183: One person carried it

Chen Bin’s interrogation could be described as both smooth and not smooth.

Because this guy took the fall for all the crimes.

Initially, he refused to say anything, but after meeting his lawyer, he seemed to transform completely, spilling all the details like an overturned bean jar. However, he took all the blame himself, claiming no one else instigated him.

According to Chen Bin, three years ago when Zheng Xiao came to report the case, he was infatuated with her beauty. Under the pretense of helping her investigate the case, he lured her to a house in Blue Garden Community, intending to assault her, but accidentally killed Zheng Xiao.

To cover up the fact that he had committed murder, he bought the house and then purchased cement to seal Zheng Xiao's body inside.

“Chen Bin, you’re full of it. You’ve been a police officer for so long, how could you not know the importance of disposing of a body? Would you leave such fatal evidence in your own home?”

“Tell me, was someone threatening you to do this?”

Ye Lin was exasperated by Chen Bin’s earlier nonsense, but without other evidence for now, he couldn’t definitively say it was false.

However, no one would kill someone and then keep the body in their own home, especially a police officer. Didn’t he have that basic common sense?

The only reasonable explanation was that this was a leverage Chen Bin left in someone else’s hands. As long as he betrayed the people above him, they could directly report Chen Bin and ensure he had no place to be buried.

Chen Bin already knew he had no way out and was indifferent to Ye Lin’s reprimand.

“What? You, a young man who’s only been a police officer for a year, want to lecture me?”

“Don’t think you’re so great just because you’ve solved a few cases. I’ve eaten more salt than you’ve eaten rice. Do I need you to teach me how to hide a body?” Chen Bin said, looking at Ye Lin with disdain.

Ye Lin slammed the table, “Watch your attitude.”

“You don’t want me to teach you, huh? Then explain, why didn’t you dispose of the body, but instead chose to seal it in cement and keep it in your own home?”

Chen Bin raised his head, nostrils flared, and said dismissively, “Ask Team Leader Yu, is dismembering a body easier to discover, or sealing it up? This is all experience.”

Yu Haifeng said in a deep voice, “Chen Bin, explain your situation, don’t talk about other things.”

Although Chen Bin’s attitude was poor, it made Ye Lin ponder.

It seemed to make some sense; historically, committing murder was not difficult, but disposing of the body was the hardest part.

No matter how many pieces a body was cut into, it would still involve dumping the corpse. Human bodies have a unique smell, and they are large enough that it’s very difficult to truly make them disappear without a trace.

Generally, after a criminal dumps a body, even if it’s on a mountain, it’s very easily discovered.

Perhaps Chen Bin’s method of sealing it in cement was not as easy to find.

If Ye Lin hadn’t found a fingernail in the wardrobe, he probably wouldn’t have been so convinced there were clues in Chen Bin’s house.

So, strictly speaking, Chen Bin was not wrong.

Yu Haifeng and Ye Lin had no good way to deal with this old fox. Chen Bin was well aware of all their interrogation tactics, so after an entire night of questioning, they had no breakthroughs.

Chen Bin stubbornly insisted he acted out of lust.

As for Huo Chunli’s suicide by jumping off a building, that case occurred during Chen Bin’s tenure as deputy director. He only admitted that the situation was complicated at the time, and since no evidence was found at the scene, it was ruled a suicide.

At most, it would be considered dereliction of duty, not even a crime.

By the time Ye Lin and the others finished the interrogation, it was already 9 AM. Without new evidence, they could only proceed as planned for now.

Coming out of the interrogation room, Ye Lin called Meng Qiu.

“I’ve caught the murderer of Zheng Xiao; it’s Chen Bin.”

Hearing this news, Meng Qiu cried excitedly on the phone. It had been three years, and the murderer of her good friend was finally apprehended.

“I also have to thank you for the clues you provided; otherwise, we wouldn’t have caught him so quickly,” Ye Lin expressed his gratitude again.

“What about the people who assaulted Zheng Xiao? Have the high-ranking officials been caught?” Meng Qiu asked once her emotions had calmed down.

Ye Lin sighed, “No, he doesn’t admit that anyone else instigated him. But don’t worry, we are still gathering evidence. If there are clues, I will definitely bring them to justice, rest assured.”

“Okay, Officer Ye.”

“Thank you,” Meng Qiu said softly.

“Go to your class. I’ll arrange what I promised you later. I’m going to get some sleep,” Ye Lin said, about to hang up.

“Hey, Qiang Teng Group still has a performance tonight,” Meng Qiu quickly said.

However, the phone on the other end was already beeping. Meng Qiu shook her head. Although the mastermind hadn’t been caught, the person who killed her friend was apprehended, which made Meng Qiu feel much better.

She was wondering whether to attend tonight’s performance.

Although Ye Lin had given her over a hundred thousand yuan, Meng Qiu, accustomed to poverty, was still a bit reluctant to give up the performance fee for the evening.

Never mind, I’ll participate. The people behind this shouldn’t be so arrogant, right? Tonight should just be a regular performance.

After hanging up the phone, Ye Lin’s mind was a bit muddled. It seemed Meng Qiu had said something just now, but he was too tired and really didn’t want to think anymore, so he went straight back to the dorm to sleep.

When he woke up, it was already past 5 PM. Ye Lin headed straight for the Criminal Police Team. Yu Haifeng and the others were already up and working.

“Young people are great, they can eat and sleep well, haha,” Old Zhao teased, looking at Ye Lin’s sleep-creased face.

“Hmph, unlike you old farts, so weak,” Ye Lin retorted.

“Team Leader Yu, are there any new updates from forensics?” Ye Lin asked. What he was most concerned about now was whether there was anything else at the scene besides what Chen Bin left behind.

“Not yet. The forensics colleagues have basically finished processing. We found Chen Bin’s hair in the cement and Chen Bin’s body tissue in Zheng Xiao’s fingernails, but besides Chen Bin’s, there were no traces of anyone else.”

“So, the Blue Garden Community scene might truly not have a third person,” Yu Haifeng briefly explained.

Ye Lin angrily pounded the table. He had put in so much effort, only to catch a Chen Bin, a mere small fry, far from his expectations.

But there was something else that puzzled him: why hadn’t the system given him a reward? After all, Chen Bin was also a murderer.

Before, as long as he caught someone, the system was very generous and would immediately give a reward. Now, there was no reaction at all.

He opened the system and checked it twice; it was still normal, with all skills and items present.

“Big brother, give me a reward!” Ye Lin shouted a few times in the system.

But the system didn’t react at all.

Damn it, could it be a bug?

“Lin Zi, you come with me to report the current situation to Director Gao.” Before Ye Lin could figure out the system issue, Yu Haifeng pulled him along to report.
