105: Chapter 105 Wei Xue's Dilemma
When Financial Director Wei Xue walked into the private room, Deputy Director Chen Ling's eyes lit up.
She was wearing a white, low-cut shirt today, paired with a small black blazer. Her skirt ended just above her knees, and her high heels clicked crisply against the floor.
Her long hair draped over her shoulders, her makeup was exquisite, and her lips were painted in just the right shade of red.
In her early thirties, she was at the age where a woman is most alluring. She kept her figure like someone in her twenties, but she possessed an air of shrewd capability that young girls couldn't imitate.
As the Financial Director of Hengmo Logistics, she was a well-known cold-faced beauty in the circle.
Usually, anyone who wanted to see her had to make an appointment, let alone invite her out for drinks and dinner.
But today, she had to come.
Her brother, Wei Heng, had been locked up for three days. Over thirty people were involved in an armed brawl; although no one had died, the nature of the incident was severe.
Xu Weidong had personally led the team to make the arrests, and not a single person had escaped.
"Deputy Director Chen Ling, Chief Wang."
Financial Director Wei Xue held up her wine glass, smiling gently and appropriately.
"It is my good fortune to be able to host you both today. I will toast you first."
She tilted her head back and downed half a small glass of white liquor.
Deputy Director Chen Ling's gaze slid from her face to her neck, then stopped as it moved lower.
The collar of her low-cut shirt was slightly open, and the expanse of pale skin below her collarbone made his Adam's apple bob.
"General Manager Wei, you are too polite."
He raised his glass and took a slow sip, his eyes never leaving that spot.
"We are all friends, no need to be so formal."
Chief Wang sat to the side, also raising his glass, but he didn't say much.
He was different from Deputy Director Chen Ling; although he had come, he felt a bit uneasy.
He knew Xu Weidong's temper. If this matter reached the Director's ears...
But then he thought, if Deputy Director Chen Ling wasn't afraid, what was he afraid of?
It was just a meal, and he hadn't promised anything.
"Deputy Director Chen Ling, Chief Wang."
Financial Director Wei Xue poured more wine for the two of them, her voice softening slightly.
"You both know about my brother's situation."
"He just has a hot temper. That day, the other side started it, and he was just protecting his own brothers..."
"General Manager Wei."
Deputy Director Chen Ling interrupted her, saying with a smile, "We shouldn't discuss the details of the case here."
"Today is just about eating, drinking, and making friends."
"Don't you agree?"
Financial Director Wei Xue's smile didn't waver, but her heart sank.
Not discussing the case meant he didn't want to help.
But since he had come, it meant there was a chance.
She had seen too many officials like this—saying one thing but doing another. It all depended on whether you could handle them.
"Deputy Director Chen Ling is right."
She raised her glass and said, "Then let's not talk about official business. I'll toast Deputy Director Chen Ling again."
Financial Director Wei Xue stood up and leaned forward slightly to pour wine for Deputy Director Chen Ling.
The collar of her shirt swayed before his eyes, and the scent of her perfume drifted straight into his nose.
When Deputy Director Chen Ling took the glass, his fingers brushed against the back of her hand.
Seeing that Financial Director Wei Xue didn't pull away, Deputy Director Chen Ling knew what to do.
"General Manager Wei."
He crossed his legs, leaned back in his chair, and scanned her from her legs all the way up.
"How old are you this year?"
"Thirty-two."
Financial Director Wei Xue sat down, her skirt riding up a bit, revealing a patch of fair, smooth thigh.
She didn't pull it down, just let it stay exposed.
"Thirty-two, the prime of your life."
Deputy Director Chen Ling smacked his lips and asked, "Do you have children at home?"
"Divorced, no children."
Financial Director Wei Xue smiled and raised her glass.
"I'm on my own, relying entirely on my brother."
"Oh?"
Deputy Director Chen Ling narrowed his eyes and said, "Managing such a large operation all by yourself, that's not easy."
Chief Wang listened from the side, his chopsticks slowing down as he picked at his food.
He looked at Deputy Director Chen Ling, then at Financial Director Wei Xue, and suddenly felt that coming here today might have been a mistake.
This meal had taken on a different flavor.
But he didn't say anything, and Financial Director Wei Xue toasted another round.
When toasting Deputy Director Chen Ling, she stood very close, holding the glass at chest level, allowing Deputy Director Chen Ling's gaze to slide right down her arm and into her neckline.
"Deputy Director Chen Ling."
Her voice dropped, carrying a hint of subtle ingratiation.
"Please put some effort into my brother's matter."
Deputy Director Chen Ling took the glass but didn't drink immediately; instead, he looked her up and down.
His gaze was unbridled, as if he were appraising a piece of merchandise.
"General Manager Wei, your brother's matter—it's not exactly big, but it's not small either."
Deputy Director Chen Ling said slowly, "Over thirty people, armed brawl, on the main street of the county."
"Director Xu personally made the arrests."
"You know Director Xu's temper. With the Crackdown on Organized Crime in full swing, they ran right into the line of fire."
Financial Director Wei Xue's expression shifted, but she quickly smiled again. "That's why I came to you, Deputy Director Chen Ling."
"You may not have the final say in the bureau's affairs, but you can certainly put in a good word, right?"
Deputy Director Chen Ling laughed, his smile suggestive.
"Put in a good word? Of course I can."
Deputy Director Chen Ling paused, then suddenly leaned in closer.
"But General Manager Wei, you have to give me a reason to speak up."
Financial Director Wei Xue tightened up inside, but her smile didn't change. "What kind of reason does Deputy Director Chen Ling want?"
Deputy Director Chen Ling didn't answer. He finished his drink in one gulp, set the empty glass on the table, and stared straight at her.
"General Manager Wei, sit down. Let's talk about this slowly."
Financial Director Wei Xue sat back in her chair, her skirt riding up even further.
She didn't pull it down; instead, she crossed her legs, that flash of white skin appearing particularly striking under the lights.
Chief Wang lowered his head to eat, pretending he saw nothing.
For the next hour, Deputy Director Chen Ling drank quite a bit, but he spent more time looking at Financial Director Wei Xue than he did drinking.
Financial Director Wei Xue toasted him, and he accepted, but every time he took the glass, he would "accidentally" touch her hand.
When Financial Director Wei Xue poured him wine, he would tilt his head to look down her neckline, watching brazenly and without concealment.
"General Manager Wei."
After several rounds of drinks, Deputy Director Chen Ling's face was flushed and his tongue was a bit thick, but his eyes were even more unbridled.
"To tell you the truth, I'm very happy you could come today."
He reached out and patted Financial Director Wei Xue's shoulder, his palm lingering there for two seconds before slowly sliding down to squeeze her upper arm.
"I have your brother's matter under control."
Financial Director Wei Xue stiffened for a moment, but quickly relaxed, smiling as she poured him more wine. "Then I'll leave it to you, Deputy Director Chen Ling."
"Easy, easy."
Deputy Director Chen Ling took the glass, his fingers brushing against the back of her hand again, this time lingering even longer.
"With a General Manager Wei who is so sensible, how could I not help?"
Chief Wang finally raised his head and glanced at Deputy Director Chen Ling.
Deputy Director Chen Ling ignored him, drinking on his own, his gaze drifting back to Financial Director Wei Xue's legs.
The skirt Financial Director Wei Xue was wearing today was indeed short; while sitting, it covered almost nothing.
She seemed to notice Deputy Director Chen Ling's gaze, but she didn't close her legs. Instead, she changed positions, crossing her legs the other way.
Deputy Director Chen Ling swallowed hard and said, "General Manager Wei, you must exercise, right? This leg shape... it's beautiful."
Financial Director Wei Xue smiled, a hint of coquettishness in her expression. "Deputy Director Chen Ling, you've had too much to drink."
"Not too much."
Deputy Director Chen Ling waved his hand. "That's just the way I am. When I drink, I actually tell the truth."
"General Manager Wei, you are truly beautiful."
Financial Director Wei Xue lowered her lashes, took a sip of her wine, and didn't respond.
Deputy Director Chen Ling leaned in closer and lowered his voice. "General Manager Wei, I'll keep an eye on your brother's matter."
"But you also have to help me... relieve some of this heat..."
Chief Wang finally couldn't watch anymore. He stood up and said, "Old Chen, that's enough. We have a meeting tomorrow."
Deputy Director Chen Ling waved his hand. "What's the rush? Sit for a while longer."
Chief Wang looked at his watch, then at Financial Director Wei Xue, hesitated, and sat back down.
Financial Director Wei Xue also stood up and smiled. "Deputy Director Chen Ling, it really is getting late. We'll discuss my brother's matter when I invite you out another day."
She picked up her bag, ready to leave.
Deputy Director Chen Ling suddenly reached out, grabbed her wrist, and said, "Don't be in such a rush."
Financial Director Wei Xue's body paused, and she looked down at him.
Deputy Director Chen Ling didn't let go; instead, he gripped tighter, his thumb brushing against the inside of her wrist.
"General Manager Wei, I've heard about the matter between you and Dongting Club."
"Dongting Club is Chen Dong's territory. Your brother caused such a scene with Chen Dong—do you think just getting your brother out is the end of it?"
Financial Director Wei Xue's expression changed.
Deputy Director Chen Ling let go of her hand, leaned back in his chair, and said slowly, "Chen Dong has connections too. Your brother is inside, but he's still out there running wild. Aren't you afraid he'll come for revenge later?"
Financial Director Wei Xue stood for a few seconds, then slowly sat back down.
"Deputy Director Chen Ling, what do you mean by that?"
Deputy Director Chen Ling laughed, looking very smug.
"Nothing special."
"I'm just reminding you, General Manager Wei: for your brother's matter, just getting him out isn't enough. You have to solve the root of the problem."
Deputy Director Chen Ling paused, his gaze sweeping over her face, and suddenly asked an unrelated question.
"General Manager Wei, you go to the gym, right?"
Financial Director Wei Xue was stunned for a moment. "Occasionally."
"No wonder."
Deputy Director Chen Ling smacked his lips. "This figure is better than any of the young girls in our bureau."
Chief Wang stopped talking entirely, lowering his head to shovel food into his mouth, wishing he could bury himself in his bowl.
Financial Director Wei Xue forced a smile and raised her glass for another toast. When Deputy Director Chen Ling took the glass, his fingers traced her palm, then slowly curled around and gripped her fingers.
"General Manager Wei, I can handle your brother's matter..."
Deputy Director Chen Ling leaned into her ear, his voice so low that only the two of them could hear. "But you have to invite me... out alone another day."
Financial Director Wei Xue's eyelashes fluttered, and she smiled. "Alright. Another day, I will invite Deputy Director Chen Ling out alone."
Deputy Director Chen Ling let go, nodded with satisfaction, and finished his drink in one gulp.
Financial Director Wei Xue stood up, picked up her bag, and nodded at the two men. "Deputy Director Chen Ling, Chief Wang, I'll be leaving now."
"I'll invite you both another day."
She turned and walked out, her high heels clicking against the floor, a sight to behold.
Deputy Director Chen Ling's gaze followed her back—from her shoulders to her waist, from her waist to her hips, from her hips to her legs—all the way until the door closed.
"Tsk, tsk."
"Just these legs... they'd be fun for a year."
Chief Wang finally raised his head and glanced at him. "Old Chen, that's enough."
"What?"
"It's just a meal. Nothing happened."
Chief Wang opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but swallowed it back.
"Let's go. Let's head back."
The two walked out of the restaurant; the night breeze blew over, carrying a hint of heat.
Meanwhile, in Financial Director Wei Xue's car, she was leaning back in her seat with her eyes closed.
"General Manager Wei, the case is a bit troublesome."
The lawyer's voice was somewhat nervous. "Director Xu is watching very closely. The possibility of bail pending trial is not high."
Financial Director Wei Xue was silent for a few seconds, then said, "I understand."
Deputy Director Chen Ling's lecherous eyes flashed through her mind.
She took a deep breath and gripped her phone a little tighter.
