106: New notebook
That slap ultimately didn't land, and Sun Binghe was rushed to the hospital. The subsequent matters were handled by Yang Bin and Nie Sheng.
Jin Lei didn't escape; he was almost suffocated when pulled out of the water.
Even more pitifully, he was still alive.
Chu Yilan would never let him off easily.
Sun Binghe's 'heroic deeds' quickly spread. The next day, Feng Yueshan came to visit with a fruit basket. As soon as he entered, he clapped loudly, "As expected of you, Special Assistant Sun! Teacher Shen said the scene was very exciting, like filming a blockbuster."
Sun Binghe had slight oxygen deprivation and physical exhaustion, but everything else was fine. After a night's rest, he regained his perfect appearance with rosy lips, white teeth, and a gentle demeanor. He accepted Feng Yueshan's praise magnanimously: "It was alright."
Yang Bin frowned, adjusting the IV drip beside him, wanting to say something but holding back.
"Stop scolding me." After Feng Yueshan left, Sun Binghe leaned back against the headboard, closing his eyes and saying, "I had it all planned out."
As soon as he finished speaking, his phone vibrated. He picked it up, looked at it, and then sat up abruptly.
Yang Bin: "Can't you move a little slower?"
Sun Binghe grinned from ear to ear, showing the phone screen to Yang Bin. It was a fresh bonus that had just arrived. He had to admit, Chu Yilan was truly generous when it came to his trusted subordinates.
Yang Bin finally smiled: "Are you short on money?"
"No," Sun Binghe said, enriching his small treasury, "but when it comes to money, of course, the more the better."
Yang Bin and Sun Binghe wielded significant real power. Chu Yilan had tempered them to be indestructible. Of course, neither of them was 'foolishly loyal'; in their usual collaborations, they never hesitated to profit where they could. Chu Yilan was fully aware of this, and not only was he not angry, he actually thought it was quite good. In Chu Yilan's view, if they lost even this bit of desire, then the special assistant's position should be given to someone else.
Yang Bin was alright, but Sun Binghe had been terrified of poverty. In his poorest days, he would rummage through trash cans all night long, just to find something edible.
Even during the period he lived at Yang Bin's house, he would still hide uneaten food from the trash can.
Yang Bin could tell that Sun Binghe didn't want to do this; it was more like his body had formed a habitual reaction, and not doing it would trigger a strong sense of crisis.
It wasn't until Sun Binghe completed his studies at lightning speed with excellent grades and earned his first pot of gold with Yang Bin that these habits were completely eliminated.
But his love for money, Sun Binghe remained consistent.
"Anything you're short on lately?" Sun Binghe asked. "My treat."
Yang Bin thought seriously for a moment before answering: "Shirts, I guess."
He really did need new shirts. Sun Binghe didn't just give shirts; he'd also given famous watches, clothes, and even half a sports car. As for why only half, it was probably because paying the full amount would be like taking Special Assistant Sun's life.
"Alright, the latest models!" Sun Binghe was quite generous. "I'll get you ten or eight of them."
Yang Bin just smiled.
He could buy them himself, but Sun Binghe was used to giving. If it were someone else trying to get something from him, they might not succeed. After many years as brothers, having gone through countless experiences, they could even be called 'bosom buddies.' Knowing that Sun Binghe only felt content after spending money, Yang Bin had never been polite.
"You rest well, I'm going to the company." Yang Bin checked the time.
Sun Binghe nodded: "What about Jin Lei?"
"He's with Nie Sheng, don't worry." Yang Bin said in a deep voice, "Nie Sheng has more methods than we do."
After Nie Sheng finished his 'private punishment,' he wanted to dig up evidence of Jin Lei crossing the line. Then he discovered that Jin Lei was practically dancing on the high-voltage line, which made things easy; he could get a 'long-term meal ticket' there.
After all the leaves fell, the drastic drop in temperature happened almost overnight. In the morning, before Shen Lian even opened his eyes, he heard the howling sound of the cold wind.
He wanted to eat Aunt Fen's copper pot hotpot. Shen Lian thought this to himself, but his body burrowed deeper into the quilt, mumbling indistinctly.
Chu Yilan tucked him in, guessing, "Copper pot?"
"Mmm," Shen Lian muffled.
Chu Yilan chuckled: "Got it."
Shen Lian had no morning appointments. At noon, he enjoyed his hotpot vegetables and meat as he wished, gave Chu Zhumi an extra can of food, and then took a car to Star Opening.
Hu Kailan had called him, saying he could come see the studio.
That's right, Hu Kailan had set up a studio for Shen Lian. Though small, it was fully equipped, with sixteen people in total, and their salaries were not low, so there were no slackers.
Shen Lian's wardrobe had been completely replaced by Chu Yilan a few days ago. CEO Chu was now completely open about it, buying whatever he found suitable, and if Shen Lian hesitated for even a second, it was met with, "Are you disgusted with me?"
Shen Lian thought, shouldn't that be my line?
Nie Sheng wasn't around, but it was understood that two or three Bodyguards would follow him when he went out. Shen Lian had gotten used to it. As soon as he arrived at the Star Opening building, he saw a group of people walking inside. The leader was none other than CEO Kuang, Kuang Chenghai.
Kuang Chenghai's face lit up with a smile as soon as he saw Shen Lian. He asked the Vice President and manager to entertain the collaborators first, while he strode over.
Jiang You was so scared she didn't dare move.
She had seen Kuang Chenghai reprimand employees; his aura was very strong.
"Teacher Shen." Kuang Chenghai seemed to know everything: "Your studio faces the sun directly, and the planning department across the hall won't bother you. Want to take a look?"
Shen Lian thanked him while following CEO Kuang upstairs.
The sixteenth floor was indeed spacious, bright and clean. All the employees came out to greet him, from stylists and public relations to finance and accounting, and even a legal consultant was provided. Shen Lian had a good memory; he remembered everyone after Hu Kailan introduced them once.
Shen Lian greeted each of them and gave them a small, exquisite welcome gift.
"Teacher Shen." Kuang Chenghai looked back as if with lingering fear: "Special Assistant Sun didn't come today?"
Only a few people knew about Sun Binghe's hospitalization; he had already returned to work a while ago. Shen Lian chuckled upon hearing this: "CEO Kuang wants to see him?"
"No, no, no, no!" Kuang Chenghai shook his head like a rattle-drum. "Seeing him during meetings is enough! So, Teacher Shen, are you satisfied?"
"Satisfied." Shen Lian was never particular about these things. "Thank you, CEO Kuang and Brother Hu."
Hu Kailan had tied his hair in a small braid today and mostly served as a background board. He smiled happily upon hearing this.
Later, as soon as Kuang Chenghai left, Hu Kailan poured Shen Lian a glass of water and quickly took out a script he had just obtained. "Take a look, are you interested?"
Shen Lian was astonished when he opened the first page! Wow! Anti-drug and anti-gang, police and gangster theme!
Looking at the producer and director, Shen Lian sat up slightly, his eyes shining, "Alright, Brother Hu, did they say what male role it is?"
"Which male role do you want to be?"
Shen Lian: "Number one."
"Dream on." Hu Kailan laughed, then his expression turned serious. "You can start thinking about that after this year is over. For this drama, the director extended an invitation for you to play the second male lead."
Second male lead is good too, just one step away from the first male lead.
Shen Lian flipped through the details for the second male lead. Hmm, a handsome, reliable character who ultimately makes a heroic sacrifice for his friends and for justice. Doable!
