38: Chapter 38 Even Beastmen Fear the Thousand-Year Kill
Makabazi let out an extremely wild cow-like roar and suddenly jumped out of the trench.
His massive 2.3-meter frame was like an iron tower.
He raised that crudely-styled 40mm double-barrel shotgun and aimed it at the Orks charging at the very front.
"Boom. Boom."
Two deafeningly loud blasts.
A large spray of steel balls burst out like a metal storm.
Although they couldn't directly pierce the heavy armor of the Orc Bosss, the Gretchins and remaining Squigs following behind were instantly mowed down in large numbers, dying miserable deaths.
The shotgun fired repeatedly, each shell ejection accompanied by a thick cloud of gunpowder smoke.
Only ten meters remained.
Under the baptism of the dense web of firepower and the sea of flames, the greenskins' vanguard was nearly wiped out.
Only a dozen or so of the strongest Orc Bosss and a few scattered Squigs remained, dragging their broken bodies as they reached the front of the trench.
As for those cowardly Gretchins, they had long since scurried off to who knows where.
"Brothers, I'm out of ammo. Switch to melee!"
Pi She pulled the spear from his back, his voice tinged with madness. "Form up! Let's get 'em!"
"Kill!"
The players tossed aside their empty firearms one after another.
They pulled out battle axes, greatswords, and even sharpened pieces of rebar.
Not a single person stayed in the safety of the trench to defend; instead, they howled and leaped out of cover, launching a counter-charge against the Orks who were twice their size.
On the dirt slope behind the trench.
Black Rat and the thirty-plus scavengers from the Mountain Tribe had long been staring with their mouths agape.
This was the first time in their lives they had seen such a fierce, death-defying human army.
A barrage formed by dozens of automatic weapons had actually managed to halt the charge of hundreds of greenskins.
This was already shocking enough.
But what terrified them even more was the way these humans fought.
They saw an ordinary-sized soldier, in order to create an opening for his companion, unhesitatingly charge into an Ork's giant axe.
He used his own body to jam the Ork's weapon, allowing himself to be cleaved in two.
Meanwhile, his companion took the opportunity to leap up and drive a spear through the Ork's eye socket and deep into its brain.
This kind of life-for-life tactic, devoid of any fear of death, made them seem like more of a monster than even the greenskins.
Black Rat's face was deathly pale, his whole body shaking like a leaf.
"These... these aren't humans at all," he muttered, his teeth chattering.
Before he could finish speaking.
On the other side of the battlefield, an incredibly eerie, soul-shuddering pale white light suddenly flared up.
Black Rat turned his head, his pupils shrinking to pinpricks.
He saw a human soldier wearing a leather coat and a hood standing in front of an Orc Boss.
On that soldier's arm, a cluster of pale white flames burned—flames that lacked any heat yet exuded an aura of endless destruction from the Warp.
"Go to hell, scum!"
Use Fire Punch laughed maniacally as he slammed a fist into the Orc Boss's chest.
The pale Warp Soulfire instantly engulfed the Ork.
Without even having time to scream, the powerful Ork was burned into charcoal within seconds, dissipating in the wind.
Flame Fist himself was not faring well either.
The price of forcibly using psychic powers was heavy.
Dark red blood was constantly oozing from his nostrils, the corners of his eyes, and his ears, dripping down his cheeks.
But he didn't care at all; instead, his laughter became increasingly deranged.
"Hahahaha! I'm a mage! I'm invincible!"
Looking at this madman bleeding from his seven orifices and releasing demonic fire with his bare hands.
Black Rat's psychological defenses completely crumbled.
He slumped to the ground, his legs kicking frantically as he backed away, his face smeared with tears and snot.
"Devils... they're all devils..." Black Rat screamed incoherently. "Those are demons from hell!"
The Mountain Tribe scavengers were also scared out of their wits. If it weren't for Lin Li's previous order that anyone who retreated would be executed, they would have dropped their weapons and fled for their lives long ago.
In the center of the battlefield.
Just as the players were about to finish off the remaining dozen or so Orc Bosss.
"Thud. Thud. Thud."
The sound of something massive running, so heavy it caused the ground to crack, echoed from the depths of the darkness.
"Get out of the way!" Liver Emperor keenly sensed the danger and shouted, pushing aside a nearby companion.
The next second.
A giant mutant Squig, the size of a small armored car, crashed right through the burning Chevaux-de-frise and roared into the crowd.
Riding on the Squig's back was a terrifying existence over three meters tall, clad in heavy metal plates.
The Warlord, Black Claw.
"Humie. Die!"
Black Claw let out a thunderous roar, and the giant claw in his hand swung violently.
A player who hadn't reacted in time was instantly torn into several pieces, weapon and all, by that massive metal claw.
Blood and organs splattered all over the ground.
"Holy crap, it's a Boss! The Boss has spawned! It's the Orc Warboss!"
Instead of being afraid, a more greedy light shone in the players' eyes.
This was a leader-class monster.
Killing it would mean rewards that were absolutely insane.
"Don't steal it! It's mine!"
Flame Fist and Makabazi shouted at the same time, charging toward Black Claw from two different directions.
The blood from Flame Fist's nostrils flowed even more fiercely.
He pushed the psychic energy he could withstand to the limit, pressed his palms together, and shoved them forward.
A ball of pale fire, even larger than the one before, directly ignited the giant Squig beneath Black Claw.
The mutant Squig was incredibly tough, but under the burning of the Warp Soulfire, which struck directly at the soul, it let out a shrill scream and rolled frantically on the ground.
It didn't last ten seconds before its massive body collapsed with a crash, turning into a pile of charred, foul-smelling meat.
The moment the Squig fell, Black Claw nimbly leaped into the air.
As he landed, the Power Claw on his right arm brought a gust of blood-scented wind, sweeping directly toward the exhausted Flame Fist.
"Bang!"
Flame Fist didn't even have the strength to dodge; he was swatted away, slamming into the ground like a ragdoll and being forced to log out on the spot.
"WAAAGH!"
Having succeeded in his strike, Black Claw roared toward the sky, preparing to continue his slaughter.
"Shut the hell up!"
The 2.3-meter Minotaur Makabazi charged over like a heavy truck.
Although he was a giant among the human players, he still looked like an underdeveloped shrimp in front of the Orc Warboss, who was over three meters tall and covered in heavy armor.
"Clang!"
Makabazi's giant axe slammed into Black Claw's chest plate, only carving out a shallow white mark.
Black Claw countered with a punch, slamming it into Makabazi's shoulder.
Accompanied by the crisp sound of bone cracking, Makabazi let out a muffled groan and fell to one knee, but he tightly hugged Black Claw's thick leg, refusing to let him move an inch.
"Brothers, let's take him down together!" Makabazi shouted, spitting out blood.
By now, the other players who had finished clearing the smaller mobs swarmed around.
Facing a high-armor Boss of this level, the cold weapons in the players' hands couldn't break its defense at all.
A flurry of frantic hacking only managed to kick up sparks on Black Claw's armor—it was true "scraping" damage.
But what this group of The Fourth Calamity lacked least was dirty tactics.
Can't win in a fair fight? Then play dirty.
"Stab its eyes! The eyes don't have armor!"
"Its mouth is open so wide, shove a Molotov cocktail in there!"
"Old Liver, hold the aggro! Slaanesh, flank it with me! Blast its rear!"
Several players with absolutely no sense of honor circled behind Black Claw.
Their eyes gleaming, they raised the sharpened rebar and spears in their hands, aiming at the Orc Warboss's extremely hidden and unprotected back door.
"One Thousand Years of Death! Get in there!"
"Puchi."
"ROAR—!"
Black Claw let out an incredibly eerie scream that even changed in pitch.
Its originally violent movements instantly froze, and its massive body trembled uncontrollably.
Lin Li, who was watching the battle from not far away, saw this extremely eye-searing scene and felt a chill run down his spine. A wave of phantom pain shot to his brain, and he unconsciously performed an anal sphincter contraction.
"These players with no bottom line... they really are a cancer."
Lin Li complained wildly in his heart, his mouth twitching.
He knew he couldn't let these guys continue to make fools of themselves.
If the Warlord went berserk, all dozens of these people would end up dead here.
"It's time to take the kill."
Lin Li's gaze turned cold, and he gripped the halberd in his hand.
"Hiss—"
The Medical Exoskeleton hidden under his cloak erupted with a low roar.
Lin Li held the halberd level, leaned forward slightly, and began to sprint to build up speed.
With the 500 kilograms of thrust from the exoskeleton, Lin Li's speed was startlingly fast.
The distance of dozens of meters was covered almost in an instant.
At this moment, the Orc Warboss Black Claw was in a state of extreme rage and pain.
It clawed a player in front of it in two with one hand, while the other hand was desperately reaching behind its back, trying to pull out that unlucky spear stuck in its back door.
It didn't notice the arrival of the Grim Reaper at all.
Carrying an unstoppable momentum, Lin Li leaped high into the air.
The Steel Halberd traced a cold, crescent arc in mid-air, thrusting violently toward the Warlord's massive head.
"Break!"
At the moment the tip of the halberd was about to make contact with Black Claw's helmet.
Lin Li's thumb pressed the button on the shaft.
The Compressed Nitrogen Device built into the front of the halberd instantly detonated.
"Bang!"
Accompanied by an extremely piercing explosion, a terrifying directional impact force slammed directly into Black Claw's helmet through the tip of the halberd.
That thick helmet made of crude steel plates was as fragile as paper under the double blow of the nitrogen blast and Lin Li's monstrous strength.
The halberd pierced through the helmet without resistance, sinking deep into the Orc Warboss Black Claw's brain and directly crushing its brainstem.
"Gurgle..."
A series of meaningless noises came from Black Claw's throat.
Its crimson eyes instantly lost their luster, and its massive body, like a collapsing iron tower, swayed twice before crashing into the pool of blood, kicking up a cloud of dust.
A few seconds later.
The players who had narrowly escaped death finally reacted.
"Holy crap, the NPC stole the kill!"
"My leader-kill reward! The dog developer is being a total jerk!"
But soon, rational players put a stop to the complaining.
"Alright, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. With the scrap metal we have, even if we scraped until dawn, we wouldn't have broken this Boss's defense."
"If the NPC hadn't stepped in, we'd all be counting down in the respawn point right now."
"The Boss is just awesome, that's all there is to it. That skill, that timing—it was so damn cool."
"Praise the Lord Administrator!"
Listening to the players' cheers, Lin Li slowly pulled the halberd out of the greenskin's skull and shook off the sickly green blood.
He maintained his aloof, expressionless face, hiding his achievement and fame.
