89: Don’t you know how to appreciate good people?

Bai Wanning had just displayed her strength, intending to scare off Bai Minghe so he wouldn't get in her way, but she didn't expect him to keep following her, making her hesitant to use her Ability.

"I saw you when you left the building, so I followed," Bai Minghe explained. "I was worried you didn't know how dangerous it was outside, so I wanted to protect you."

He paused here, then added, "Dad and the others are also very worried about you."

Bai Wanning merely curled her lips in a cold sneer.

She knew exactly how "worried" Bai Qingshi was about her.

She remembered clearly how he had sold her to several men for a bit of supplies.

If she hadn't been lucky enough to escape in time, she would have long been used as a tool for exchange, slowly being drained dry.

"Is that so?" Bai Wanning scoffed, "Then why doesn't he dare to see me? Is it because after becoming a pimp, he feels guilty even looking at me?"

Of course, she knew that the Bai Family Members and Bai Minghe lived in the same building.

She hadn't made a move because the time wasn't right.

In her previous life, Bai Xue and Su Hu had gathered forces and sold her son to that accursed association. They were jealous that she was living too well.

But now, they couldn't even compare to a single strand of her hair.

She wasn't in a hurry for revenge; she wanted to wait for them to slowly crumble under pressure, and then destroy them with her own hands.

What she wanted was not just retaliation, but complete annihilation.

She wanted those who had once supported the Bai Family and backed them to abandon them one by one, leaving them to cry and beg for death in despair.

Of course, this didn't mean she wouldn't act.

At this thought, her gaze sharpened, falling upon the bag of supplies Bai Minghe carried on his back.

Seeing the expression on her face, Bai Minghe felt a little uncomfortable.

He wanted to defend his father, but Bai Qingshi's actions were so unbelievable that he was momentarily speechless.

In the end, he could only sigh, "He's old and staying at home."

He thought Bai Wanning would be worried about their father or family, but she only sneered and spat on the ground.

"Old? He wasn't old at all when he pushed me onto a man's bed; he was quite enthusiastic. Don't defend him. I know, none of the family are good people. They're scared out of their wits, afraid to go out, and can only rely on you to bring them supplies to live."

Hearing her words, Bai Minghe couldn't help but frown.

He said to her, "Wanning, I know you resent your parents and Bai Xue, but there's no need to be so absolute. They might have made mistakes, but now isn't the time for you to be emotional. What will you do if you don't go home? Stay by yourself?"

Bai Wanning didn't respond, but stared at him, took three steps forward, and stopped in front of him. With her arms crossed, she said coldly, "I'm not alone; I have family who care about me. You don't need to protect me; go back and protect the Bai Family. You can only do that until the day you die."

She neither exaggerated nor lied in that statement.

Bai Minghe had indeed died protecting the Bai Family.

She would always remember Bai Xue pushing him out, yet he told her to leave. He had a chance to live, but he gave it up because he was worried the Bai Family Members wouldn't escape.

So, he selflessly sacrificed his life.

But even so, Bai Xue showed no remorse, only blaming Bai Minghe for not taking that step.

Bai Wanning didn't want to say anything more to such a fool.

She turned to leave but was caught by Bai Minghe's hand on her wrist.

"Wanning!" He was angered by her tone and couldn't help but shout.

He felt he hadn't done anything wrong. He just wanted to take her back, simply worried that she couldn't survive alone.

At a time like this, how many people would rush out of the building to protect someone else? He did, yet she showed this attitude.

He was good to her; could she really not see it at all?

However, just as his hand was about to touch her wrist, Bai Wanning grabbed him with a swift counter-move and threw him with a shoulder toss.

Her body was no longer weak; such a small movement was effortless for her.

Bai Minghe had not expected her to do that and fell heavily to the ground unprepared, letting out a muffled groan.

He stared at Bai Wanning with wide, disbelieving eyes.

"Wanning!" He called out to Bai Wanning, who was coldly looking down at him.

Bai Wanning knew that she had indeed let anger and frustration get the better of her, but she was truly furious at Bai Minghe's blind defense of the Bai Family.

She knew Bai Minghe's concern for her wasn't fake, but his concern was because she was a "Bai Family Member."

That was all. His feelings for her were based on the label of "family."

He was like a puppet, indoctrinated with concepts of "filial piety" and "unity" since childhood, without self-awareness, bound by so-called morality.

She knew it was hard for him to break free from these shackles, but she also felt he was too cowardly, clearly seeing through everything but always choosing to ignore it.

"I don't care if you want to continue being the Bai Family's servant, but I'm tired of acting, Bai Minghe," she said through gritted teeth. "My youth, and even almost dying, were buried at their hands. I've already paid enough; I can't bow my head anymore and let them continue to trample on me."

"If you want to endure, then endure; I can't," she sneered, her voice full of anger. With two lifetimes of grievances intertwined, she had long been unable to let go and would never let Bai Minghe become her obstacle.

As long as Bai Minghe didn't harm her or her child, she wouldn't kill this man who would eventually become a powerful Ability User.

She released his wrist and said coldly, "Don't think we can live like we used to. I'm telling you today, Bai Minghe, the Bai Family and I will never reconcile in this life!"

With that, she ignored the shock on his face and walked away.

The humiliated Bai Minghe was filled with anger.

He was Bai Wanning's older brother, here to help her, yet Bai Wanning scoffed at his concern and coldly rejected him.

He felt his self-esteem had been severely wounded.

He really wanted to turn and leave without looking back. When had he ever bowed his head in front of others? Bai Wanning was the first person he had ever humbled himself to and tried so hard to please.

Before the Apocalypse, no one dared to speak to him like that.

Bai Wanning was the first, and Bai Minghe felt he had given her too much face; this girl could say such cruel and hurtful things.

He got up, preparing to leave. As soon as he turned, his gaze fell on a zombie that had jumped from the supermarket roof.

Bai Minghe had always known that these man-eating monsters weren't smart.

As long as they could catch their prey, they didn't care where they jumped from. Bai Minghe turned to look at Bai Wanning and shouted sharply, "Watch out!"

Seeing the zombie about to bite a chunk out of Bai Wanning's neck, Bai Minghe immediately forgot everything that had just happened.

He no longer cared how she had cursed him. He immediately pulled out his gun, ready to shoot the creature down.

But before he could act, he saw Bai Wanning pull a dagger from her bag and plunge it fiercely into the center of the zombie's head.

The monster's head instantly exploded, and it fell heavily to the ground.
