110: Five days to solve the case

Liu Dong’s older brother, Da Chun, didn’t know much about him, or rather, he didn’t know much about his life at school.

His younger brother was the pride of the whole family and even the whole village, having been admitted to Industrial University, and he was also very diligent, earning scholarships every year for four years to cover his tuition.

Liu Dong himself had no particular hobbies, nor had he heard of him having a girlfriend or anything; essentially, he was still a rural child, simple and honest, and there was no talk of him having grudges or enmities with anyone.

After Old Zhou settled Da Chun, he returned to the Special Task Force.

“Comrades, based on the current situation, we haven’t yet gathered any useful intelligence, so everyone needs to dig deeper,” Guan Hongyuan said.

He was a bit worried; the deceased’s family members had arrived, and if there was no progress on the case, their families would surely cause a scene, and then the pressure on his side would be immense.

Before he could finish his thoughts, the conference room door was pushed open, and a man in a white shirt walked straight in.

“Director Su, why are you here?” Guan Hongyuan immediately stood up upon seeing the newcomer.

Su Rongjun was the deputy director of the police department, in charge of the criminal investigation line. Director Su often called to inquire about the case’s progress, but his sudden rush in this time made them wonder what had happened.

Su Rongjun waved his hand, signaling everyone to sit down. He stood in the middle, in Guan Hongyuan’s previous spot, and scanned the room.

He said earnestly, “Comrades, everyone has worked very hard during this period, putting in extra hours, and our bureau leaders have taken notice. To be honest, with two skeletons and no clues, it is indeed not easy, and we understand that.”

“However, our understanding does not mean the people can understand, nor does it mean the families can understand. Just now, Huang Wen’s parents approached the Provincial Level leaders, and now the Provincial Level leaders have put pressure on us, demanding that we solve the case within a time limit. Time is very tight, Comrades.”

As soon as Su Rongjun finished speaking, Guan Hongyuan inwardly cursed, dreading such family members.

They weren’t not trying; the problem was that there really were no clues right now. Once Huang Wen’s parents spoke to the Provincial Level leaders, it would surely turn into them being inactive, which truly would be impossible to clear their names.

So, Guan Hongyuan quickly stood up, about to explain.

However, Su Rongjun above raised a hand, stopping him, “You don’t need to speak.”

“We see everyone’s efforts and know the difficulties. But, as people’s police, since the public has made demands, we must find ways to resolve them. After deliberation by the bureau leaders, it has been decided that the Yue Province University of Technology skeleton case must be solved within five days.”

As soon as Su Rongjun’s voice fell, a gasp erupted in the meeting room.

“Five days, how is that possible?”

“Exactly, there isn’t even a suspect right now.”

“The motive can’t be found either.”

“Nothing has even started, we can’t force it.”

Everyone began to complain, and Guan Hongyuan’s face grew increasingly grim, his expression dark and full of emotion.

Su Rongjun stood authoritatively, and when the discussions had mostly died down, he said, “I will stay and fight alongside everyone. As long as there are any needs, the bureau will fully support you. As for the five-day deadline, that is an order and cannot be changed.”

“Guan Hongyuan,” Su Rongjun called out loudly.

“Here!” Upon hearing his leader call his name, Guan Hongyuan instinctively stood up.

“Can you do it?” Su Rongjun asked loudly.

Guan Hongyuan’s mouth twitched. Damn it, in a setting with so many people, what could he say? If he dared to say he couldn’t do it, his captain’s title would be stripped away.

“Yes! Please rest assured, leader,” Guan Hongyuan responded loudly.

Su Rongjun smiled and nodded, “Good, I will participate in the case analysis meetings during this period. You all continue.”

With that, Su Rongjun directly found a seat at the back, pulled up a chair, and sat down, giving off a distinct feeling of supervision.

The old man sat down at the back, waved his hand, indicating for Guan Hongyuan to continue.

Guan Hongyuan felt such bitterness in his heart; he could only stand up helplessly, “Comrades, let’s continue. Xiao Xu, what progress has there been with contacting the classmates?”

Xiao Xu stood up and looked at Director Su sitting in the back.

Su Rongjun took a sip of tea and said, “You don’t need to mind me; just pretend I’m not here.”

Xiao Xu gave a silly smile, walked to the front, and began to report.

“We contacted the roommates of Huang Wen and Liu Dong. Huang Wen’s classmates said that Huang Wen was very sunny and outgoing, usually just attending classes, playing basketball, dating, and so on, with nothing particularly special.”

“As for his girlfriends, we also contacted them. We only managed to reach his last girlfriend, who broke up with Huang Wen right after graduation and had no contact with him since.”

It was another investigation with no clues. Guan Hongyuan sighed, and everyone else’s faces also darkened.

Xiao Xu continued, “As for Liu Dong, just as his older brother said, he was a child who just wanted to study hard, find a good job after graduation, and help his family. So, throughout his four years of university, his focus was on studying and working part-time. However, there was one peculiar thing.”

“One of his roommates mentioned it. Apparently, before he graduated, he, who was originally very good-tempered, became emotionally unstable. Sometimes he would space out, and other times he would suddenly become furious.”

“Hey, according to the private discussions among his classmates, he might have been in a relationship. But they also didn’t understand why he would start dating so close to graduation; that’s not common in university. Usually, people are busy breaking up around graduation.”

“That’s basically all the information about the two of them.”

Xiao Xu closed his notebook, about to sit down.

“Wait!” A voice rang out.

Everyone looked, and it was Ye Lin who had spoken. Suddenly, a glimmer of hope sparked in their hearts. Had Ye Lin figured something out?

Ye Lin quickly wrote two words on his notebook: “Intersection.”

“Did the classmates of the two people say whether they knew each other, that is, did Huang Wen and Liu Dong know each other?” Ye Lin asked.

“Oh, we asked about that too. Huang Wen’s classmates had no idea who Liu Dong was. However, a few of Liu Dong’s classmates did know Huang Wen, but only because Huang Wen played basketball, so it had nothing to do with Liu Dong. Also, they weren’t in the same dorm building, so there was basically no intersection,” Xiao Xu replied.

Everyone once again turned their gaze to Ye Lin. Su Rongjun scrutinized him from the back. He knew this young man; he was reportedly brought in by Young Master Fang, but it was a temporary Special Task Force, not involving anything else, so the bureau leaders had agreed.

Guan Hongyuan said this person had quite some ability, and today was a good chance to see it for himself.

Ye Lin stared intently at the two words “Intersection” on his notebook, constantly replaying the information about the two individuals in his mind.

One was a rich, handsome, sunny, and outgoing person, while the other was plain, introverted, and honest. They were from different departments, different buildings, and had no common hobbies. So, besides being from the same school, what else could be their intersection?
