180: Where is the evidence?

The old woman was precisely the neighbor living opposite Chen Bin. Seeing the police truly enter their building, she was also very confused, "This... whose house are they going to? Our building is full of old people."

"You know people, you know their faces, but you don't know their hearts. Is it Old Man Yang? I see him leaving early and coming back late every day."

"He goes fishing, and last time he even gave me two fish. Don't speak nonsense if you don't know," Aunt Zhang said, displeased.

"Sixth floor, that's your floor, Aunt Zhang. It couldn't be your house, could it?"

"Get lost! It's just me and my old man at home. What could happen when we just go out to buy groceries?" Aunt Zhang retorted.

Though she wasn't outwardly anxious, the old woman's steps were already quickening. She walked over in a few strides and asked the police officers standing downstairs, "Comrade, I live on the 6th floor. Which family are you looking for?"

The auxiliary police officer downstairs pointed to Chen Bin's house with the closed windows and said, "It's that uninhabited house. It shouldn't be yours."

"Oh, good, good. Let me tell you, I've long felt there was something wrong with them. Such a nice house, they buy it but don't live in it, just piling up junk on the ground. Don't you think there's a problem?"

"Also, when this house was first bought, they even brought over a pile of cement to renovate it. I originally thought they were going to live in it, but who knew there was no activity after the renovation."

"Don't you think it's strange?"

Just as she was speaking, Ye Lin walked out of the stairwell. He had come to get pliers; the cabinet in the kitchen was a bit difficult to open.

"What's wrong? Xiao Li, is there a problem?" Ye Lin asked.

"Nothing, Brother Ye. This auntie lives across the hall. She was just saying that the house opposite was renovated but no one lives in it, which is a bit strange," Xiao Li said.

Aunt Zhang saw that Ye Lin seemed to be this auxiliary police officer's superior, so she decisively abandoned Xiao Li and turned to ask Ye Lin: "Comrade, it has nothing to do with our family. We are all honest and law-abiding people. My husband used to be a teacher, teaching."

The old woman chattered on, pulling Ye Lin and starting to explain, which made Ye Lin laugh and cry at the same time, "Auntie, please rest assured, this matter has nothing to do with you. We will finish very soon and won't bother you for long, rest assured, okay?"

After speaking, Ye Lin turned around, took a large pair of wire cutters from the car, and went back upstairs.

Upstairs, with the search warrant, Chen Bin could only cooperate and open the door.

"Chief Chen, you don't even live in this house, and it's full of junk, so why did you insist on installing surveillance?" Yu Haifeng asked, pointing at the surveillance camera at the entrance.

Chen Bin twisted his head and stiffened his neck, "What's it to you if I want to? I just want to install surveillance, is that not allowed? It's not illegal."

"It's not illegal, but you're also a police officer. Don't you think this kind of act of trying to cover up only makes it more suspicious?" Yu Haifeng looked at Chen Bin as if he were an idiot.

Chen Bin was stunned for a moment, seemingly understanding, and a trace of annoyance appeared on his face. But it was too late to say anything now. He tilted his head and stopped speaking.

Such professional matters as collecting evidence had to be handled by the forensics team. Five people from the Branch Bureau's forensics department arrived and conducted a full search of the entire house.

They inspected the furniture in the living room one by one and quickly finished. They didn't find anything useful, only a few strands of hair. From their length, they appeared to be male, but further investigation was needed.

"Team Leader Yu, I really don't know what's so special about my storage room to be searched. Are you mistaken?" Seeing that nothing was found, Chen Bin began to make sarcastic remarks.

Ye Lin sneered, lifting his right leg. Chen Bin thought he was going to kick him again and quickly dodged.

"So much nonsense." Ye Lin retracted his foot; he just wanted to scare him, not actually kick him.

Chen Bin's face twitched for a moment, and he silently moved to stand in the corner. Damn it, there's no reasoning with such a boor. Thinking about the kicks he had just received, he still chose to remain silent.

Following Ye Lin's reminder, the forensics team used large wire cutters to open the cabinet under the kitchen sink. The result greatly disappointed Ye Lin; it was empty except for cobwebs.

He looked at Chen Bin with a displeased expression, "If there's nothing in there, why lock it so securely?"

Chen Bin almost cried out. After he bought this cabinet, since he didn't live there, and the lock was severely rusted, he himself had never opened it. This was purely a wrongful accusation!

However, seeing Ye Lin's displeased gaze, he decisively shut his mouth and said nothing.

Next, the focus of the forensic inspection was the two bedrooms, and Ye Lin also followed them into the room.

"Check the bottom of that wardrobe carefully; there are a few cracks there," Ye Lin reminded.

Chen Bin looked puzzled. What does that mean? How do you know there are cracks in my wardrobe?

Suddenly, he seemed to realize, pointing at Ye Lin and exclaiming, "You've been in my house!"

"Team Leader Yu, what do you mean by this? Entering my house without my permission, do you still follow rules?" Chen Bin then looked at Yu Haifeng and said.

Yu Haifeng's face darkened, and he didn't respond to him. Mainly, it was difficult to explain; entering his house without permission was indeed their mistake.

"Who said I entered your house? Can't I just guess?" Yu Haifeng ignored him, but Ye Lin was not willing to be scolded and simply played dumb.

"Guessing? Heh heh, why don't you go guess the Double Color Ball lottery?" Chen Bin cursed back.

"I can even say I calculated it with my fingers, what can you do? If you can be boring enough to install cameras, I can calculate with my fingers." In an argument, Ye Lin had never feared anyone.

"You're shameless!" Chen Bin cursed.

"Too lazy to bother with you. Brothers, please help investigate thoroughly, okay?" Ye Lin glanced at Chen Bin and then urged the forensics brothers again.

After a while, Section Chief Wang of the forensics department raised his head and shook it at Yu Haifeng, saying with an apologetic expression, "Team Leader Yu, there's no trace of blood, and no hair."

"See, I told you! I'm innocent. Yu Haifeng, Ye Lin, you just wait. I'm going to sue you two!" As soon as he heard there was no evidence, Chen Bin immediately jumped up as if he had been injected with adrenaline.

Ye Lin frowned, pushed Chen Bin aside, and walked straight into the bedroom. He looked around again himself, sniffing the air, and truly found nothing.

"What about that room?" Ye Lin pointed to the adjacent room connected to the balcony.

Section Chief Wang still looked apologetic, "There's nothing in there. It's empty, no clues."

Chen Bin sneered twice from the side, remaining silent. He knew he couldn't out-argue Ye Lin, nor could he beat him, so he decided to be low-key. Anyway, if no clues were found, he would definitely file a complaint.

The news of no clues made everyone's nerves tense. They had made such a big show today, even going to his precinct to bring him in, and now to say they couldn't find clues—this was going to be utterly humiliating.

Everyone's eyes turned to Ye Lin, hoping he could come up with a solution.

Chen Bin calmly took a pack of cigarettes from his bag and lit one, scoffing twice. His meaning was clear: your Criminal Police Team is incompetent, and you've come to the wrong place.
