31: Chapter 31 Blackwind City, Buffet

Inside the Mission Hall, there was a deathly silence.

Wei Tiancheng stared blankly at the protective jade pendant on the ground, which had shattered into eight pieces. He subconsciously touched his cold neck, feeling an uncontrollable urge to urinate welling up.

He, a Genius of the ninth level True Qi Realm, a standout among the younger generation of the Demon Suppression Division, the Wind and Rain Sword Wei Tiancheng.

He had almost had his throat slit silently without even realizing it.

And the opponent, from beginning to end, hadn't even fully drawn his blade.

What kind of dimension-striking humiliation was this!

The lackeys around him were already pale with fright, their legs shaking as if they were dancing an "old-fashioned disco."

The way they looked at Lin Feng was no longer as if they were looking at a human, but at an ancient malevolent god wearing a human skin.

Lin Feng didn't spare them another glance, as if he had merely swatted a buzzing fly.

He collected the purple scroll representing the four-star mission and turned to leave amidst gazes filled with awe, terror, and a hint of pity.

Long after he left, whispers like the relief of surviving a disaster finally broke out in the Mission Hall.

"Mother of god... were my eyes playing tricks on me? Wei Tiancheng... was instakilled?"

"The blade didn't even leave the scabbard, yet the protective Magical Artifact shattered! Is this something a human can fucking do?!"

"King of Hell Lin... who came up with that nickname? It's too accurate! It's practically tailor-made!"

Wei Tiancheng was supported by his lackeys as he left, looking soul-shattered.

From today on, his title as a "Genius" would be a complete joke within the Demon Suppression Division.

Meanwhile, Lin Feng had already mounted a swift horse and was galloping toward Black Wind City with his little follower, Huang Fugui.

"Master, that move just now was incredibly cool! At that moment, I felt that the Wind and Rain Sword was just a tiny puddle in front of you! One stomp from you and he'd evaporate!"

Huang Fugui, nestled in Lin Feng's robe, was frantically flattering him via mental transmission.

"Stop your glib talk."

Lin Feng said indifferently, "Black Wind City is up ahead. Stay sharp and scout the situation inside clearly. This time, the opponents aren't brainless zombies like the ones in the mine."

"Understood! Just you wait and see, Master! I am now a second-rank Peak great demon; within a ten-mile radius, not even a female mosquito can escape my Dharma Eye!"

Huang Fugui promised solemnly.

One man and one mount kicked up dust and soon disappeared at the end of the horizon.

...

At the same time, in a hidden valley twenty miles outside Black Wind City, several tents were pitched, and the atmosphere was solemn.

This was the temporary command headquarters for three other Copper Medal Demon Slayer teams from the Nanyan Prefecture Demon Suppression Division.

Unlike Lin Feng's solo approach, they represented the standard procedure for the Demon Suppression Division when executing high-difficulty missions.

In the center of the tent, the terrain of Black Wind City was accurately recreated on a large sand table.

Three powerful Copper Medal Slayers were gathered around the sand table, brows furrowed, discussing fiercely.

The leader was a man eight feet tall, with a back like a tiger's and a waist like a bear's, his muscles knotted like iron lumps. His name was Meng Kuo, nicknamed "Thunder Fist."

With a cultivation at the ninth level Peak of the True Qi Realm, he was fierce and overbearing, a well-known fierce general in the Demon Suppression Division.

"No! A frontal assault is absolutely out of the question!"

Meng Kuo slammed his fist onto the table, making the sand table jump.

"Since that fellow Old Demon Black Wind dared to set an ambush to trap Captain Chu, he must have made thorough preparations! Black Wind City is currently a giant trap; if we rush in with so few people, we're just delivering ourselves as snacks to the enemy!"

To his left was a middle-aged man dressed as a scholar holding a feather fan. His name was Wu Yong, a famous "strategist" in the Demon Suppression Division. Although his cultivation was only at the eighth level True Qi Realm, he was proficient in Formations and strategy.

Wu Yong waved his feather fan and said slowly:

"Brother Meng, please calm down. Black Wind City is easy to defend and hard to attack, with treacherous terrain. Furthermore, the Wind Evil Sect has operated there for many years; the city is certainly full of eyes and ears as well as traps. In my opinion, we should prioritize 'stability.' First, send scouts to ascertain the city's true situation, map out a detailed defense layout, and find the nodes of the enemy's Formation. Only by finding their weaknesses can we win in one strike."

"Brother Wu has a point."

The last one to speak was a taciturn woman in green named Liu Qing. She specialized in tracking and assassination and was a ninth level True Qi Realm expert.

"But the choice of scouts must be handled with extreme caution. For Old Demon Black Wind to be able to trap Chu Mengxi, his strength is definitely not ordinary. Ordinary scouts would likely never return."

The three of them went back and forth, analyzing logically and considering all possibilities. From the enemy's troop deployment to potential traps, the impact of weather on combat, and even speculating on what kind of hidden cards Old Demon Black Wind might have, they deduced everything clearly.

This was the self-cultivation of a professional team.

"Report—!"

Just then, a scout responsible for sentry duty rushed into the tent.

"My Lords, a single rider just passed the perimeter of our defense zone. The direction... seems to be Black Wind City."

"A single rider?"

Meng Kuo frowned. "Who was it? Did you see clearly?"

"They were too far away to see clearly. Should we send someone to make contact? Could it be reinforcements sent by another prefecture?"

Wu Yong waved his feather fan and pondered, "Unlikely. The Division hasn't issued a general offensive order yet; reinforcements from other prefectures wouldn't arrive so quickly. Let him go. Perhaps it's a lone wolf looking to make a profit in Black Wind City. We can use him to scout the way for us and test the defensive strength of Black Wind City."

Upon hearing this, Meng Kuo and Liu Qing both nodded in agreement.

In their view, no matter how strong a lone wolf was, they wouldn't be able to stir up much trouble against the Wind Evil Sect's years of preparation. At most, they would just force the enemy to reveal some of their strength.

They continued to bury their heads in the sand table, formulating a detailed operational plan for the assault on Black Wind City that they believed was foolproof.

And the lone wolf they regarded as a "pathfinding stone," Lin Feng, had already arrived at the foot of Black Wind City.

He looked up at the city shrouded in the black-gray "Wind Evil" mist. The air was thick with a bloody and sinister aura.

Without stopping for a moment, he directly issued an order to Huang Fugui in his robe.

"It's buffet time."

"You're in charge of reconnaissance. Mark everyone in the city who's still breathing, whether they're human or demon."

"I'll be in charge of... clearing the area."

After saying that, his figure flickered like a ghost, silently merging into the shadows of the city wall and disappearing.

Huang Fugui, meanwhile, turned into an almost imperceptible yellow smoke, hugging the ground and slipping through the gap under the city gate.
