79: Chapter 79 Requesting Su Yun's Assistance in the Investigation?

That night, the office building of the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Detachment was brightly lit.

Qin Yumo sat at her desk, the coffee in front of her long since gone cold.

She stared at the blurry surveillance footage on her computer screen, watching it for the third time.

In the footage, the black Maybach stopped on the overpass for less than two minutes before disappearing into the curtain of rain.

That was their only clue.

Even the license plate number was completely obscured by the rain; the technical department had struggled for half the night and still couldn't restore it.

"Don't look anymore; your eyes are going to go blind."

Lao Hei walked in carrying two bags of steamed buns, looking as if he had just been fished out of the water, his clothes still damp.

He threw the buns onto the table, slumped into a chair, and looked somewhat dejected.

"Where is Captain Lei?"

Qin Yumo turned her head, her voice slightly hoarse.

Lao Hei pointed toward the small conference room at the far end.

"He's in there smoking; he's gone through three packs tonight."

"The technical department cleared out the wreckage, but apart from the pile of hard drives corroded by acid, there was nothing."

"These people really didn't leave us any way out."

Qin Yumo pursed her lips and said nothing.

Eight o'clock in the morning sharp.

The door to the small conference room was pushed open, and a thick smell of tobacco rushed out.

Lei Dapao walked out, his face dark and terrifying, his eyes bloodshot.

"Meeting."

His voice was low but carried a suffocating pressure.

The members of the special investigation team were seated around the long conference table.

No one had eaten breakfast, but no one had the appetite to touch those buns.

Lei Dapao threw a stack of photos onto the center of the table with great force, scattering them everywhere.

"This is the result of last night's efforts."

"A cup of hot tea, a collapsed tunnel, and a pile of scrap metal."

He leaned forward, bracing his hands on the table, staring intensely at everyone present.

"I, Lei Dapao, have been working cases for twenty years, and this is the first time I've been played like this."

"They walked away bold as you please, right under our noses."

"Can anyone tell me why?"

The conference room was deathly silent.

Lao Hei coughed, breaking the silence.

"Captain Lei, I think this whole thing is strange."

"Our operation was last-minute; no one knew about it except the special investigation team."

"But the other side had already planted explosives for a controlled demolition; this was clearly prepared in advance."

Lei Dapao turned his head sharply, his eyes stabbing into Lao Hei's face like knives.

"Are you saying there's a mole among us?"

Lao Hei shrank back, his voice dropping.

"I'm just guessing; otherwise, there's no way to explain why they escaped so precisely."

Lei Dapao snorted coldly.

"I'll investigate the mole."

"But the priority now is, where exactly is that woman, Sister Hong!"

He pounded heavily on the blackboard, where Sister Hong's codename was posted, but the photo section was blank.

"According to intelligence, this woman has already obtained a fake passport and is preparing to flee by sea."

"If we can't intercept her within 48 hours, once she hits international waters, this case is completely ruined."

"When that happens, how are we supposed to answer to the parents of the kidnapped children?"

Everyone lowered their heads, avoiding Lei Dapao's gaze.

Qin Yumo looked at the notes in her notebook, her knuckles turning pale from the pressure.

She hesitated for a long time, but finally raised her hand.

"Captain Lei, I have an idea."

Lei Dapao looked at her.

"Speak."

Qin Yumo stood up, her expression extremely serious.

"Our leads are all broken, and it's very difficult to find the person in a short time using traditional criminal investigation methods."

"I think we can try a different approach."

Lei Dapao frowned.

"A different approach? What kind of approach?"

Qin Yumo took a deep breath, her tone firm.

"Ask Su Yun to assist in the investigation."

As soon as these words came out, a few veteran detectives were stunned for a moment, then let out a few disdainful laughs.

"Yumo, what kind of joke are you making?"

Team Leader Zhang, sitting opposite her, shook his head, his face full of absurdity.

"Su Yun? That little streamer who tells fortunes online?"

"We are handling a transnational human trafficking case, not playing a murder mystery game."

Lao Hei also pulled at Qin Yumo's sleeve, feeling somewhat awkward.

"Yumo, don't talk nonsense; Captain Lei is already furious."

Qin Yumo ignored Lao Hei and stared directly at Lei Dapao.

"Captain Lei, you have seen Su Yun's abilities."

"In the Wang Dahai case, he accurately pointed out the location of the body, and even got the color of the floor tiles right."

"In the Li Le kidnapping case, he not only calculated the location of Li Guohua's son but also predicted the villagers' ambush."

Lei Dapao didn't speak, but his complexion had turned from black to green.

Qin Yumo continued.

"Just because scientific methods can't find a person doesn't mean metaphysical methods can't."

"I suggest we specially hire Su Yun as a consultant for our special investigation team and let him help us pinpoint the location."

Bang! A dull thud.

Lei Dapao slammed his hand on the table, causing the ashtray next to it to flip over.

He stood up abruptly, glaring at Qin Yumo.

"Enough!"

Lei Dapao's voice was deafening, making the window panes rattle.

"Qin Yumo, do you know what you are saying?"

"We are the people's police! We wear this uniform!"

He pointed at his epaulets, his fingers trembling.

"Handling cases is about evidence, logic, and field investigations!"

"You want me to beg a fortune-teller? A little streamer who hasn't even grown up yet?"

"If word gets out, what will the people of Jiangcheng think of us? How will our colleagues elsewhere mock us?"

"Saying that our Criminal Investigation Detachment is full of useless people who can't solve cases and have to go burn incense and pray to Buddha?"

Qin Yumo gritted her teeth and didn't back down.

"It doesn't matter if it's a black cat or a white cat, as long as it catches the mouse, it's a good cat."

"If we let Sister Hong escape just for the sake of face, that would be true dereliction of duty!"

"That Su Yun, he really has real skills, he's not one of those charlatan quacks!"

Team Leader Zhang sneered and interjected.

"Officer Qin, you are still too young."

"I've also seen that Su Yun; those so-called predictions are, frankly, just psychological profiling."

"Or he knew the information in advance through some channel and is just acting here to get traffic."

"People like this are best at using information gaps to fool young girls like you."

Qin Yumo turned to look at Team Leader Zhang, her eyes becoming sharp.

"If he's acting, then how could he have known the details of Wang Dahai's murder ten years ago?"

"If he's bluffing, then how could he have seen the children in the cellar from thousands of miles away?"

"Team Leader Zhang, please use scientific logic to explain to me where this information gap comes from?"

Team Leader Zhang was choked up, his old face turning red, and he stammered for a long time without being able to say a word.

Lei Dapao pointed at the door, his voice on the verge of exploding.

"I don't care what skills he has; in the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Detachment, this kind of crooked atmosphere is absolutely not allowed!"

"We are materialists; we don't believe in that superstitious nonsense."

"Even if we have to run on our feet and dig with our hands, I will find the person for this case!"

He looked at everyone, his tone becoming extremely severe.

"I am issuing a strict order: no one in the special investigation team is allowed to contact Su Yun in an official capacity."

"Anyone who dares to go to him for advice privately will be suspended for reflection immediately, and you can take off this uniform!"

"Do you hear me clearly?"

In the conference room, everyone responded sparsely.

"Louder! Did you hear me clearly!"

"Heard it clearly!"

Lei Dapao snorted coldly and turned to walk out of the conference room.

That back, stubborn as an old ox.

Lao Hei sighed and walked over to Qin Yumo's side.

"Yumo, why do you have to do this?"

"You know what Captain Lei's temper is like; the thing he hates most in his life is feudal superstition."

"You mentioned Su Yun in front of so many people; aren't you just throwing a spark into a powder keg?"

Qin Yumo didn't speak; she just silently packed up her notebook.

She knew very well that Lei Dapao hadn't seen the sense of oppression Su Yun exuded during his live streams.

That gaze that seemed to be able to see through time and space, exposing all evil to the sun.

She walked out of the office building; the rain outside had stopped, and the sunlight was a bit blinding.

The streets of Jiangcheng were still bustling, but in those unseen corners, evil was fleeing wildly.
