5: V for Vendetta! The Avengers!

As night fell, Moe Water returned to his detached apartment in a certain neighborhood.

He was a bit tired, half-reclining on the sofa, about to pour himself a glass of red wine to relax.

Suddenly, a friendly voice came from beside him.

“Councilman Water, you must be very tired.”

Moe Water was startled, turned his head, and saw a very strange person sitting on the other side of the sofa, having appeared there at some unknown time.

This person wore a black robe, as if hidden in the darkness.

He was clearly wearing a wig, and his face was covered by a bizarre mask, like those from V for Vendetta, his voice seemingly deepened by the mask.

“You, who are you—”

Moe Water was greatly alarmed, about to react.

However, the other party calmly stated:

“Mr. Water, there’s no need to panic, and no need to call your bodyguards downstairs… I just have something I’d like to discuss with you.”

The reason Moe Water didn’t call for his bodyguards wasn’t because of these reassuring words from the other party.

It was because of a gun the other party had deliberately placed on the coffee table.

Judging by the model, it appeared to be a police gun.

Although Australia’s residents can legally own firearms after meeting certain conditions, it doesn’t mean you can use a model identical to a police gun.

From this, it was clear that the Masked Man was absolutely not ordinary, which made Moe Water suppress his temper and ask:

“Who exactly are you, and what do you want?”

The other party didn’t answer, but instead asked: “Mr. Moe Water, who are you yourself, and what is the meaning of your existence?”

Moe Water frowned: “I don’t understand what you mean.”

The Masked Man: “Moe, Water, both your first name and last name, seem to have come from the colonizers, don’t they?”

“And you, Mr. Moe Water, as a descendant of Indigenous people, haven’t even taken a name that aligns with your own ethnic identity… Don’t you find that very sad?”

Colonizers, Indigenous people… As soon as these terms appeared, Moe Water immediately became fully alert.

“You’re not with the government!”

The government would never use terms like 'colonizers' which could easily provoke conflict.

The Masked Man chuckled: “I never said I was sent by the government. Regarding the protests, you’ve already reached a so-called reconciliation with the government, haven’t you?”

Moe Water himself was not only an Indigenous person but also the organizer for the Indigenous people's side in the recent street protests. He was also a city councilor, and it was he who personally reached the reconciliation with the government.

But was the other party’s tone meant to mock him?

Moe Water couldn't ascertain the other party's intention, so he could only say: “I believe I have a clear conscience; I have achieved the best possible outcome for my ethnic group—”

The Masked Man rudely interrupted him, passionately waving his arms.

“Mr. Moe Water, don’t try to play dumb with me. I came to see you to test your true intentions.”

“You once stated that the white people in Australia are descendants of criminals, you once accused the colonizers of owing a blood debt to the Indigenous people, you once said that Australia originally belonged to the Indigenous people…”

“I can’t forget how you once, during a city council meeting, pointed at a white councilor’s nose and cursed him as a white pig…”

“But now, Mr. Moe Water, how did you become like this, easily bowing your head to the colonizers?”

Moe Water gave a bitter smile.

He had indeed said those words, and had once been full of fervor, even proclaiming that white people should be driven out of Australia.

But reality, after all, does not shift with human will.

The Masked Man softened his tone and continued: “Of course, Mr. Moe Water.”

“We also know that you have real-world difficulties.”

“Not to mention a position like the Prime Minister of Australia, you can’t even secure a position like the mayor of Darwin City. None of your several competitors in this election have weaker foundations than you.”

“But if you agree to cooperate with us, we can help you defeat all your opponents in the election.”

“Please consider it carefully.”

The Masked Man got up and left.

Moe Water pondered for a long time on the sofa, and finally picked up the phone.

“Hello, is this the City Public Security Bureau? I am City Councilman Moe Water, and I want to report a crime.”

“Just now, an unidentified person broke into my home and even pulled out a gun to threaten me. I suspect he’s a terrorist…”

Moe Water didn't know that his words had been intercepted by a man in a car not far from his villa.

And this man then reported everything that happened there, including the conversation, to someone.

Fang Le, lying alone on a hotel bed, sneered.

The Masked Man was not him, but one of his synthetic subordinates he had sent out.

“Since this Moe Water is so ungrateful.”

“Then don’t blame me for being impolite—”

Fang Le had originally hoped to cause trouble through more peaceful means.

Now, it seemed that was completely wishful thinking.
