172: Chapter 172 Familiarizing Yourself with the Environment

In the afternoon, accompanied by a staff member from the school office, Chen Youhua arrived at the Z City International Convention Center, where the Navier-Stokes Equation report meeting was set to be held.

Originally, the Navier-Stokes Equation report meeting was supposed to be held in the school's lecture hall, but the school's facilities were insufficient to accommodate so many people, and the relevant supporting facilities were difficult to keep up.

Fortunately, Dean Tang had suggested from the beginning that it be held in this newly built international convention center.

This modern building was magnificent, its massive glass curtain walls shimmering in the sunlight.

As soon as he walked through the main entrance, a middle-aged man dressed in a proper suit, with a work badge pinned to his chest and appearing to be the convention center manager, immediately stepped forward to greet him with a warm yet respectful smile.

"Professor Chen! Welcome, welcome! I am the operations manager of the convention center, my surname is Zhang.

Dean Tang has already given special instructions that you would be coming today to familiarize yourself with the venue and equipment. Please, this way; everything is prepared for you."

Manager Zhang's attitude was almost overly attentive; he walked slightly to the side to lead the way, maintaining a perfect distance.

The convention center staff they encountered along the way, whether they were cleaning ladies or technicians, would stop and cast curious and respectful glances when they saw the group, whispering greetings like "Hello, Professor Chen" or "Hello, Manager Zhang."

They walked through a spacious corridor covered with soft carpet and arrived at the main venue, the Huaxia Hall.

The heavy soundproof doors were pushed open, and a magnificent venue appeared before Chen Youhua's eyes.

The venue was enormous with an astonishing ceiling height.

Below the stage were dense, tiered rows of seats, currently empty, making the space feel even more vast and solemn.

A giant theme poster for the report meeting was already hanging on the background board of the massive podium, printed with the standard form of the Navier-Stokes Equation, the title of Chen Youhua's paper, and the Z University emblem.

In the center of the podium stood a wooden lectern with a modern design and smooth lines.

Chen Youhua stood at the entrance, gazing at this massive space capable of holding thousands of people, feeling dazed for a moment.

He could even imagine the scene on the day of the report meeting, with the place packed and all eyes focused on the lectern.

His heart involuntarily beat a little faster, and he immediately felt a slight sense of pressure.

"Professor Chen, please go up on stage and get a feel for it." Manager Zhang's voice pulled him back to reality.

Chen Youhua took a deep breath, walked up the side steps to the podium, and headed toward the central lectern.

When he stood still behind the lectern, his field of vision suddenly opened up, and the entire layout of the venue came into view; the feeling of being about to become the center of attention grew even stronger.

"We have prepared the latest wireless lavalier microphone for you; it has the best sound pickup and won't interfere with your gestures."

A young sound engineer hurried onto the stage and carefully helped Chen Youhua put on the microphone, his movements gentle and professional.

"Okay, thank you." Chen Youhua slightly adjusted the position of the microphone.

Just then, several high-power stage lights overhead clicked on simultaneously, and intense light instantly focused on him, enveloping him in a bright and even somewhat scorching halo.

The sudden strong light made Chen Youhua instinctively squint his eyes, raising one hand to shield his brow, while making a downward pressing gesture with the other hand toward the lighting control room.

"Lighting technician, could you please dim it a little? It's a bit glaring."

His voice clearly echoed throughout the empty venue through the newly attached microphone.

The lighting technician in the control room responded immediately. "Okay, Professor Chen, adjusting right away!"

The lighting soon became soft and moderate, ensuring brightness without being dazzling.

Only then did Chen Youhua lower his hand and begin to officially test the equipment.

He tested the microphone volume and cleared his throat. "Ahem, hello, hello, testing, one, two, three. Can the back row hear clearly?"

Manager Zhang immediately jogged to the back row of the venue, listened carefully, and responded loudly. "Yes, it can be heard, very clearly, Professor Chen!"

Next, Chen Youhua tested the laser pointer and the slide clicker.

He pressed the laser pointer against the blank projection screen; the red dot was stable and clear.

He also tested the sensitivity of the slide clicker; advancing and going back were both very smooth.

"The slide clicker is a bit too sensitive; it skips pages with the slightest touch. Can you adjust the damping?"

Chen Youhua made a very specific request.

The technician immediately went on stage, took the slide clicker, and made fine adjustments.

"Professor Chen, please try this level of resistance now."

Chen Youhua tried it a few more times and nodded: "Mm, this resistance is just right."

Still not fully at ease, he inserted the USB drive containing his PPT, which he had brought himself, into the computer and personally played a few slides with complex formulas. He carefully checked whether the display effect on the large screen was clear, if the color contrast was sufficient, and especially whether those tiny subscripts and symbols could be seen clearly.

"The second sigma symbol on the seventh line, the edges are a bit blurry. Can you fine-tune the projector focus?" He said, pointing at the large screen.

"No problem!" The technician operated immediately until the image reached optimal clarity.

Throughout the entire testing process, Chen Youhua behaved as meticulously as if he were calibrating a precision experimental instrument.

The surrounding staff also cooperated fully without the slightest slack, gaining a more intuitive understanding of the rigor of this young, top-tier scientist.

As the test neared its end, when Chen Youhua confirmed that all equipment had reached the optimal state he required and was preparing to leave, the young female staff member who had been accompanying them all along, with a mix of excitement and anticipation on her face, carefully approached him holding an exquisite notebook and a pen.

"Professor Chen, I am very sorry to disturb you... I... I am your fan, and I admire you very much! Could... could you please sign your name for me? Just on this notebook will do!"

Her words seemed to trigger a switch; the other staff members who had been standing by, including Manager Zhang, also smiled somewhat sheepishly and took out notebooks or convention center commemorative booklets they had long prepared.

"Professor Chen, please sign one for me too!"

"Sign one for me too; my son admires you very much and says he wants to take you as his role model!"

Chen Youhua looked at the scene before him and was stunned for a moment.

So they were all being so professional and serious at the beginning; good grief, a whole group of people were waiting here for him.

"Thank you... thank you for your support."

Chen Youhua said with some helplessness, then earnestly signed his name on every notebook that was handed to him.

His handwriting was like the person himself: clear and powerful.

After leaving the convention center and sitting in the car, Chen Youhua finally breathed a slight sigh of relief.

He checked the time; it wasn't far from the meal time he had agreed upon with Li Wei and Wang Zhe, so he told the driver to drive directly to the private kitchen restaurant at the back gate of the school.
