The original pipa was played on horseback!
"North Dust Teacher, we don't have class today, we just wanted to come and listen!"
"We heard there's a new teacher today, so we came to take a look!"
North Dust instantly understood. Weren't they just here for Nan Ye? Why the need to be so secretive?
"Alright then, find your own seats. Don't disturb the students who are listening to the lecture, otherwise I'll have to ask you to leave."
And so, the empty seats at the back of the classroom were now packed with people. Outside the windows, many students were also taking photos.
It could be described as completely overflowing with people.
"Let's start the lecture now!
The past few classes were about the flute. Today, we'll talk about the king of folk music—the Pipa!
Before we discuss the Pipa's techniques, let's first ask Nan Ye Teacher, who has done extensive research on history, to tell us about the Pipa's history!"
Nan Ye was just about to listen to how North Dust would give his lecture.
As a result, before he even started speaking, he was called out first.
What is this all about!
Now, he couldn't possibly say he didn't know anything, that would be too embarrassing.
Then his """Qin Wang Po Zhen Yue""", which was compiled from ancient musical scores, would become a joke.
Fortunately, before coming to the Imperial Capital, he had already made ample preparations.
Watching North Dust step aside from the podium, Nan Ye braced himself and walked up.
Suddenly standing in this position truly made him feel a bit at a loss.
The main reason was that he hadn't done any mental preparation at all.
"Cough cough... I was tricked into coming here today by your North Dust Teacher.
He said he was having a class, so I thought I was coming to listen, and I was quite excited to audit it.
But it turns out he's standing at the podium himself, and he didn't even give me a heads-up.
Wouldn't you say that's annoying!
I didn't prepare at all. If I don't speak well, just take it as a joke, okay!"
Nan Ye didn't hold back, directly complaining about North Dust face-to-face, making the students present burst into laughter:
[Hahaha, these two are too funny. Does this count as messing with your teammate?]
[It's fine, Nan Ye Teacher can talk about whatever he wants. Anyway, North Dust Teacher has his back, right...]
Nan Ye opened the computer on the podium and found it was kong kong ru ye (emptiness).
"Your North Dust Teacher is incompetent, he didn't even make a PPT!"
North Dust's forehead darkened. Are you addicted to complaining now?
I do live demonstrations, okay? What do I need a PPT for?
Without a PPT, Nan Ye could only bring out what was in his mind:
The earliest record regarding the Pipa is in Liu Xi's "Explanation of Names: Musical Instruments" from the Han Dynasty: "The Pipa originally came from the Hu people, played while on horseback.
From this passage, it can be seen that the earliest Pipa was played while riding a horse.
The tang dynasty poet Wang Han's line, "Fine wine of grapes in luminous cups, Pipa urging me on horseback before I drink," can serve as corroboration.
The Pipa that appeared during the Qin and Han dynasties was actually called Pipa.
They all had a straight neck and a round soundbox, considered straight-necked Pipas.
It wasn't until the Wei and Jin dynasties that people unified and fixed the name as Pipa, to match instruments like the "Qin" and "Se."
Interestingly, Ruan Xian, one of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove and a musician during the Western Jin dynasty.
Was very fond of using this type of instrument, so later generations called the Pipa with a round soundbox "Ruan."
During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, a four-stringed instrument with a pear-shaped body was introduced from the Western Regions.
It was by combining these two instruments that the present-day Pipa came into being.
And the true peak period should be the tang dynasty.
Especially in Pipa craftsmanship, it reached its peak state.
The materials used for Pipas in palace banquets were very exquisite and of superior quality.
At that time, after the envoys from Little Japan came to observe in the tang dynasty, they took away many treasures, including a mother-of-pearl inlaid rosewood five-string Pipa.

It is made of rosewood.
The front of the Pipa is a rosewood pickguard, with mother-of-pearl inlaid trees on it.
Below is a Hu person riding on a camel's back, holding a Pipa, playing as they walk. The melody is melodious, attracting birds to dance and camels to turn their heads.
It can't help but remind one of the Silk Road of yesteryear.
Its exquisite craftsmanship is such that even today, it is still considered a national treasure of Little Japan.
However, this has also become an indelible regret and unwillingness in the hearts of our people...
...
Nan Ye cited historical sources everywhere, showing how clear his understanding of Pipa history was.
North Dust also nodded repeatedly from the side.
Just as Nan Ye said, he could speak so comprehensively without any preparation.
What if he were given time to prepare?
The effect would probably be twice as good.
For the remainder of the time, North Dust began his lecture.
He was seen holding a Pipa, facing the students.
Then he explained the structure of the Pipa, the positions, the finger techniques for both hands, and so on, one by one.
Coupled with his unique insights into the Pipa, it was indeed a very professional class.
It wasn't until close to 9 o'clock that he took a break.
"There are only 5 minutes left until class is over, and I'm tired of talking. For the remaining time, I'll play a piece for everyone!"
Nan Ye sat on the side, truly feeling drowsy.
Mainly because the things North Dust was talking about were quite basic and he already knew them, so it sounded a bit boring.
Now, hearing that North Dust was going to perform a piece, he instantly perked up.
Most of the students below the stage were also like this, instantly becoming energetic.
[Ah ah ah ah, it's been a long time since I heard Xiao Lanling perform live. No, I must record it.]
[North Dust Teacher rarely performs during class. Today is probably because Nan Ye is here!]
[So, we owe it to Nan Ye!]
[Shush, quiet, it's starting...]
Everyone listened intently, the melody of the Pipa was very enchanting.
Just like in Bai Juyi's poem, "The rapid and low notes are played together, like large and small pearls falling onto a jade plate..."
Equally light, crisp, round, beautiful, and pleasant to listen to.
However, Nan Ye, who was sitting nearby, could tell immediately that the piece North Dust was playing was none other than the accompaniment for qing hua ci.
When did this guy learn this?
But he plays quite well. If only I hadn't known North Dust back then.
Otherwise, I should have just pulled him in to play the accompaniment.
But it doesn't seem too late now, does it!
I can consider it when I release new songs in the future.
"The sky-blue color awaits the misty rain, and I am waiting for you..."
As he listened, Nan Ye hummed along with the melody.
And so, a scene of one playing and one singing appeared.
This was the first time they had cooperated like this. There was no prior preparation; everything was improvised.
Yet, they were incredibly harmonious, as if they had rehearsed countless times.
[Ah ah ah ah, coming today was absolutely right! Not only can I hear Xiao Lanling play, but I can also hear Nan Ye sing. It's too worth it!]
[Is this something we can hear without spending hundreds of dollars on a ticket?]
[Hehe, I've decided, I must upload this part to the Guardian side...]
