29: Chapter 29 Zhang Yuntao's Appointment
In the office of the Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, Secretary Zhang Yuntao finished reviewing several documents and then asked his secretary.
"Little Liu, what is the schedule for this morning?"
Secretary Little Liu replied, "From nine-thirty to ten-thirty, you are mainly meeting with visitors. At ten-thirty, you have a meeting to discuss the ten model projects for Project Hope..."
After hearing the morning schedule, Secretary Zhang Yuntao asked, "Who wants to see me this morning?"
"This is the list. I have already organized it. Please take a look."
Taking the list, Secretary Zhang Yuntao glanced over it. His gaze landed on the name Qin Chuan, and he asked, "Where is Dahe Township? Why has their Township Party Committee Secretary come all the way to our Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League to see me?"
Secretary Little Liu replied, "Leader, Dahe Township is a township under Sanjiang County, Dongzhou City. It is mountainous and relatively economically backward. I haven't asked him about the purpose of his visit yet."
Perhaps out of curiosity, Secretary Zhang Yuntao waved his hand and said, "Then I will see him first. Notify him to come over."
Soon, Qin Chuan brought Director Hu Qibin to knock on the door and enter Secretary Zhang Yuntao's office.
"Secretary Zhang, hello. I am Qin Chuan from Dahe Township. This is Director Hu Qibin, Director of the Party and Government Office of our Dahe Township."
Director Hu Qibin also quickly greeted him respectfully, "Secretary Zhang, hello."
Secretary Zhang Yuntao was slightly taken aback.
The Township Party Committee Secretary of Dahe Township was so young. If he hadn't introduced himself, he would have thought Director Hu Qibin was the Township Party Committee Secretary.
To be a Township Party Committee Secretary, it would be normal to be in one's thirties. Qin Chuan was too young; he couldn't have graduated from university that many years ago.
After all, he was the Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League; what kind of storms had he not seen? He was only slightly taken aback internally, and it did not show on his face.
"Qin Chuan, please sit."
Sitting down on the sofa, Qin Chuan began to introduce the situation in Dahe Township, focusing, of course, on the state of educational resources, such as Dahe Township Central School.
"Secretary Zhang, our Dahe Township has limited financial capacity. Our Dahe Township Central School is too old and dilapidated; rebuilding it is urgent. I heard that the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League is taking the lead in preparing to build ten model projects across the province, and I earnestly request that Secretary Zhang consider our Dahe Township."
Secretary Zhang Yuntao was surprised!
They had only finalized the ten model projects yesterday. How did Qin Chuan know? Could it be that he had acquaintances in the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League or some other connections?
However, it was just a moment of surprise; it wasn't enough to make him look at Qin Chuan in a new light.
"Qin Chuan, we also have our own difficulties. The province is so large, and there are many schools with difficulties like yours. We cannot take care of everyone. I will accept your application materials; wait for news."
Extensive experience told Qin Chuan that this was just polite rhetoric.
The so-called "wait for news" meant no news, and the matter would eventually fizzle out.
Although he had considered that he might hit a wall and didn't hold out hope for immediate success, he was still unwilling to just give up like this.
Qin Chuan tried hard to persuade him, saying much more, full of sincerity.
After listening for about three to five minutes, Secretary Zhang Yuntao still did not agree. He raised his hand to check the time, and then issued an order to leave.
"Comrade Qin Chuan, I am really sorry. There are many others waiting to see me later. Let's stop here; I will consider your situation."
Since the other party had said as much, Qin Chuan had no choice but to stand up and take his leave.
Walking out of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, Qin Chuan did not seem very disappointed, but Director Hu Qibin was completely different; the disappointment on his face was obvious.
"Qin Chuan, what should we do next?"
Qin Chuan said relaxedly, "Let me think about it some more. As for you, since it's rare to come to the provincial capital, you can walk around. There shouldn't be anything going on this morning. Keep your phone on. If there is anything this afternoon, I will call you."
"Alright, I will wait for your message at any time."
Qin Chuan returned to the Provincial Party Committee villa area. His parents were not at home; they had both gone to work. He was happy to be free and simply relaxed and laid down.
At noon, he even had a lovely nap. Around three o'clock in the afternoon, Qin Chuan arrived at the Provincial Party Committee compound and successfully reached the door of the office of the Provincial Party Secretary.
The first secretary of the Provincial Party Committee saw Qin Chuan, was slightly surprised, and quickly said, "Little Qin, you are here."
Qin Chuan said, "I came over to see my dad."
The first secretary of the Provincial Party Committee said, "The leader is listening to a report from Secretary Zhang Yuntao, the Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League. Should I go tell him for you, or will you wait for a while?"
"It's fine, I can just knock and go in. No need to trouble you."
A son seeing his father is only natural, so there was nothing to worry about. Qin Chuan knocked on the door and entered the office of the Provincial Party Secretary.
After pushing the door open and entering, Qin Chuan deliberately said, "Dad, are you busy?"
Secretary Zhang Yuntao was reporting his work to the Provincial Party Secretary with caution and a bit of nervousness in his heart. Facing the number one person in the Provincial Party Committee, anyone would feel pressure, and he was no exception.
Provincial Party Secretary Qin Zhendong looked stern, and one could feel his powerful aura from several meters away. Among the cadres in the province, who wouldn't be nervous upon seeing Secretary Qin!
Who would have known that the originally stern Provincial Party Secretary Qin Zhendong would suddenly soften his expression, even showing a smile, and say very kindly, "Little Chuan, why are you here? Is something the matter?"
Qin Chuan stood at the door and did not come in. "Dad, actually it's nothing. You go ahead and get busy. We'll talk about it when we get home tonight."
After saying this, he closed the door, and Qin Chuan left.
Seeing this scene, Secretary Zhang Yuntao could not remain calm.
He was incomparably shocked!
He could hardly believe his own eyes. Wasn't this Qin Chuan, the Party Committee Secretary of Dahe Township who had come to see him this morning?
He was actually the son of the Provincial Party Secretary!
After being stunned for a full three to five seconds, Secretary Zhang Yuntao carefully asked, "Secretary Qin, is this your son?"
Provincial Party Secretary Qin Zhendong smiled and said, "Yes, this is my son."
Secretary Zhang Yuntao was shocked once again, so much so that he was distracted several times while reporting his work afterward and almost made a mistake.
Because he kept thinking in his heart, "He is actually the son of Secretary Qin! Heavens, fortunately I found out about this relationship."
If he hadn't known that Qin Chuan was the son of the Provincial Party Secretary and had rejected their application, that would have been a huge problem.
After finishing his work report and walking out of the office of the Provincial Party Secretary, even though Secretary Zhang Yuntao had seen big storms and waves and had already become a department-level cadre, his head was still buzzing, and he had not fully recovered his senses even at this moment.
It wasn't until he returned to his office that he completely sobered up, and he immediately called his secretary over.
"Little Liu, when Qin Chuan from Dahe Township registered, did he leave a contact number?"
Little Liu immediately went to check and then came to report, "Leader, he left a mobile phone number, 137..."
Secretary Zhang Yuntao quickly dialed the number.
At this time, Qin Chuan was at the Xinhua Bookstore in the provincial capital.
He was mainly looking to see what he could take back. This time coming to the provincial capital, he was prepared to take some books back for the teachers and students of the Central School.
The Central School had a library, which had been converted from a vacant classroom. It had a few dilapidated bookshelves inside, but they didn't hold many books.
There was no money to buy books.
Even though there were not many books, the students read them voraciously. Those limited books were read over and over again, almost worn to tatters.
