64: Chapter 64 Are Kings and Nobles Born with a Special Kindness?
The return trip to the Falun Kingdom was much faster than the journey there; it only took about a month for you to reach the royal capital of the Falun Kingdom.
"H-Hero! The Hero has returned!" A guard standing watch at the gate saw you, turned, and ran into the city, shouting as he ran, "The Hero has returned! The Devil King has been defeated!"
You walked through the city gate. The area inside was packed with people. They looked at you, their eyes filled with awe, curiosity, and adoration.
Some people knelt down and gazed at you: "Bless the Goddess, bless the Goddess!"
Suddenly, a sound of hoofbeats approached.
Clop, clop, clop.
The crowd automatically parted into two rows. Walking toward you was the Captain of the Knights, followed by the Kingdom's knights.
"Greetings, Hero." The Captain of the Knights jumped off his horse, looked at you, and knelt on one knee.
"Congratulations on your triumphant return, Hero."
The knights behind him also knelt on one knee, looking at you.
Their gazes were burning with intensity, especially when they saw the skull you were holding; the fanaticism in their eyes was undisguised.
You looked at them and smiled slightly, raising the Devil King's skull with one hand.
Immediately, the crowd erupted into cheers as loud as a mountain of waves.
You followed the Captain of the Knights to the royal palace hall.
You walked into the hall and slowly approached the front of the throne.
You had intended to walk straight up to the King, but the King must have learned his lesson from the last time you slapped him across the face.
This time, a row of guards blocked the front of the throne like a city wall.
The King was sitting on the throne, with Lorne standing beside him. Both of them looked down at you from above.
You looked up, and the first thing that met your eyes was the King's large belly.
"The Devil King has been killed by me!" You threw the skull in your hand at the King's feet.
The skull rolled twice on the ground before stopping. The dark green light in its eye sockets had completely extinguished, leaving only two empty black holes.
It stopped right beside the King's boots.
The hall fell into silence.
The eyes of the nobles and ministers were all fixed on the skull.
"Lord Lorne!" The King glanced at Lorne beside him and spoke.
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
Having received the order, Lorne picked up the skull.
He held it in his hands as if it were the most precious treasure in the world. A book as large as a person flew to his side.
Lorne tapped the ground with his magic wand, and the pages of the large book instantly flipped open rapidly, projecting a blue light from within.
Lorne held the skull in his hand toward the blue light.
In the hall, you stood without speaking, expressionlessly watching Lorne.
It seemed that Lorne was verifying whether the skull you brought back was truly the Devil King's.
The others dared not speak; they all held their breath and watched Lorne with rapt attention.
Only the rustling sound of the magic book's pages turning remained in the hall.
After a long while, the sound of turning pages finally stopped.
Two lines of tears streamed from the corners of Lorne's eyes.
He looked at the King, knelt on one knee, and held up the skull: "Reporting to Your Majesty, this is truly the Devil King's skull."
"Good, good!" The King slowly walked in front of Lorne and took the skull from his hands.
The King held the Devil King's skull above his head: "Bless the Goddess, long live Falun!"
The nobles and ministers below shouted: "Long live the King!"
The King's cheers echoed in the hall. The nobles echoed in unison, the sound waves rising higher and higher.
You, however, watched the King expressionlessly.
It is unknown how much time passed before the King waved his hand, and the shouting stopped. He looked at you: "Hero! What reward do you want? Fiefdom? Title? Beauties? Just ask!"
His face, full of wrinkles, was piled with smiles, but to you, it looked somewhat disgusting.
You took a deep breath, trying to make your tone slightly less aggressive: "Has Your Majesty forgotten what you promised me?"
"Hahaha." The King's wrinkled face suddenly burst into laughter: "Naturally not, but Hero, think about it. Here, I can give you everything you want. Why are you so obsessed with going back?"
You didn't speak, just looked at him.
After a pause, the King continued: "Oh, could it be that you still have a wife in that world?"
"It doesn't matter." The King clapped his hands.
A row of young maidens walked out from both sides of the hall, wearing gauze as thin as cicada wings. They stood before you and curtsied in unison, revealing large expanses of fair necks and collarbones.
"Speak, Hero. Whichever one you like, you can take her away," the King looked at you and smiled: "If you like them all, you can take them all."
One maiden looked at you with affection, wanting to step forward to take your arm.
"Slap!"
You struck the maiden hard across the face.
The maiden knelt on the ground, covering her face as she looked at you. The other maidens also lowered their heads one after another.
"Hero! What is the meaning of this?" The King put away his smile, sat back on the throne, and looked at you.
You took a step forward.
The guards nearby raised their spears to prevent you from harming the King.
"Old man, have you forgotten what you told me!" You looked at the King and said.
The King looked at you and smiled again: "Naturally not."
You took a deep breath, just about to speak.
But Lorne, standing beside the King, stepped forward and said first: "Your Majesty, why bother talking to this commoner?"
Lorne looked down at you from above: "Hero, to put it nicely, you are a Hero. To put it bluntly, you are nothing but a commoner."
"To tell you the truth, there is no such thing as a teleportation Formation. However, given your merit in defeating the Devil King, His Majesty rewarded you. I hope you, a commoner, will not be ungrateful!"
You looked at Lorne, surprisingly calm: "So you don't have a Formation to send me back, right?"
"And so what!" Lorne looked at you with a sense of superiority: "Commoner!"
"Fine, I understand." You touched the Goddess Magic Circle on your neck and walked out of the hall.
"Your Majesty, are you just going to let this commoner leave like that?" Lorne looked at the King and said.
"Forget it. He is, after all, just a commoner. His magic power is also constrained by the Goddess Magic Circle," the King watched your departing back and shook his head.
"Indeed, just a commoner." Lorne looked at the King and said: "With the constraints of the Goddess Magic Circle, he won't be able to stir up any trouble."
The sun rose and set; ten days passed.
Without the threat of the Demon Kings Army, the kingdom was peaceful. The King felt his appetite had improved quite a bit; he used to only be able to eat ten flatbreads, but now he could eat eleven.
During the morning court session, the King sat on the throne, looking with some anger at the noble kneeling on the floor.
"I remember you are Baron Welt. Why are you not staying properly in your fiefdom, and instead fled to the royal capital?" The King looked at him and questioned.
Welt's head was buried very low: "Y-Your Majesty, those commoners have rebelled!"
"Rebelled?" The King laughed: "Can a bunch of commoners really turn the world upside down?"
"Your Majesty, this time it's different!" Welt raised his head, his face pale, "They even came up with a... treasonous slogan. Your subject believes this is absolutely not an ordinary rebellion. If we are not careful, the entire Falun Kingdom could be destroyed!"
"Ridiculous." The King sneered and leaned back in his chair, "Commoners are always commoners. What kind of slogan could possibly destroy my kingdom? Let's hear it."
Welt swallowed his saliva, his lips trembled twice, and he finally spoke.
"What they are shouting isβ"
"Are kings and nobles born with superior blood?"
