59: Selling and gathering intelligence
So, the first thing he did after opening his eyes was to open his small notebook, record something in it with a pen, and then get out of the tin train.
He didn’t want to get involved in the matters between Tong Changshan and these mercenaries; he was just an intelligence provider. He gave them the intelligence, and they gave him spirit stones, a fair exchange.
He just didn't expect to see the cousin and sister pair again as soon as he got off the tin train.
Su Duo stood beside him, and seeing him get off the tin train, she smiled and said, "Hello, how many times have you taken this tin train?"
Zhuang Sanming stood behind Su Duo. He had wanted to take Su Duo away, but he hadn't managed to stop her, had he?
His personality was cautious, and he wasn't very keen on getting to know strangers, but Su Duo was different; she was very outgoing and liked to make new friends.
It wasn't that this was wrong, but mainly, making friends in the apocalypse carried great risks, as no one knew if a stranger was a human or a ghost when they first met.
Ximen Chuifeng didn't expect Su Duo to be waiting for him here and to greet him so enthusiastically. As an intelligence officer, he naturally hoped to meet more people, as they were all potential sources of information for him.
"Hello, little girl, my name is Ximen Chuifeng. What's your name?" Ximen Chuifeng also showed a standard smile.
"Ximen Chuifeng? You are Ximen Chuifeng?" Zhuang Sanming was stunned for a moment and asked.
He had heard of Ximen Chuifeng's reputation Outside the Bastion. They said that if you wanted to inquire about news without spending too many spirit stones, you should go to Ximen Chuifeng. His efficiency was no less than that of the guild's intelligence department, but his fees were much lower.
Ximen Chuifeng nodded, not at all surprised: "Yes, you've heard of me?"
"I have," Zhuang Sanming felt a little relieved now. At least Ximen Chuifeng wasn't a bad person, and getting to know him wouldn't be bad.
"Ah? Why haven't I heard of him?"
Su Duo blinked. She seemed to have heard an encrypted conversation; both of them understood it, but she, as an outsider, understood nothing.
Zhuang Sanming said helplessly, "With your memory, even if you had heard of him, you would have forgotten."
Su Duo snorted, "I can remember this time."
Then she said to Ximen Chuifeng, "My name is Su Duo. You still haven't answered how many times you've taken the tin train."
Ximen Chuifeng didn't hide it: "This is the second time."
"Only the second time?" Su Duo blinked and said, "Then you certainly don't know as much about this tin train as we do. We've taken it many times."
"Then can you tell me what's so special about this tin train?" Ximen Chuifeng had already taken out his small notebook, ready to record.
He usually relied on Crimson Flame Ants to gather information, but when it came to the tin train, the information Crimson Flame Ants could gather was very limited.
Because, to this day, no ant beast has ever boarded the tin train, and ordinary ants cannot get on the tin train. Especially when the tin train is undergoing maintenance, they are even less able to approach it.
Just as Su Duo was about to speak, Zhuang Sanming stepped forward and said to Ximen Chuifeng, "Since selling intelligence requires money, then inquiring about intelligence from others also requires payment, doesn't it?"
Ximen Chuifeng didn't expect Zhuang Sanming to be so difficult to fool, but he didn't blush at all after being exposed: "Of course, as long as you can provide me with useful intelligence, I will definitely pay a certain fee."
"You tell him," Zhuang Sanming moved aside, letting Su Duo speak to Ximen Chuifeng.
Su Duo was a bit confused: "What was the question you just asked? Say it again, I got distracted and forgot."
"I only know that the tin train is filled with abundant spiritual energy and can resist beast attacks. I don't know anything else. You've taken the tin train more often than me, do you know of any other functions of this tin train?" Ximen Chuifeng asked.
"Oh, you're asking about that? Then you've asked the right person," Su Duo straightened her back, ready to speak eloquently.
Ximen Chuifeng also assumed a listening posture.
Zhuang Sanming stood silently to the side, his mind wandering.
Su Duo spoke a lot, and Ximen Chuifeng selectively recorded the important parts. Especially after hearing Su Duo mention "Martial Enhancement Pill," Ximen Chuifeng's eyes widened slightly.
"This tin train also sells pills?" he asked.
"Yes, every time I boarded the tin train before, that subtitle would pop up asking if I wanted to buy pills. Besides the Martial Enhancement Pill, there were also Advancement Pills and Healing Pills."
"Before? You mean, now the subtitle doesn't pop up and ask anymore?" Ximen Chuifeng quickly grasped the key point in Su Duo's words.
Su Duo nodded, also expressing her confusion: "Yes, now that you mention it, it is a bit strange. Could it be that all those pills are sold out?"
Ximen Chuifeng tapped his pen on his notebook and suddenly thought that the information he had given Hao Xing and the others stated Tong Changshan's martial artist level was four. Logically, Tong Changshan should not have been able to escape under the encirclement of so many people, yet Tong Changshan not only escaped but also got onto the tin train.
In other words, his strength might be more than level four.
But the intelligence investigated by the Crimson Flame Ants shouldn't be wrong.
Then the only explanation was that Tong Changshan had taken a pill or potion that could quickly increase a martial artist's level, ascending to level five.
Otherwise, he would not have had a chance to get onto the tin train at all.
Thinking of this, Ximen Chuifeng asked again, "What is the effect of the Martial Enhancement Pill sold on the tin train?"
"The Martial Enhancement Pill, oh, it's said that after taking it, one can increase two Qi Vortexes," Su Duo recalled carefully before speaking.
Ximen Chuifeng: !!!
Two Qi Vortexes?
The Ascension Potion sold in the 155 Fortress and the guild required dozens of bottles to achieve such an effect. He had never even heard of a pill that could increase two Qi Vortexes at once.
Even among the first 100 Fortresses, it seemed there was no Martial Enhancement Pill with such good efficacy.
"Are you sure you didn't misremember?" Ximen Chuifeng asked again, wanting to get a definite answer.
Su Duo was about to nod, but Ximen Chuifeng's question made her somewhat unsure. So she pulled her cousin over and said, "Cousin, you have a good memory. Do you still remember the effect of the Martial Enhancement Pill mentioned in that subtitle?"
Zhuang Sanming was naturally reliable: "It does indeed increase two Qi Vortexes. However, we haven't bought it, so we don't know if this effect is real."
Ximen Chuifeng asked, puzzled, "Why haven't you bought it? Is it too popular to buy?"
Hearing this, Zhuang Sanming showed a rare hint of embarrassment on his face. He didn't speak, so Su Duo spoke for him: "No, that's not it. It's mainly because we can't afford it."
Ximen Chuifeng then asked, "How many spirit stones for one pill?"
"One thousand low-grade spirit stones for one Martial Enhancement Pill," Su Duo said.
"Hiss... Although it's worth the price, it is indeed a bit expensive," Ximen Chuifeng said.
