220: Chapter 22 Tian Jun's Call
It was five in the afternoon.
The two ladies were discussing what to eat for dinner, completely disregarding his opinion.
He leaned by the window and had just lit a cigarette when his phone rang.
He saw the caller ID: Editor.
"Hello, Editor," Chen Shaoping greeted first.
"Teacher A Stick, the legend of the condor heroes is currently exploding in popularity in the wuxia section of the website, and its performance has only improved since its completion."
"When do you plan to start a new book?"
"A new book? I'm already writing it, but I haven't decided when to publish it yet. It's still uncertain."
"By the way, why haven't I received my royalties yet?"
"I'm sorry, Teacher A Stick, royalties are settled and paid on the 1st of each month for the previous month's earnings. They'll be paid in a few days."
"Can you reveal what type of new book you're writing? Is it still wuxia?"
"It's not convenient to reveal yet. You'll know when the new book is released."
Chen Shaoping could only say that; he hadn't decided what book to publish, so naturally, he didn't know what genre it would be.
Editor was momentarily speechless but quickly recovered. He had seen many eccentric authors.
Compared to them, Chen Shaoping was already quite good.
Since he wasn't willing to disclose information about the new book, they moved on to official business.
"Teacher A Stick, Renming Jiaodao Publishing House has contacted us. They want to buy the print rights for the legend of the condor heroes."
"And they're offering an 11% royalty split, which is considered very high in the industry. I think we should agree."
Editor truly felt the split was high; many veteran authors who had been writing for years might not get such a good deal.
So, he was confident that Teacher A Stick would immediately agree.
Chen Shaoping was a bit annoyed; being called 'Teacher A Stick' all the time felt increasingly uncomfortable.
"Editor, my surname is Chen. You can call me Teacher Chen."
"Alright, Teacher A Stick. I'll remember that, Teacher A Stick."
"What do you say about this publisher matter?"
Chen Shaoping's face darkened. This guy must be doing it on purpose, so his tone wasn't very pleasant either.
"Editor, is there something else you haven't told me? Besides this Renming Jiaodao Publishing House, are there no other publishers?"
Editor was startled. After a few seconds ofStunned, he replied.
"There is one called Hongzheng Zhengda Publishing House, but their royalty split is only 9%, a full two percentage points less."
"No need to say more, we'll go with Hongzheng Zhengda Publishing House."
"Teacher A Stick, why? Can you tell me the reason?"
"It's simple. I think Cao Wenxuan, the Editor-in-chief of Renming Jiaodao Publishing House, is an idiot. I don't like him."
"Teacher A Stick, please reconsider. You'll lose a lot of money."
"My mind is made up. Don't try to persuade me anymore. Otherwise, I'll bypass you and contact the publisher directly."
Editor had no choice but to agree.
After hanging up, he cursed, "Stubborn, so stubborn, not easy to talk to at all."
"Not making money, what an idiot."
As soon as Chen Shaoping hung up, the two women came over, one on each side.
"Da Ping, what good news? Tell us in detail," Li Qian asked eagerly.
"It's nothing much, just that my the legend of the condor heroes has been picked up by a publisher and is going to be published."
Chen Shaoping said it casually, but the proud expression on his face betrayed his true feelings.
"This changes things. When we negotiate with Hong Kong, we'll have more leverage!" Li Qian said, surprised.
Chen Shaoping was annoyed, somewhat displeased, "At this moment, shouldn't two beautiful ladies be praising me first?"
"I don't know anything about the situation, so how can I praise you?" Zhang Ying smiled sweetly, but her tone was a bit off.
Chen Shaoping had no choice but to explain the whole thing from beginning to end.
It was better not to explain; with the explanation, the two ladies laughed even harder, doubling over.
"Enough, you two! Can you stop laughing endlessly?"
"A Stick, hahahaha"
"Young Master Ping, the teacher who writes catchy lyrics with profound cultural depth, uses A Stick as his pen name for novels. You tell me if that's funny or not."
Li Qian laughed and complained about Chen Shaoping at the same time.
Chen Shaoping's face was dark. He took Zhang Ying's hand, "Let's go, Darling, let's eat. Don't mind her, she's annoying!"
Seeing his depressed expression, Zhang Ying pursed her lips and chuckled, letting Chen Shaoping lead her out.
"Wait for me! I won't laugh anymore, okay?"
Li Qian shouted loudly and chased after them.
The three went out and ate authentic Kyoto Roasted Duck.
Chen Shaoping thought the taste was just okay, nothing amazing.
But the two girls loved it, and even packed one from the restaurant to eat back at the hotel.
Chen Shaoping just reminded them to be careful not to get fat and was mercilessly kicked out of the room.
They also said they would talk all night and told Chen Shaoping to go to the next room and sleep early.
And to wake them up tomorrow morning.
The next day.
When they returned to Tongxing Entertainment Company in Yangcheng, it was already two in the afternoon.
Throughout the journey, the two beautiful ladies slept all the way.
They slept in the car, slept on the plane. He didn't know what they talked about all night, and they wouldn't say when he asked.
They just smiled without speaking!
There were six people when they went to Kyoto, but only three returned.
Yang Mengmeng had joined the crew.
Wang Bo and Zhou Bule were both in Kyoto to cooperate with Kyoto TV Station in filming promotional videos.
After filming the promotional video, Wang Bo would directly join the crew.
In between, he also had to find time to record the song Broken Bridge and Remaining Snow.
Looking at it this way, among the few of them, Wang Bo was the busiest.
After Kyoto TV Station received the song demos sent by Li Qian, they quickly decided to use the two songs, "Guangliang" and "Tiandi Longlin."
They even specifically requested the two to film a promotional video.
It was a bit troublesome, but not without benefits.
At least these two songs could be released earlier, without having to wait for the documentary to air.
Back at the company, Li Qian had a lot of things to do and immediately got into work mode.
Zhang Ying also went to the company's practice room; she had a strong interest in mentoring new talents.
Anyway, only Chen Shaoping was idle after returning to the company.
He lay on the sofa, with his hands resting on the coffee table, scrolling through short videos.
He had watched so many videos of sexy female anglers fishing, but it seemed he hadn't seen them catch a single fish yet.
Aren't they afraid of being called 'empty-handed' by netizens?
He didn't understand.
Just as he was watching intently, a trending video popped up.
He recognized the man in the video: Tian Jun, captain of the Criminal Investigation Team of the Yangcheng Public Security Bureau.
He was wearing a uniform, his brows exuded authority, and his voice was strong and resonant.
"Recently, our city's Public Security Bureau busted a new type of fraud syndicate called 'Fire Fox,' rescuing nine trapped girls... and seizing over 730 million yuan in illicit funds at the scene.
Their methods were novel, and all their victims were women, primarily targeting company executives, models, flight attendants, rich second-generation heirs, celebrities, housewives, and so on.
Their main culprit, Shi Mou, has been apprehended..."
Before he could finish watching the entire video, the name 'Tian Jun' flashed on his phone screen.
Chen Shaoping's heart stirred, vaguely feeling that this call was inextricably linked to the news he had just seen.
