28: Chapter 28 Gu Yanchen Gets Beaten

Su Yue was worried and wanted to go with him, but he stopped her.

His reasoning was: if a zombie outbreak occurred, he could escape on his own, but it would be difficult if he had to take her with him.

Su Yue was speechless; she had clearly been dismissed by him.

Gu Yanchen promised repeatedly that he would return safely, and only then did Su Yue let him go.

After settling everything, Su Yue went to keep Mother Gu company to pass the time.

"Auntie, was Gu Yanchen this mischievous when he was a child?"

Listening to Mother Gu recount funny stories about Gu Yanchen's childhood, Su Yue laughed until she couldn't straighten her back.

"You have no idea how naughty he was; he even led the older kids to blow up the outhouse."

"You can't imagine how much he smelled, covered from head to toe in excrement, with only his eyes blinking."

"Auntie, you must have beaten him up."

"More than just beating him, I even punished him by not letting him eat dinner."

Thinking back on it now, Mother Gu felt both angry and amused.

Su Yue found it hard to imagine him covered in excrement; it was just too disgusting.

Mother Gu continued telling Su Yue many more funny stories, and Su Yue listened with great interest, laughing out loud from time to time.

Mother Gu changed the subject and asked: "Su Yue, where is your family? Won't they have any objections to A-Yan and me moving in?"

Logically, since she and A-Yan had moved in, she should have met her parents, but she hadn't seen them all day, so she couldn't help but feel curious.

Su Yue said indifferently: "They don't live here. It's just me, the housekeeper, and two servants."

"Is your relationship with your parents not good?" Mother Gu regretted asking as soon as the words left her mouth and said awkwardly: "Look at what I just said. Su Yue, please don't mind."

"It's fine, Auntie. I'm used to it." Su Yue had long since let it go and no longer held any expectations for them.

"Su Yue, where did A-Yan go?"

Mother Gu asked, remembering that she hadn't seen her son since nightfall; in reality, she just wanted to change the subject.

"He went home to get some things."

"Oh, I see."

Neither of them had anything left to talk about, and the atmosphere suddenly became tense.

"Auntie, I still have homework to do, so I'll be going now. Rest well."

After saying this, Su Yue ran off; she felt she would die of awkwardness if she stayed any longer.

"Hey..." Mother Gu wanted to say that she wasn't some kind of monster, so why was she running so fast?

On the other side, on his way back after retrieving his things, Gu Yanchen discovered he was being followed.

He quickened his pace, but several figures followed closely and surrounded him.

"Kid, where do you think you're running to?"

Gu Yanchen asked coldly: "Do I have a grudge against you?"

The leader gave the order directly: "Stop the chatter. Go for it. If you beat him to death, the higher-ups will handle it."

At first, Gu Yanchen was more than capable of handling the few men, but he gradually began to struggle.

Two fists are no match for many sticks.

Noticing this, the men exchanged glances and closed in on him together.

Caught off guard, Gu Yanchen was struck in the back. He stumbled and fell to his knees, and when he tried to get up, he was pinned down by sticks.

The leader stepped forward and patted his face: "Kid, don't be so greedy. Don't covet things that aren't yours."

Gu Yanchen knew what he meant; it was likely the other party from yesterday's match who had sent these people.

"Break his arms and legs, then throw him in the mass grave."

He could not become a cripple; both Su Yue and his mother needed him.

Relying on this surge of ruthlessness, Gu Yanchen broke free from under the sticks.

"Chase him! Don't let him get away!"

Seeing him run, the leader and his underlings immediately gave chase.

"Ah!" Suddenly, one of the underlings let out a blood-curdling scream.

The group stared in terror at the monster tearing at the underling's neck, their legs shaking so hard they could barely stand.

The underling's teeth chattered, and he stammered: "Bo... Boss, wh... what should we do?"

The leader pointed randomly at one of the underlings: "You, go see who's acting like a ghost."

The underling who was pointed at broke down, his face full of despair: "Boss, I don't dare to go."

"Go!" The leader kicked him in the butt. In truth, he was also afraid, but he didn't show it.

The underling walked over, trembling: "Who are you, playing tricks here?"

The person turned around, face ferocious, eyes hollow, and mouth stained with blood.

The underling was so terrified that he collapsed to the ground, his pants soaked with urine, showing just how scared he was.

"You... don't come over here, ah!"

The group was scared out of their wits, instinctively covering their own necks, as if they were the ones being bitten.

One of the underlings realized what was happening and scrambled away, and the others, seeing this, quickly fled as well, fearing that if they were a second late, their necks would be the ones bitten off.

Gu Yanchen did not see this scene; he limped back to Su Yue's home.

Seeing the injured Gu Yanchen, Su Yue was so angry that tears streamed down her face.

"Don't let Mother Gu hear. Let's go upstairs." Gu Yanchen glanced at the room where Mother Gu was and pulled Su Yue upstairs.

"Didn't you promise me you wouldn't go to the boxing match? Why did you lie to me again?"

Su Yue's eyes were red, and she pounded on his chest, but she didn't dare to use much force, afraid of hurting him.

"Hiss..." Gu Yanchen winced, his brow furrowing in pain as she hit his wound directly.
