Chapter 22: Chapter 22 He Despises Women"Kiss me," I whimpered.

A low guttural noise rumbled from his chest, which made me press my legs harder.

Seconds felt like an eternity as I awaited him to claim my lips, but the seconds were already turning to minutes, yet I hadn’t felt his lips on mine.

I opened one of my eyes to see if I was imagining all of this in my head. My eyes widened in shock, disappointment, and my cheeks burned from embarrassment.

Damon’s eyes brooded over me as he pulled away from me. A whimper almost escaped my lips as a protest—the warmth that had enveloped me had been replaced by the cold air of the room.

I swallowed. ’What were you thinking? How could you ask him to kiss you? Why keep ruining things for yourself? Now he’s going to think that you are cheap.’

His lips tugged up a little, a glint of amusement dancing in his eyes, but his burning gaze didn’t leave me for a second.

"I thought you were afraid of me. Seems like I got the wrong idea," he drawled.

"I have just a few words for you. Stay away from my son... and I’ll find you later to discuss about what you just did in the meeting. Find your way out to get some food—I won’t be showing you," he added.



As my eyes swept over him to the floor, I noticed his veins popping out underneath his skin, his hands clenching so tight that his knuckles were turning white.

I fumbled with my hands. I had never been insulted to this extent in my life. He had rejected to kiss me. ’Have I lost my charm?’ I couldn’t help but wonder.

He gave me one last look before striding out of the room. My eyes lingered on the space where his retreated frame once was.

A loud gasp escaped from my lips. I didn’t realize I had been holding my breath all this while. My legs, which had already been weakened by his presence, gave way as I dropped to the ground.

My fingers shakily traced over my lips where I could still feel his lingering faint touch. ’What is wrong with me?’ There was this strange pull that made me want to bury myself in his arms. ’Maybe it is just me craving to be touched.’ I buried my head in my hands.

I was supposed to be looking for my followers, not here breaking down over a rejected kiss. But I couldn’t get the picture of him moving closer to kiss me, his lips brushing against mine, out of my mind.

Even though I knew this was happening too fast, I still couldn’t get him out of my mind. After a few minutes of thinking about what could be, the growling of my stomach rumbled through the air.

I sighed before getting up on my feet. I needed to find food first, and I needed to get him out of my head. ’Who the hell would want a crazy psychopath? Ember, you are degrading yourself too much,’ I thought, but it was only a consolation for my rejected request.

’A handsome, sexy, crazy psychopath,’ the other part of my mind corrected.

I groaned in both shame and disappointment as I walked out of the room dejectedly. It didn’t take me long to find the kitchen. I had noticed that my sense of smell had been growing stronger, which I was grateful for.

As I entered the kitchen with slumped shoulders, my feet halted at the entrance as I felt the burning gaze of the werewolves who were working in the kitchen.

"Who are you?" A lady with short curly brown hair dropped the knife that was in her hand, abandoning her vegetables before making her way to me.

She rolled up her sleeve to her ankles as she stood in front of me, her hands resting on her waist. Her brown eyes threw daggers at me.

"I..."

Before I could say any word, she cut me off immediately. "I don’t care who you are. What are you doing in my kitchen?"


"I’m hungry."

At my words, my stomach grumbled loudly, sending a shockwave through the air.

As much as it was embarrassing, I couldn’t be more glad for its timing. They should know I’m famished and I need food ASAP.

I had just been rejected—even though I didn’t make the request with full intention—my mind was cloudy and I couldn’t think straight. And now I needed food. I couldn’t handle another rejection.

"And you think we run a charity here?" the young lady asked with an arched brow. "Leave now before I throw you out," she barked in my ears.

Well, there goes my second rejection of the day. But I had a wild card and I wasn’t going to leave empty-handed.

"I belong to Alpha Damon. Can you bear the consequences of starving his PET?" I stared unblinking at her.



The next second, all the kitchen assistants and the young lady burst out in a fit of laughter.

The young lady laughed so hard that she was clutching her stomach before wiping away the invisible tears in her eyes.

"Pet? You belong to Alpha Damon?" she asked as she shot me a funny look. I nodded my head at her question.

"Guys, do you all believe that?"

"No," came their unison voice.

I shut my eyes in frustration. ’Weren’t rumours supposed to spread like wildfire in the palace? So why have these werewolves not heard a single thing about me and Damon?’

I parted my lips to speak but she beat me to it. "We all know that Alpha Damon doesn’t like to be around women. In other words, he hates being with women or even having anything to do with them. He doesn’t like to be touched by them. That’s how much he despises women."

My brows furrowed deeply in confusion. ’What is she blabbering about? Or are there two different Alpha Damons? Because the one I knew can be quite touchy... a little.’

"Which Alpha Damon are you talking about?" I asked, folding my arms across my chest.

"The only Alpha of the Bloodshade pack." Her answer was like a blow to my nose.
