157: Chapter 157 The Abyss Opens
Amidst the deafening roar, the black earth in the center of the basin suddenly ripped open into a huge fissure over ten meters wide.
Billowing dark purple deathly qi surged wildly like a breached flood from the depths of the pitch-black underground, dyeing large patches of the white thick fog above into an eerie purple.
The surrounding rocks and mountains could not withstand this terrifying underground impact, and began to collapse on a large scale.
Many young disciples from various sects lost their footing, screaming as they retreated in disarray.
Lin Ye shifted his feet slightly, stepping on the edge of a protruding black boulder, his figure as steady as Mount Tai.
"Bao'er! Come over to Ah-ma's side quickly! There are filthy things about to come out from down below!"
The old woman of the Wangu Ancient Tribe shrieked, urging the five-meter-long golden centipede, trying to pull Ayugu forcefully back into her protective circle.
"Aiya, Ah-ma, stop pulling me. I am extremely safe following Boss!"
Ayugu grabbed tightly onto the hem of Lin Ye's tactical assault jacket, pressing her body extremely close.
Seeing this, the old woman glared fiercely at Lin Ye.
The four iron-tower-like Miao strongmen behind her even rubbed their palms and fists with unfriendly gazes, evidently extremely dissatisfied with Lin Ye, a Han person who had kidnapped their precious saintess.
But upon seeing the cold gaze cast over by Leng Yue from behind Lin Ye, the thick black hairs on the four men's bodies instantly stood on end, and they forcefully stopped their footsteps in extreme terror.
"Boom—"
A deep, loud noise came from the depths of the abyss.
Amidst that massive deathly qi, the true gates of the underground palace seemed to have opened at the very bottom.
The dark purple mist carved a passage through the thick fog, leading straight to the underground.
Deputy Director Gao Guoliang of The Ninth Bureau did not hesitate at all, waving his palm down:
"First Squad, bring the searchlighting equipment and spiritual energy shields, and go down the shaft immediately!"
"Disciples of Mount Longhu, obey orders! Follow me down into the abyss to wipe out the underground evil spirits!" On the other side, a purple-robed Taoist priest shouted loudly.
For a moment, all factions showed off their respective divine powers.
Some relied on flying ropes, while others directly executed lightweight kung fu, successively skimming toward the pitch-black abyss that swallowed everything, afraid that arriving late would mean others seizing the initiative.
Yet Lin Ye was unhurried.
He held Leng Yue's icy small hand, standing at the edge of the cliff to watch the commotion, a playful smile hanging on the corners of his mouth.
"Brother-in-law, they seem very anxious to go die."
Frost Star bit and crushed the last piece of gloomy wood bone marrow paste in her mouth, her heterochromatic pupils flashing with a mocking light.
"Let them go open the path." Lin Ye smiled faintly.
Just as the words fell,
deep within the pitch-black abyss, a roar unlike that of a living creature suddenly came forth.
A mutated underground giant lizard, the size of a truck and covered all over with black scale armor, crawled frantically up along the steep rock wall.
This monster opened its bloody maw filled with venom glands, its long tongue coiling out to bite two young disciples of Mount Longhu directly in half at the waist.
Fresh blood instantly splashed across the black rock wall.
"Evil creature!"
Several elders of Mount Longhu flew into a rage, their peach wood swords and exploding flame talismans blasting out simultaneously.
But the monster's scale armor was as hard as refined steel, and the talisman fire and sword light striking it only splattered a series of sparks, completely unable to injure its skin and flesh by even a fraction.
Panic instantly erupted among the crowd.
"This big lizard, the Yin malevolent qi smell inside its inner core smells like it's very chewy."
Frost Star's eyes instantly lit up, crystal-clear saliva hanging at the corners of her mouth.
Without even waiting for Lin Ye's order, her petite body directly stepped upon the empty void.
"Whoosh!"
The pink petite figure instantly pierced through the dark purple mist, appearing right above the head of that mutated giant lizard.
Her small hand gripped that dark blue archaic bone knife tightly, aiming at the lizard's iron-hard cranium and stabbing down fiercely.
"Puchi!"
Nether Corpse Qi flickered violently at her fingertips, and the black scale armor that even talisman fire couldn't pierce was as fragile as tofu in front of the bone knife.
The bone knife sank in all the way to the hilt.
The extremely cold Nine Nether Corpse Qi erupted in an instant, directly freezing the lizard's massive body into a crystal-clear ice sculpture.
Frost Star's small hand twisted, and she forcibly scooped out a faintly glowing black inner core from the lizard's cranial cavity.
She casually stuffed it into her mouth, crunching it twice like chewing glass marbles, biting it apart and swallowing it down.
"The taste is average, a bit teeth-chilling, but it barely fills a gap between the teeth."
The little loli patted her hands in disdain, her little mouth puckering.
The mutated giant lizard's massive ice-sculpted corpse crashed back down into the bottomless abyss with a loud boom.
This scene
left the Wangu Ancient Tribe's eldest uncle and second uncle—who originally still wanted to "protect the saintess"—dumbfounded, their foreheads covered in cold sweat.
Their Miao village prided itself on controlling a hundred poisons, and they could be considered to have witnessed quite a few ferocious Gu beasts.
But they had never seen such a brutal "little girl" who directly treated mutated underground venom beasts as pre-meal snacks to gnaw on.
"We are leaving too."
Lin Ye unhurriedly put away his luopan.
"This cliff is very deep. Brother Changfeng, do you need me to give you an advanced Wind-Control Talisman at an internal preferential price of fifty million?"
Lin Ye turned his head to glance at Young Master Lu Changfeng, who was busy pulling the tactical fall-prevention rope, and asked with a smile.
Young Master Lu Changfeng's cheeks twitched violently.
Fifty million for a single talisman?
This price was simply robbery!
"N-no need, Master Lin. I have my own flying rope, given by my elders, and the quality is quite good."
Young Master Lu Changfeng waved his hands repeatedly, terrified of being hollowed out of the Lu family's treasury again by this black-hearted boss.
Lin Ye sighed with some regret and withdrew his gaze.
"Leng Yue."
"Husband."
Leng Yue stepped forward, her expression composed, as if she had been waiting for this moment all along.
She extended her jade arms that surpassed frost and snow, gentle yet carrying a supreme power, directly wrapping them around Lin Ye's entire body into her embrace.
A standard princess carry.
The tall Leng Yue carried Lin Ye, strode forward with her long legs in a trench coat, and walked with big steps to the edge of the cliff.
"Wait! Do you Han experts play this extravagantly in your daily lives?"
Ayugu's clansmen behind watched with their eyeballs nearly popping out.
"Husband, hold me tight."
Leng Yue completely ignored the bizarre gazes around them, whispering softly in Lin Ye's ear.
The next second, she hugged Lin Ye and leaped directly down from the edge of the hundred-meter-high cliff.
The wild wind whistled by their ears.
The fabric of the dark red silk nightgown on the inner side of Leng Yue's trench coat flickered in and out of sight, carrying the ultimate warmth, fragrance, and iciness as she protected Lin Ye tightly in her embrace, blocking all the nether winds for him.
Her peerlessly powerful stalwart body of a drought demon forcefully scraped against the steep rock wall, stripping away most of the downward gravitational force.
When her feet landed steadily, Lin Ye didn't even have a single withered leaf or speck of dust adhering to him.
"Husband, we have arrived."
Leng Yue blew an icy puff of air into his ear before reluctantly setting him down.
Lin Ye patted the wrinkles on his tactical jacket.
He raised his eyes to look around.
This was already the huge underground rift valley at the bottom of the abyss.
Embedded on the surrounding stone walls were a kind of strange mineral that could emit a faint green light, illuminating this dead silence of a space into a glowing green hue.
The air was filled with a strong stench of copper patina and stagnant water.
Not far away,
Deputy Director Gao Guoliang and the special service agents of The Ninth Bureau were frantically treating the wounded.
The previous attack and high-altitude fall had caused them heavy losses, with many agents having their leg bones broken.
The people from the orthodox Taoist sects and the Yinshan Sect had also landed one after another, everyone's expression extremely ugly, and the atmosphere depressed to the extreme.
But right in the dead center of the underground cavern,
an ancient giant gate ten meters tall and built entirely of bronze was blocking everyone's way dead in their tracks.
Carved on the gate were the fierce Taotie patterns unique to the Dayu Dynasty.
At the intersecting position of the two doors, there were two huge grooves.
And right in front of the gate,
the over one hundred Black Raincoat Monsters of the Yellow Springs Market were standing quietly on both sides of the altar.
That ancient bronze coffin wrapped with eight thick black chains had already been placed on the altar directly in front of the gate.
"The Yellow Springs opens, a hundred ghosts walk. To open this gate, the purest sacrifice is required."
A hunched Black Raincoat Monster standing beside the ancient bronze coffin suddenly spoke.
Its voice was like rusty iron pieces scraping against the bottom of a wok, echoing in the cavern with an indescribable iciness.
"For instance, the vital blood of a high official of The Ninth Bureau, or... the blood of a Pure Yang Dao Body."
Just as the words fell,
the over one hundred Black Raincoat Monsters simultaneously waved the rusty chains in their hands, stirring up a harsh sound.
The cold and chilling resentment in the air surged drastically once again.
