266: Chapter 266 An Unintentional Act Leads to Success
Liu Zaiyong liked to drink, and while his tolerance was decent, his behavior while intoxicated was terrible; whenever he got drunk, he would throw all sorts of drunken tantrums.
Sure enough, after vomiting all over the floor, he didn't even bother to wipe his mouth before he started acting out.
"Come, come, let's keep drinking! I'm not drunk!"
"Brother, I'll call you Big Brother, let me toast you!"
Someone nearby advised him, "Liu Zaiyong, you're drunk. Stop drinking and let's go back."
"I... I'm not drunk. Who said I'm drunk? Waiter, bring... bring another bottle!"
Seeing this, many people nearby shook their heads; he was clearly drunk.
Then they looked at Qin Chuan, whose complexion was normal and showed no signs of intoxication, and they all gave him a mental thumbs-up.
There's no harm without comparison; both were drinking, yet one was drunk and throwing a tantrum, while the other was completely fine.
District Mayor Shao Changqing also gave a thumbs-up, looking impressed. Brother Chuan was amazing, truly incredible; he had a bottomless capacity for alcohol.
Liu Zaiyong continued.
Yelling and screaming, he shouted, "Where's the waiter? Where did they die off to? Bring a few more bottles of alcohol, and it must be moutai. I won't drink anything other than moutai!"
Hearing the shouting, the waiter finally came over.
Liu Zaiyong said loudly, "Why did you take so long? You're not giving me any face. Don't think I'm a sick cat just because I haven't shown my true power."
He grabbed an empty bottle and smashed it hard on the floor.
With a "bang," it shattered, leaving glass shards all over the floor.
The waiter let out a startled "Ah!" and looked terrified.
That was just the beginning. After smashing the bottle, Liu Zaiyong flipped the table. With a crash, plates, bowls, cups, and the unfinished food were all sent flying to the floor, creating a scene of total chaos.
Someone shook their head; he was truly drunk and throwing a major tantrum.
Someone stepped forward, "Liu Zaiyong, you're drunk. Stop making a scene, let's go back to the Party School."
"Who says I'm drunk? If you have the guts, drink bottle-for-bottle with me."
"Someone come help drag him back to the Party School. This is too outrageous."
Finally, a few men came up and forcibly dragged the guy away. Qin Chuan had been watching the spectacle from the side, feeling quite pleased.
This guy was a classic case of trying to steal a chicken only to lose the rice; he wanted to get me drunk to make me embarrass myself, but ended up getting drunk and acting like a fool himself.
The next day.
Today was the official start of classes for this term's training course for bureau-level cadres, and the first lesson was Marxism-Leninism by Professor Sun Gang.
Observant people had already noticed that when Professor Sun walked into the classroom, his expression was a bit serious, not as amiable as it had been yesterday.
Why was that?
It was because he had heard about Liu Zaiyong getting drunk and acting out the night before. This was simply shameful; not only did it make him look bad, but it also brought shame upon the Central Party School. He was already considering whether to issue a formal warning or something similar.
Standing on the podium, Professor Sun Gang said with a serious face.
"Students, we are officially starting classes today. I believe you all know each other by now, so there's no need for individual introductions. Before we begin, let's elect a class monitor and a study committee member..."
He explained the rules for electing the class monitor and study committee member, which would be by secret ballot.
Before voting, those interested in becoming the class monitor or study committee member could stand up and briefly state their reasons for running.
First, Liu Zaiyong stood up.
He had been dead drunk and throwing a tantrum the night before, but he was fine now and appeared to have fully recovered.
"Everyone, I intend to run for class monitor. I hope you will all vote for me..."
He was interrupted as soon as he started. Professor Sun Gang, with a grim face, waved his hand and said, "This student, please sit down. You cannot participate in the election."
What!
Liu Zaiyong was stunned.
He had dreamed of being class monitor; he had even flaunted his family background at the dinner yesterday, all for the purpose of becoming class monitor.
This... they were actually disqualifying him directly!
After realizing what happened, Liu Zaiyong wanted to argue, but upon feeling Professor Sun Gang's stern gaze, he immediately shut his mouth and didn't say a word. He understood from the professor's eyes that his drunken behavior the night before had left a very bad impression, which was why he was disqualified.
Understanding this, Liu Zaiyong felt frustrated and angry, and his gaze involuntarily fell upon Qin Chuan.
He thought fiercely in his heart, "Damn it, it's all because of you, kid. Just wait, you'll get what's coming to you."
But he didn't show any of it on his face. After a momentary pause, he put on a big smile, "In that case, I won't participate in the race for class monitor. Whoever becomes class monitor, I offer my congratulations."
This made him seem very magnanimous, as if he didn't care about the position at all, but in reality, his heart was bleeding. The seat of class monitor, which he had dreamed of, had just slipped away like that.
Next, a few others stood up to speak, proposing that everyone vote for them as class monitor or study committee member.
To Qin Chuan's surprise, Fang Xueqing also stood up.
"Students, my name is Fang Xueqing. I believe you all know my name by now. I would like to become our class's study committee member and provide service to everyone regarding our studies..."
She spoke for about two or three minutes, and quite a few people's eyes lit up, especially some of the men, who were likely already deciding to vote for her.
Everyone was given a small piece of white paper; they just needed to write down two names. The person with the highest votes would become the class monitor, and the second would be the study committee member. Soon, everyone had finished filling them out, and the papers were collected.
"These two students, please come up to the podium. One will read the votes, and the other will tally them."
Soon, the counting and tallying began.
"One vote for Qin Chuan!"
"One vote for Qin Chuan!"
"One vote for Fang Xueqing!"
"One vote for Qin Chuan!"
"..."
Qin Chuan looked astonished. I didn't stand up to run for class monitor, so why is everyone voting for me? This is strange.
Could it be because I'm handsome, or because I'm the youngest...
Until the counting was finished, Qin Chuan still hadn't collected his thoughts. What was quite absurd was that out of the 32 people in the class, he had received 26 votes, Fang Xueqing had received 19, and the others had only received single-digit votes.
This was truly absurd!
Finally collecting his thoughts, Qin Chuan thought to himself, this truly is an unintentional success. He had never intended to be class monitor because he knew he had the least seniority and the lowest rank. He never expected so many people to vote for him.
This was truly an unexpected joy.
Of course, Qin Chuan also wanted to be class monitor. This was something that could be recorded in his personnel file; being the class monitor of the Central Party School's training course for bureau-level cadres was a huge plus and would be of immense benefit to his future promotion.
Thinking of this, a slight curve appeared on Qin Chuan's lips, and he felt happy. Soon, he felt several gazes upon him.
One of those gazes was filled with darkness and hatred. Qin Chuan only needed to glance with the corner of his eye to know whose gaze it was.
