121: Yuezhou Marathon

The next day, right after work started, the Municipal Bureau forwarded a notice from the Provincial Department, commending Ye Lin for assisting the Provincial Capital Police Bureau in solving the Yue Province University of Technology skeletal remains case during his vacation, and circulating the commendation throughout the province.

Gao Dawen was so excited that he went directly to the Municipal Bureau to request a transfer of personnel. It is said that the Municipal Bureau readily agreed, but that is a story for later.

The province-wide commendation made Xie Changkun grin from ear to ear. Although the Police Station didn't have much credit, the notice still mentioned "Baiyun Police Station Officer Ye Lin." The prefix was "Baiyun Police Station," which was also an honor for the Police Station.

Chief Xie, in his excitement, called everyone together for a good meal. Ye Lin could be considered to have secured some benefits for everyone.

November 10th was the day of the Yuezhou City Marathon. The weather was quite good, cloudy.

The temperature was also suitable, 15 degrees Celsius, neither cold nor hot.

Because marathon races are long, they mostly start in the morning.

The Yuezhou race started at 7:30 AM, with a total race time of 6 hours. Traffic control was lifted in sections, but the Yinsha River Third Bridge, where Ye Lin and his team were stationed, was already close to the finish line, so they basically had to wait until the very end.

At 6 AM, Ye Lin and his master, He Xinmin, arrived at their post. It was just getting light, and a sparse number of staff members were already in place. Traffic police also began setting up traffic control facilities, and by 6:30 AM, full control began.

In fact, the Police Station's role in marathon races is not very significant. They are mainly responsible for handling emergencies, and generally, there aren't many emergencies.

"Here, have some steamed buns," Chief He said, having collected breakfast from the staff: two steamed buns and a bag of milk, which was quite good.

"Sigh, city people nowadays like to do marathons. It's just that they don't exercise enough normally, so they find a special time to train. It's a waste of manpower and resources," Chief He complained.

Ye Lin chuckled in agreement. A few years ago, when marathons first became popular, citizens thought it was an international sport and were very enthusiastic. Now that every place is doing it, everyone is a bit tired of seeing them.

In addition, marathons require long periods of traffic control, so many people have opposed them during this time, believing they disrupt everyone's lives.

Of course, this had nothing to do with Ye Lin; he was indifferent to such things.

At 7 AM, participants had already started arriving in succession, but they were all heading to the starting point. There were still few people around the Third Bridge. Ye Lin and Chief He found a curb, sat down, shivering and chatting. There was no other way; it was still a bit chilly in the early morning.

This time, the traffic police team sent four officers: two on this side of the bridge and two on the other side.

"Oh, Chief Li, this marathon is being held so grandly that they even invited you out," Chief He suddenly stood up and greeted two traffic police officers walking towards them.

The older of the two traffic police officers pointed at Chief He and said with a smile, "Since you, Chief He, the old monster of this town, are here, isn't it only right for me to come?"

"Get lost, you're the old monster," Chief He cursed with a laugh.

"Come, let me introduce you. This is my apprentice, Ye Lin. You've heard of him, right?" Chief He said proudly, pointing at Ye Lin.

"Oh?" Chief Li's eyes suddenly lit up, and he looked Ye Lin up and down. "I've heard of him. He got a promotion after only a few months of graduation."

"But, Chief He, this is your apprentice? With your kind of person, how could you teach such an apprentice?" Chief Li unceremoniously struck at He Xinmin.

"Don't look down on people. Have I been a police officer for so many years for nothing? Ah, I am very experienced," Chief He quickly defended himself.

"Yes, yes, you're very famous among the neighborhood aunties, aren't you?" Chief Li teased.

After speaking, he ignored Chief He and directly extended his hand to Ye Lin, saying, "Li Yushan from the Traffic Police Detachment. I often go on missions with your master, so we're familiar. Just call me Chief Li."

Ye Lin extended his hand and shook it. "Captain Li, just call me Xiao Ye. My master is still very capable and very experienced."

"Hahahaha," Li Yushan laughed.

He looked at He Xinmin and said, "Not bad, Chief He, your apprentice is even speaking up for you."

"Hmph, of course," Chief He said triumphantly.

"Come, this is Yin Chaohua. He joined two years earlier than your apprentice and can be considered a veteran," Li Yushan said, pointing to the younger traffic police officer beside him.

"Chief He, Officer Ye, it's good to meet you. I've been working for two years, and my police rank isn't even as high as yours. I'm ashamed," Yin Chaohua greeted.

"Captain Yin, it's good to meet you. It's all luck, luck," Ye Lin said modestly.

The four introduced themselves. They would likely meet again in the future, so it was good to get acquainted.

"Alright, Chief He, you two rest. We're going to work."

"You guys have it good, just sitting there."

Li Yushan said playfully.

Indeed, for such events, the traffic police's pressure is greater than that of regular police. This is mainly because many people don't know about the traffic control and then rush over, stopping and causing a blockage behind them. Once traffic is blocked, it's difficult to clear it.

Chief He cursed with a smile, watching the two walk to the bridgehead.

At 7:30 AM, the starting point announced that the race had begun. The staff started to get busy. The bored Chief He led Ye Lin to stand behind the crowd.

Nearly two hours later, the first wave of runners arrived. As expected, our black brothers were in the first group. There was no way around it; the racial differences were there. Our own brothers were basically in the second group.

As the runners passed, the onlookers erupted in enthusiastic cheers. Perhaps since ancient times, our ancestors have enjoyed this kind of shouting.

He Xinmin also walked over with great interest, joining in the fun.

Ye Lin sat alone by the Riverside, looking at the wide Jiang River surface.

There were still many boats shuttling on the Yinsha River, digging sand, loading cargo, all kinds.

However, unlike the oar-rowed boats of ancient times, these were all machine-powered, and the chugging sound of motors constantly echoed on the Jiang River surface.

Large ships passed between the bridge piers under the Third Bridge, heading for their distant destinations.

Such scenery was much more interesting to Ye Lin than watching them run.

Fortunately, the uninteresting part passed relatively quickly. After lunch, most of the runners had finished, and they just waited for the organizing committee's command to finish work.

"Hehe, today was pretty good. Nothing happened. Sitting here all day is better than staying at the Police Station," He Xinmin was very satisfied with today. Being older, he liked to join in the fun, didn't have to do any work, and there was no danger. It couldn't be better.

Ye Lin smiled slightly, yawned, and said, "Master, didn't you teach me that as police officers, we shouldn't say things like 'easy' or 'comfortable' because it's easy to jinx things?"
