100: Chapter 100 Lei Dapao: I
Su Yun turned and went to the kitchen to boil water and make tea.
Since someone had come knocking at his door, he couldn't very well not even offer them a drink.
Besides, the system had said that this was a boy bringing him merit points... oh no, a master had arrived.
He had to treat him well.
Five minutes later.
The doorbell rang.
"Ding-dong!"
Su Yun walked over unhurriedly and opened the door.
Standing outside the door, Lei Dapao had clearly tidied himself up on purpose.
He had combed his hair, although it was still a bit messy.
He had also smoothed out his clothes, although the collar was still a bit wrinkled.
But the exhaustion on his face could not be hidden no matter what.
His eye bags were big enough to hold two jin of rice, his eyes were full of bloodshot veins, and his lips were dry and chapped.
Was this really that imposing Captain Lei?
He looked just like an old migrant worker who had just come back from moving bricks at a construction site.
The two of them stared at each other across the security door.
Su Yun didn't speak, a smile that left people unable to figure him out hanging on his face.
He was waiting.
Waiting for this stubborn old criminal police officer to speak first.
This wasn't just a matter of face, but a matter of attitude.
When asking for a favor, one had to look the part.
Lei Dapao looked at Su Yun.
This was that charlatan streamer who had made him so angry he could die, yet whom he couldn't help but admire.
He was excessively young.
He looked quite spirited, but there was a teasing glint in his eyes that seemed to see through the world, making one's hands itch to punch him.
If it had been before, Lei Dapao would have long since pulled out his ID and sternly demanded, "Take out your ID card!"
But not today.
Today, he was here to ask for help.
Lei Dapao's Adam's apple bobbed, as if something was stuck in his throat.
That word "beg," for someone like him who had been tough all his life, was too scorching to say.
But he thought of that empty textile factory photo.
He thought of those children whose whereabouts were unknown.
He thought of the miserable state of those parents wailing to the heavens.
Lei Dapao bent his waist.
The angle wasn't big, but for him, this was already like breaking his own spine.
"Su Yun."
Lei Dapao spoke, his voice low and devoid of any official tone.
"I am Lei Dapao."
"I'm a rough man and don't know how to talk well. If I offended you in the past, please don't take it to heart."
Speaking up to this point, he raised his head, his bloodshot eyes staring fixedly at Su Yun.
There was no trace of his usual sharpness or scrutiny in his gaze, only a sincere plea.
"I beg you."
"Help me find the people."
Just a few short words.
Yet they felt as heavy as a thousand catties, as if they could smash a hole into the cement floor of the hallway.
Su Yun looked at this old criminal police officer.
The teasing and mockery he had felt just a moment ago were all gone now.
He had originally thought Lei Dapao would be awkward, or would use an official tone to say something like "assist in the investigation."
He hadn't expected this old man to be so straightforward.
For the sake of a few unrelated children, he was willing to throw his own pitiful self-esteem on the ground like trash and trample on it.
This was a real man.
He was a police officer worthy of respect.
The smile on Su Yun's face faded a bit, becoming more serious.
He didn't want to put on airs anymore.
In the face of such pure kindness and responsibility, acting cool would be an insult to the person.
"Captain Lei, you're too serious."
Su Yun reached out and pushed the security door fully open, stepping aside to make way.
His voice was very calm, but to Lei Dapao, it sounded better than any heavenly music.
"Cooperation between the police and the public is the duty of every citizen."
"Besides, how could I stand idly by when it comes to catching human traffickers, a task that accumulates merit?"
Su Yun made a "please" gesture.
"Captain Lei, don't stand at the door. Come in and have a cup of tea."
"Let's talk slowly."
Lei Dapao was stunned for a moment.
He had expected Su Yun to give him a hard time, or to offer some cold sarcasm.
He hadn't expected this kid to be so straightforward.
The heavy stone in Lei Dapao's heart loosened slightly.
He nodded, didn't stand on ceremony, and stepped into the house.
Su Yun closed the door.
"Captain Lei, sit anywhere."
"The tea was just brewed. It's Tieguanyin, good for cooling off."
Su Yun pushed a cup of hot tea in front of Lei Dapao.
Lei Dapao didn't drink the tea.
As soon as his butt touched the sofa, he impatiently took out a stack of photos from his pocket and spread them out on the coffee table.
They were photos of the recently missing children.
And that photo of Su Yun found at the textile factory, with a red cross drawn on it.
"Su Yun, there isn't much time left."
Lei Dapao pointed at those photos, speaking very quickly.
"The longest missing time for these children has already exceeded 48 hours."
"We came up empty-handed at the abandoned textile factory in the west of the city. Sister Hong and her gang have extremely strong counter-reconnaissance abilities; now, all clues are broken."
"And..."
Lei Dapao paused, pushing the photo with the red cross toward Su Yun.
"They have their eyes on you."
Su Yun looked down at that photo.
The version of himself in the photo was smiling brightly, and the red cross was drawn quite menacingly.
The line of text below it exuded a sense of ruthlessness: "You meddlesome brat, you're next."
If it were an ordinary person, their legs would probably have gone weak upon seeing this.
But Su Yun just smiled, reached out to pick up the photo, and looked at it twice as if admiring a piece of art.
"Yo, this Sister Hong's drawing skills aren't that great."
"This cross is drawn all crooked; there's no aesthetic appeal at all."
Lei Dapao frowned, "Is this the time for jokes?"
"Since they dared to leave this photo, it means they have already listed you as a target that must be eliminated!"
"Your current situation is very dangerous!"
Su Yun put down the photo and picked up his teacup to take a sip.
Dangerous?
That's perfect.
If Sister Hong didn't come looking for him, he would have had to go to great lengths to find her.
Since the other party had delivered herself to his doorstep, that was just mobile merit points.
"Captain Lei, I'm not afraid of them looking for me."
Su Yun put down the teacup, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
"I'm only afraid they won't dare to come."
After saying this, he reached out toward the pile of children's photos.
"Give me the birth dates and times of these children, as well as the specific times and locations when they went missing."
"Also..."
Su Yun raised his head and looked at Lei Dapao.
"I want the original copy of the photo with the red cross."
"That is to say, that piece of paper."
Lei Dapao was stunned, "What do you want that piece of paper for? It only has your photo on it; the technical division has already examined it, and there are no fingerprints."
A mysterious curve appeared at the corner of Su Yun's mouth.
"Whether there are fingerprints or not isn't important."
"What's important is that there is the aura left behind by that old hag, Sister Hong, on it."
"As long as this aura exists."
"Even if she burrows into a crack in the ground, I can still drag her out!"
Lei Dapao listened, feeling confused.
Aura?
What kind of aura?
Can this thing really be used to solve cases?
But he had no other choice now, he could only choose to believe.
"Fine!"
Lei Dapao took an evidence bag out of his pocket, which contained the original copy of that photo: "Here you go!"
Su Yun pinched the evidence bag, his fingers gently stroking the menacing red cross on the photo through the plastic film.
The red marker marks exuded a sense of ruthlessness, pressing deep into the paper.
This wasn't just a threat; it was more like a declaration of war.
"Captain Lei, this Sister Hong's handwriting is really not that great, but this killing intent is quite strong."
Su Yun tossed the photo onto the coffee table, a playful smile curving his mouth.
Lei Dapao was in no mood to listen to his teasing; those eyes, bloodshot from lack of sleep, stared fixedly at Su Yun, "Can you sense it?"
"Whether I can sense it or not, you'll know tonight."
