44: Not forgiving, just because I don’t care!
Bai Wanning couldn't help but click her tongue, looking at the long queue in front of the door.
The Apocalypse hadn't even started, and the situation was already on the verge of collapse.
She heard someone behind her complain, "It's only rained a few times. Is there really a need to scramble like this?"
Bai Wanning's mouth twitched slightly. Was it that these people genuinely sensed the crisis, or was it an instinctive panic brought on by the impending Apocalypse?
Human adaptability has always been astonishing... It is precisely because of this that Evolvers and Super-powered individuals would appear in the Apocalypse.
Perhaps they themselves couldn't explain why, but their bodies had already sensed a certain unease.
She ignored the discussions. When it was her turn to enter, she quickly rushed into the supermarket, grabbing whatever supplies she could get her hands on and stuffing them into her shopping cart.
"What the hell? These few eggs actually cost two hundred yuan? Are you trying to rob me?!"
"Look, a single corn cob is fifty yuan. Is this supermarket crazy?"
"A bag of rice for a thousand? This is trying to force the poor to die!"
"Look at this water... bottled water is already a hundred. It's insane!"
"Mom! Mom, where are you?!"
The supermarket was in chaos, with curses, arguments, and children's cries rising and falling.
Bai Wanning, however, remained unfazed.
She didn't even look at the prices, just stuffed everything she could use into her shopping cart... She knew that after the Apocalypse, the value of a bottle of water, a piece of candy, or a pack of tissues could increase a hundredfold or a thousandfold.
And she had to prepare enough before a complete collapse.
What a joke. In the Apocalypse, money would become mere paper. What would she do with these useless pieces of paper?
"You, you, you! Why are you grabbing my flour? Didn't you see I already put it in my shopping cart?"
A familiar voice came from beside her. Bai Wanning suddenly turned around and immediately recognized the person as Meng Suisui, and her always sarcastic younger brother, Meng Qibao.
Next to them stood a young girl who looked exactly like the siblings; she must be a relative.
"What do you mean?" Bai Wanning raised an eyebrow. Just as she was about to say something, she saw Meng Suisui grab an old lady's hand. The old lady cried out urgently, "Let go of me! Why are you grabbing an old woman like me? Oh dear! Come and see, this young person is bullying an elder! My hand is almost torn off! I just couldn't reach the counter and wanted to get some rice flour. How can you be so unreasonable? I didn't do anything wrong!"
Meng Suisui had clearly never seen such a street-side scam. Her face flushed, and she stammered, "I, I didn't use much strength. Don't wrongly accuse me..."
The old lady was about to add fuel to the fire, but Bai Wanning had already walked forward impatiently, twisted her arm, and unceremoniously snatched the bag of flour from her hand.
"Ow, ow, ow!" The old lady didn't expect the girl to actually use force and screamed in pain.
"Next time you want to stage a scam, find someone with poorer eyesight," Bai Wanning sneered, pushing her away. "If you dare to cause trouble in front of me again, be careful, I might really twist your arm off."
After speaking, she glanced at Meng Suisui, who was still frozen in place, and said in a cold yet cautionary tone, "Now is not the time to be reasonable. Grab what you can; don't just stand there."
Having said that, she turned and walked quickly to the side of the aisle, casually grabbing a cabbage and stuffing it directly into her shopping cart.
She was willing to help Meng Suisui only because this woman had helped her once, but Bai Wanning was not a bleeding heart; she wouldn't condone everything about someone just for a tiny bit of kindness.
Meng Suisui watched her retreating back, gritted her teeth, and turned to her brother and cousin, whispering, "What are you looking at? Just grab anything!" As she spoke, she reached out and swept the vegetables and eggs from the old lady's shopping cart into her own.
Meng Qibao also didn't hesitate, swiftly throwing the remaining few bags of vermicelli and frozen dumplings into the cart.
But Meng Anzhi stood still, her face full of disdain.
"Ah, you damn scoundrels! Those are all my things!" The old lady angrily lunged forward, but Meng Qibao sneered, "Empty words! You say it's yours, so it must be yours? Do you have proof? You old hag, get lost!"
The old lady's face turned purple with anger, but she was helpless and could only stand there trembling.
Meng Qibao and Meng Suisui walked past her as if nothing had happened, while Meng Anzhi looked at these two 'robbing' relatives with a complicated expression, her brows furrowed even deeper.
She completely couldn't understand why her cousin would listen to the advice of a washed-up actress.
Although Bai Wanning had long been cleared of her crimes, in Su Hu's fan base, she was still that 'venomous woman who framed Su Hu.'
Meng Anzhi was no exception; she had never believed Bai Wanning's narrative, instead finding her to be an out-and-out liar... selling her body and then biting back at others, utterly shameless!
Outside the supermarket, as Meng Suisui was about to put her spoils into the trunk, she saw Bai Wanning not far away.
"Miss Bai!" she called out tentatively.
Bai Wanning turned her head, looking at her with an indifferent expression.
Meng Qibao stood beside his sister, a few more traces of vigilance and scrutiny in his eyes, seemingly looking at Bai Wanning in a new light.
But Meng Anzhi behaved as if she had seen something dirty, merely giving Bai Wanning a cold glance before immediately turning her head and saying, "Sister Suisui, I'll wait for you in the car."
With that, she walked towards the car without looking back, completely ignoring Bai Wanning's presence, as if that was enough to humiliate her.
Meng Suisui looked at Meng Anzhi's retreating back, a little embarrassed, but didn't dare to stop her, fearing she might say something even more unpleasant.
Before leaving, Meng Anzhi didn't forget to glare fiercely at Bai Wanning.
Bai Wanning, however, just rolled her eyes, too lazy to bother with her, and turned to Meng Suisui, asking coolly, "Do you have something to say?"
Her tone was calm, yet it carried a sense of distance, making Meng Suisui feel even more awkward. She stammered an explanation, "My cousin... she's a die-hard fan of Mr. Su, so..."
Oh, so that's it.
Bai Wanning's lips curved slightly, without a hint of a smile, "No wonder she looks like someone without a brain."
Her words carried no emotional fluctuation, yet they made Meng Suisui feel as if she was sitting on pins and needles. Of course, she could tell that Bai Wanning wasn't truly forgiving, but merely too lazy to bother.
"You don't need to apologize for her." Bai Wanning finished speaking and prepared to leave.
Her steps were decisive and resolute, just like her attitude... I can overlook it, but don't expect me to forgive.
Although Meng Suisui wanted to speak up for Meng Anzhi, she hesitated for a moment, then changed her mind.
Bai Wanning wasn't someone who would act without reason, but why provoke such a dangerous person?
Besides, Bai Wanning and her cousin would almost certainly never meet again, so she didn't need to worry about Meng Anzhi anymore.
"Is there anything else?" Bai Wanning saw Meng Suisui standing still, speechless, and asked.
Meng Suisui suddenly snapped back to reality, walked up to Bai Wanning, and bowed, saying, "Miss Bai, thank you for your help just now. If it weren't for your assistance, we would have been at a disadvantage..."
"Ah, ah, ah!!!"
"Cousin, save me! Save me!"
