40: Chapter 4 Fighting?
Chen Shaoping didn't say another word on the way back. Li Qian sensed that the atmosphere was off, so she didn't speak much either.
Wang Bo, on the other hand, watched Lu Han's apology video over and over again, giggling incessantly.
He had probably already put himself in Lu Han's shoes.
If Li Qian hadn't been quietly pinching his waist, he would likely have gotten even more carried away.
When the three of them returned to the company, Zhang Ying immediately came out to meet them; Zi Qi had already left.
Zhang Ying asked with concern, "Da Ping, so you went to pick them up."
"There was congestion at the airport. Are you all okay? I tried calling you, but no one answered."
Chen Shaoping said calmly, with an expressionless face, "Sister Ying, Sister Qian. You two wait outside for a bit; we're going inside to talk."
Li Qian didn't say anything, but she held back Zhang Ying, who wanted to follow them in.
Wang Bo followed Chen Shaoping in with a grin, saying, "Da Ping, do you think I was right, and you want to apolo—"
"Bang!"
"Ouch! Dammit, Chen Shaoping, why did you hit me?"
"Bang, bang!"
"Fuck, you're really pushing it, aren't you? See if I don't kill you."
"Ouch!"
"Hiss!"
The sounds of the two men shouting and cries of pain constantly drifted out of the office.
"Qian, they're fighting! Aren't you going to stop them?"
Zhang Ying was very anxious, but Li Qian held her hand tightly, not allowing her to go in.
Li Qian looked relaxed, not at all like someone whose boyfriend was currently fighting with someone else.
"Sister Ying, leave them be. Let them fight; it's not like anything major will happen anyway. If they really get hurt, we'll just get them treated."
Zhang Ying was mystified; she couldn't quite understand the way these people interacted.
After a while, the noise inside stopped.
The two men were sitting on the floor against the wall.
Chen Shaoping lit two cigarettes at once, took a deep drag himself, and then handed one to Wang Bo.
"Fuck, you're still the same. You always have to take a few extra drags when lighting up; you were like this back in school too," Wang Bo complained.
Chen Shaoping touched his injured face, feeling very annoyed.
"I feel like it. You got a problem with that?"
"I do!"
"You want to fight?"
"Bring it on."
With cigarettes in their mouths, the two looked ready to start fighting again.
Just then, Li Qian and Zhang Ying pushed the door open and walked in.
"Haven't you had enough yet?"
"Come on, continue. I'll record your glorious exploits for you."
Li Qian shouted loudly, her face livid.
The two stopped and even helped each other tidy up their messy clothes.
Zhang Ying walked over to wipe the blood from the corner of Chen Shaoping's mouth. Looking at his bruised right eye, she said crossly,
"You two are really something. Why do you have to fight over everything?"
"Wang Bo, you too, hitting him so hard."
Wang Bo said aggrievedly, "Sister Ying, you only see that he's injured, but you don't see my injuries. Mine are more serious than his."
Chen Shaoping had been careful with his strikes, deliberately avoiding Wang Bo's face—after all, he still had commercials to film, and having a bruised face would be hard to explain.
Therefore, on the surface, Wang Bo indeed didn't look like he had any injuries.
Li Qian glared at Wang Bo. "Serves you right! Apologize to Da Ping, right now."
"Darling, can we be reasonable? He started it. Why should I apologize?" Wang Bo felt extremely aggrieved.
"Then do you know why Da Ping wanted to beat you up?" Li Qian asked.
Wang Bo spread his hands with a look of confusion. "Oh right! Da Ping, why did you hit me?"
Chen Shaoping was speechless and said sternly, "It seems I haven't beaten enough sense into you yet. We need to continue."
Seeing Chen Shaoping about to go at it again, Zhang Ying hurriedly grabbed his hand tightly.
"Is there anything that can't be talked out? Why must you resort to fighting to solve it?"
"Wang Bo, haven't you realized your mistake yet?" Li Qian questioned.
Wang Bo looked bewildered; he truly didn't know what he had done wrong.
"Sister Qian, let me tell him."
Li Qian was about to continue when Chen Shaoping interrupted her.
Chen Shaoping lit two more cigarettes, took two deep drags, and handed one to Wang Bo.
"Fuck! You're still—"
After being glared at fiercely by Li Qian, Wang Bo forced himself to swallow the curse words he wanted to say.
"Second Bo, do you really think a top-tier star like Lu Han is so great? Do you want to be a celebrity like that?"
"Do you really think the congestion today was truly caused by crazy fans?"
Wang Bo asked in return, "Was it not?"
"Second Bo. Since when did you start preferring to believe a video posted online by a stranger over me?"
Chen Shaoping looked at Wang Bo with a hint of regret. It seemed that ever since 'the only one' became a hit, Wang Bo had been getting a bit of a big head.
Wang Bo's heart skipped a beat, his pulse quickened, and his face turned bright red.
Chen Shaoping said, frustrated that Wang Bo wasn't living up to his potential,
"I believe that fans pick up celebrities at the airport, and often in large numbers."
"But I don't believe that so many fans could show up at the same time, cause congestion, and nearly lead to a stampede without anyone guiding them."
"Sister Ying is more popular than him, isn't she? Why doesn't she have so many fans picking her up at the airport?"
"Use your pig brain and think about it."
Wang Bo stammered, "I... I..."
"I what? Think about it yourself. Haven't you been a bit arrogant lately? You're in a dangerous position if you keep this up."
Chen Shaoping's mouth was dry from talking, and he glanced at Li Qian.
"Sister Qian, you take over. I'll rest for a bit."
As the person closest to Wang Bo and someone who spent all day with him, Li Qian was likely the one most aware of his changes.
"Wang Bo, ever since 'the only one' was released, when you walk down the street and hear a shop playing 'the only one', you praise them. But if they aren't playing your song, you always curse them, no matter what kind of shop it is."
"On the plane, whenever the flight attendants brought you water or a blanket, you used to always say thank you, regardless of the service."
"But this time, especially on the flight back from the Wahaha Mineral Water company, a child passed by you and bumped you slightly, and you actually got into an argument with the parents."
"Afterward, you even complained that I didn't help you."
"Bo, think about it. Do you feel like you're superior to everyone else now that you have more fans and are more popular than before?"
Li Qian's heartfelt words were even more detailed than Chen Shaoping's, making them easier to understand and reflect upon.
Wang Bo looked at his girlfriend and his brother, his face flushed with shame, not knowing what to say.
It was true!
Would the version of himself from a few days ago have complained about Li Qian?
Would the version of himself from a few days ago have doubted Chen Shaoping?
Would the version of himself from a few days ago have cursed at people over such small things?
Had his mindset really changed?
He fell into deep self-reflection.
Chen Shaoping took a deep drag of his cigarette, slowly exhaled the smoke, and said softly,
"Second Bo, if you can't get your head on straight, I'll give you a fair warning first."
"I can make you, and I can break you. Chen Ting, Li Lu, and Bingbing are living examples."
"As for dirt on you, I know exactly where every mole on your body is. It's too easy for me to handle you."
Li Qian stepped forward and asked, "What have you two been up to? I didn't even know how many moles he has."
"Sister Qian, I'm right in the middle of my mysterious and unfathomable moment; don't go undermining me," Chen Shaoping complained dissatisfiedly.
These two jokes significantly eased the originally tense atmosphere.
Wang Bo understood in his heart that the two of them were giving him a way out.
"Darling, I'm sorry! I was wrong. If I ever do anything wrong again, just hit me," Wang Bo apologized to Li Qian.
Li Qian waved her hand. "Go apologize to Da Ping."
"Da Ping, I'm sorry, I was wrong, and I promise I'll change," Wang Bo apologized sincerely to Chen Shaoping, but then his tone shifted as he asked with a face full of curiosity,
"So... the congestion really was caused by Lu Han's shouting match with his fans?"
