't remember the last time her eyes had turned red...
Probably a long, long time ago, on the day her father called her into his study to revoke her inheritance rights.
But this time was different from that time.
That time she lost a position; this time, she had bet on the right era!
The Longevity Faction wasn't just scaring Grey Alien, nor were they just flexing their muscles; they were hiding a cosmic spacetime that had been entirely correct from the very beginning!
Everything could be started over from here, as long as the Hopkins Family didn't let go!
