40: Chapter 40 Returning Home
Along the way, flames soared into the sky and thick smoke billowed. Humans were being chased by swarms of zombies, fleeing in panic in every direction, with desperate screams rising one after another.
This city, once bustling and full of vitality, had now turned into ruins, as terrifying as hell.
Looking at the scene before her, Su Yue felt a wave of emotion rise in her heart: "The world is truly unpredictable! Who could have foreseen that on the first day of the Apocalypse, the zombie virus would spread so rapidly?"
Suddenly, Dr. Xia and his team appeared ahead, desperately waving at them to signal.
"A-Yan, isn't that Dr. Xia?" Su Yue pointed ahead and shouted.
"I see him."
Gu Yanchen replied, but he had no intention of stopping the car. The world outside was full of crises at this moment, and he really did not want to risk stopping.
He had to admit that he was a bit selfish because he dared not gamble with the lives of Su Yue and his mother.
"I really didn't expect that bald donkey to actually have some sense of responsibility?" Even Bo Yu couldn't help but look at Dr. Xia with new eyes, a hint of admiration appearing in his eyes.
Soon, they drove to the back door of the Villa.
Gu Yanchen parked the car steadily by the roadside. The moment the engine cut off, it felt as if the air around them had frozen.
Su Yue was the first to push open the car door. The evening breeze brushed against her face with a chill. She turned back to look at Gu Yanchen, her eyes flashing with determination and excitement.
"We're home," she said softly, her voice trembling slightly, as if afraid to break the tranquility of this moment.
Gu Yanchen nodded. His eyes were deep and steady, revealing a strength that put people at ease.
Su Yue turned to look at Lian Boyu and Mother Gu in the car, her face beaming with joy and anticipation.
Lian Boyu carefully carried Mother Gu out. His movements were gentle and cautious, afraid of causing Mother Gu the slightest discomfort.
Mother Gu's face was pale, and she remained with her eyes closed in a deep sleep, as if none of this had any effect on her.
"The air here is still the best!" Lian Boyu exclaimed, his tone full of affection for this land.
After getting out of the car, Gu Yanchen did not immediately walk toward the house. Instead, he stood in place, looking around, vigilantly observing the movements in the surroundings.
After confirming there was nothing unusual, he closed the car door with relief and followed the others on the path home.
Su Yue called Uncle Butler and asked him to open the back door.
They walked quickly toward the back door. Their footsteps sounded exceptionally clear in the quiet evening, each step treading out the hope of rebirth.
Seeing them return, Uncle Butler finally let go of the heart that had been worried all day, shedding tears of excitement.
"Miss, you're finally back! I was really afraid..." He choked up and couldn't continue.
Su Yue's eyes also couldn't help but moisten. She comforted him: "Uncle Butler, don't be sad. Haven't I returned safely?"
Uncle Butler wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes and tried hard to squeeze out a smile: "Right, as long as you have returned safely, Miss, that's all that matters."
"No, stop being so sentimental. Hurry up and tell me where Gu Yanchen's mother's room is, I have an urgent need to pee!" The man said with an anxious face. His complexion had already turned a bit flushed, and it looked like he really couldn't hold it in anymore.
The group was amused by his sudden words and burst into laughter.
Gu Yanchen hurriedly took his mother and headed toward the room on the left.
It was Uncle Butler who kindly pointed the way for him: "The restroom is the first room on the right at the end of the hallway. Go quickly."
Lian Boyu nodded gratefully, then rushed toward the restroom like he was flying.
Watching his retreating figure, a smile appeared on the corners of Su Yue's mouth, and she shook her head lightly.
Just as she turned to leave, she caught sight of Uncle Butler out of the corner of her eye. She saw his lips slightly parted, as if he had something to say but hesitated.
So, Su Yue asked curiously: "Uncle Butler, is there something you want to tell me?"
Uncle Butler hesitated for a moment, but finally spoke: "Miss, that young man just now doesn't look like a good person. You had better be extra careful."
As an experienced butler, he knew well that people's hearts are unpredictable, and his vigilance toward strangers was higher.
Although the young man did not seem to have any malicious intent, his sharp gaze and cold expression made people feel suspicious.
The Miss was young and innocent, easily misled by appearances, so he felt it was necessary to give a reminder.
Su Yue smiled and nodded, indicating that she understood Uncle Butler's concern.
She understood Uncle Butler's good intentions and was grateful for his care, but she had her own plans in mind. She actually wanted to know what Lian Boyu's purpose was.
She comforted him: "Don't worry, Uncle Butler, I will pay attention to protecting my own safety. Now, in this Apocalypse, we can only keep danger right under our own noses!"
After speaking, she gave Uncle Butler a reassuring look, letting him know that she was prepared to deal with any potential risks.
Seeing Su Yue so firm, Uncle Butler said no more.
He believed that the Miss had enough wisdom and judgment to handle this matter. Although he was still somewhat worried, he decided to respect the Miss's choice, guarding her silently and giving her a helping hand when necessary.
