Chapter 65 Wen Huilin's Best Friend Jian Ting
The master bedroom door was left slightly ajar. The sound of shoes being changed came from the living room, followed by footsteps walking down the hallway, and finally, the door to the secondary bedroom opened and closed.
Wen Huilin lay on her side in bed, motionless, hearing every movement Chen Ang made upon his return clearly.
She then opened her eyes and pulled her phone out from under the pillow beside her. The faint glow of the screen illuminated her face, displaying a real-time surveillance feed.
She replayed the footage from the last few minutes, from the living room to the hallway, and then to the door of the secondary bedroom.
Once the footage returned to a static state, she switched the surveillance app, and the screen showed Chen Ang changing clothes in the secondary bedroom.
She stared at it like this until Chen Ang went out again, finished his shower, came back, and lay down to look at his phone.
She carefully zoomed in on the image, tried a few different angles, and watched for two minutes, only to find that the surveillance camera could never capture Chen Ang's phone.
She decided to find an opportunity tomorrow to calibrate the surveillance angle, then exited to the background, locked the screen, and tucked the phone back under her pillow.
Tonight was her first time monitoring Chen Ang.
Starting tomorrow, she would try her best to record what time he left every day, where he went, and whom he met.
Lawyer Zhou was right. Evidence wasn't just documents and transfer records; his daily routine, whom he met, and which buildings he entered—as long as it was captured on video, it could be used in court later.
If they talked about money, the company, or the divorce, even if it was just audio, as long as it could be played in court, it would count as evidence.
She pulled the quilt up to her chest, closed her eyes, and drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, when she got up, Chen Ang was still asleep.
She didn't disturb him, but instead took Chen Zetian and left the house.
Arriving at her workplace, she finished submitting the required reports, took a half-day leave, and took a taxi directly to where Jian Ting worked.
Jian Ting worked in the International Taxation Division of the tax system. Lawyer Zhou had said that although her position was ordinary, she could access the information she needed, so she had to win her over for help.
The two met at a nearby Starbucks.
After waiting for about ten minutes, Jian Ting finally arrived, fashionably late.
"Sister, why the rush? I just got to work and hadn't even settled in yet. Mondays are too busy; a lot of trivial matters piled up to be handled today." As Jian Ting sat down, she picked up the latte Wen Huilin had already ordered for her.
Wen Huilin also picked up her coffee and took a sip, her fingers tracing the rim of the cup twice. "Regarding the Hengxing Investment and New Hengtai you helped me look up last time, if there is any more money coming in or going out, can you track it?"
"I can track it, certainly. If I don't dig too deep, my authorization is sufficient. But exactly to what extent do you want to investigate?" Jian Ting placed her coffee on the table, her fingers, painted with nude nail polish, tapping lightly on the cup.
"Everything. All records of capital inflows and outflows, every single transaction." She lowered her voice to a level only the two of them could hear.
"He has hidden so much money; these are all marital assets when it comes to the divorce. As long as I can prove he transferred them, I can get at least half."
Jian Ting raised her eyes slightly, scanned the surroundings, leaned in a bit, and whispered, "This is against the rules. If things go wrong, I could be fired immediately, or worse, I could end up in jail."
Wen Huilin was stunned. She knew it was against the rules, but she hadn't expected it to be serious enough to warrant jail time, yet she couldn't afford not to investigate.
She immediately leaned forward as well, using a flattering tone, and said, "Good Tingting, good sister, you'll help me get this money back, won't you? I definitely won't treat you unfairly. When the time comes, I'll pay for as many male models as you want."
"My dear bestie, why talk about rewards between sisters? You've had such a hard time; I've seen it with my own eyes. How could I not help you?" Jian Ting lowered her eyelashes, masking the expression in her eyes.
She had already seen last time that there was a complete asset segregation structure between Hengxing Investment and New Hengtai.
She was certain that Chen Ang was no fool; he had long since ensured all capital channels were compliant and filed correctly.
She did not tell Wen Huilin this fact.
Why would she tell her?
She herself had struggled for three years to finally land a stable job, thinking she had turned her life around, only to marry a stingy husband who lacked any sense of ceremony, provided no emotional support, didn't hand over his salary, and did nothing at home other than go to work.
Wen Huilin had used her body to climb up, receiving five hundred thousand in betrothal gifts and gold jewelry.
Chen Ang also handed over 8,000 yuan without fail every month, and the two properties under his name, worth nearly 5 million, were all given to Wen Huilin.
By what right did Wen Huilin expect hundreds of millions from him during the divorce? Because of the son she had by sleeping with someone else?
In the past, Jian Ting hadn't known that Chen Ang had so much wealth hidden away.
She had always been jealous of Wen Huilin, so she hadn't hesitated to stir up trouble between Chen Ang and Wen Huilin.
Now that they were finally getting a divorce, if Wen Huilin really walked away with two hundred million, it would be more painful for Jian Ting than being killed.
"Didn't I tell you last time that he bought a watch?" Wen Huilin looked up at her best friend again. "Lawyer Zhou said that the watch was bought by the company. As long as we can prove the source of funds was his hidden assets, that's our breakthrough."
"So, my good sister, you have to help me keep a close watch and investigate the actual use of the funds. As long as there is any substantial misappropriation of company funds by him, we can prove these are his assets."
"Is that lawyer of yours reliable?" Jian Ting stirred her coffee and asked casually.
"He is the best divorce lawyer in Bin City, with over two million followers online." Wen Huilin's voice rose by half a tone unconsciously.
Jian Ting nodded and said, "Then he should have told you that you need more evidence regarding Chen Ang. Bank statements alone aren't enough; you also need to find a breakthrough through the people he has contact with."
"What people?" Wen Huilin frowned.
"Are you stupid? Why don't you think about his parents?" Jian Ting's tone was indifferent. "Didn't you say Chen Ang is a filial son? His mother doesn't know about your situation, right? Make more phone calls, ask about their daily lives, and pry for information. You might just find out something."
Wen Huilin was silent for a moment, then her eyes brightened, and she nodded. "Thanks, sister. You really are my best strategist."
She didn't stay long, and after only a few sips of coffee, she got up and left.
Jian Ting watched her walk into the gray sky outside before picking up her own coffee and taking a slow, leisurely sip.
The corners of her mouth curled up, signaling her pleasure.
Oh, my dear sister, you'd better say more and cause more trouble; it would be best to drive Chen Ang into a corner.
A wealthy man like Chen Ang is not someone you, Wen Huilin, can manipulate.
After leaving the Starbucks, Wen Huilin walked a few hundred meters along the street, her mind repeatedly turning over Jian Ting's last words: "Chen Ang's parents, you should contact them more."
Her relationship with Qu Suping had always been distant. Chen Ang didn't like taking her back to his hometown, and she didn't want to go there herself either.
In the seven years they had been married, apart from returning once during the Chinese New Year, she had almost never initiated contact.
Occasionally, when Qu Suping made a video call, it was to look for Chen Zetian, not her.
She hadn't cared before; anyway, she never intended to spend her whole life with this family.
But now, it was different.
She found a bench on the side of the road, sat down, gathered her emotions, and dialed Qu Suping's number.
It rang twice before the other end picked up.
