21: Chapter 21 The Church of Nales

The Black-Armored Person's arm elongated again to attack Nie Ning, but this time, Nie Ning used Shadow Gliding Steps to dodge the attack, then slashed down with his longsword.

Enhanced by flames, the Black-Armored Person's arm was severed directly.

The arm that fell to the ground was consumed by roaring flames, and in an instant, it turned into a lump of black slime.

Unlike before, the Black-Armored Person now wore a look of pain on its face; clearly, this strike had a significant impact on it.

Since he knew flames were effective, Nie Ning no longer held back.

However, the ability to control fire consumed battle energy very quickly, and high-intensity combat could not be maintained for long, so he had to end the fight quickly.

Nie Ning's figure flickered as he rapidly closed in on the Black-Armored Person, his flaming longsword attacking from various tricky angles.

Although the Black-Armored Person did not speak, it became constrained in battle, its blood-red eyes darting around, clearly intending to retreat.

After a few rounds, the Black-Armored Person was covered in wounds, and black pus continued to ooze from them, looking extremely disgusting.

For Nie Ning, since the situation had reversed, whether it could leave or not was not up to it to decide.

Seizing the opportunity, Nie Ning lunged forward, kicked it to the ground, and thrust his flaming longsword into the Black-Armored Person's heart.

As battle energy surged wildly, the flaming longsword shone brightly, and the raging flames spread from the heart to cover the Black-Armored Person's entire body.

"The radiance of the God of Nales will shine..."

The Black-Armored Person said to Nie Ning in a hoarse voice.

There was no fear in its eyes, only a trace of madness amidst the calmness.

Hearing this, Nie Ning frowned slightly.

He didn't expect this guy to be a cultist.

Nie Ning increased his battle energy again, making the flames burn more intensely, and then, under Nie Ning's gaze, the Black-Armored Person slowly turned into a pool of black water.

"What kind of bullshit god? I didn't see any god protecting you from death."

Looking at the black water on the ground, Nie Ning pursed his lips and muttered to himself.

Gods were not ethereal existences in this world; in fact, there were many churches in the Wilbes Republic.

Church members obtained Transcendent power from gods, but they almost never did anything to harm people.

Nie Ning had a good impression of the churches in Ska City.

The reason was simple: regardless of whether there were any schemes behind them, at least the church members truly contributed money and effort to take care of the impoverished.

If he had encountered church people first back then, Nie Ning might have chosen to become a church staff member.

However, besides normal churches, there were some cults that used living beings as sacrifices, and many terrorist attacks were related to those cults.

"The God of Nales?"

Nie Ning scratched his head; he didn't seem to have heard of this name before.

But judging from the Black-Armored Person's condition and its act of hiding here, it was likely that this god named Nales was not a good bird either.

Suddenly, Nie Ning frowned and looked to his left.

The morning mist was gradually dissipating, and before he knew it, another dark shadow had appeared.

Nie Ning rolled his eyes inwardly.

This 'Malice Perception' was too unreliable; it was so close yet he hadn't detected the other's presence, and it had happened twice at the same time.

Perhaps the Black-Armored Person was protected by a god; could this one be the same?

Thinking of this, Nie Ning couldn't help but grip his longsword tighter.

Although his battle energy had been greatly consumed in the previous fight, he had already tested the bottom line of the black-clothed person; as long as the opponent's strength was similar to the previous Black-Armored Person, he might still have a chance to kill it in one strike.

"Don't worry, I have no malice."

The person walked out of the mist and raised his hand to signal that he had no malice.

At this moment, Nie Ning saw the person's appearance clearly.

A male of about thirty, with golden curly hair, wearing a standard set of silver armor, with a sturdy build at least two meters tall.

"Let me introduce myself, my name is Raimond, a garrison knight of the City Lord's Mansion, and also one of the escorts for this batch of supplies."

The blonde man smiled slightly and introduced himself.

Hearing this, Nie Ning was stunned for a moment, then remembered the knight in the convoy who had never appeared before.

No wonder Malice Perception hadn't worked; now that he thought about it, it wasn't necessarily that Malice Perception had a problem.

"Fox."

Nie Ning said indifferently.

However, even though Raimond had no malice, it didn't mean Nie Ning didn't have ill intentions.

The other party had appeared in this area silently; perhaps the entire previous battle had been seen by him, which was not a good thing for him.

Especially the ability to control fire; this was already his trump card.

But thinking of the other party's identity and the strength he couldn't perceive, Nie Ning ultimately chose not to make a move.

"Let's go back together; it's a good chance to chat."

Raimond smiled and made a gesture of invitation.

"Wait a second."

After saying that, Nie Ning began to loot the corpse.

Unfortunately, he didn't find anything useful, only some scattered money, and Nie Ning couldn't help but feel a little disappointed.

But thinking about it, it was normal; after all, how could a normal person carry secret manuals or anything like that on them? Even Nie Ning himself would find a place to hide them.

Seeing no gains, Nie Ning could only helplessly follow Raimond back.

...

Along the way, Raimond seemed very interested in Nie Ning, constantly trying to pry out Nie Ning's identity information.

Hearing this, Nie Ning breathed a sigh of relief.

At least the other party shouldn't have been there for a long time; he probably hadn't seen him use the Hervis Family techniques, and maybe hadn't even seen the fire ability.

During the chat, Nie Ning learned some information about the God of Nales.

It was said to be an emerging cult, whose members would take something called a black water potion, which would grant the user powerful and eerie self-healing abilities.

But correspondingly, human genes would also change, turning them into a different kind of creature distinct from humans.

And the goods they were transporting on this trip were actually related to this matter.

The black water potion might be a good thing for a Transcendent, but it was not so friendly to ordinary people.

The black water potion was accompanied by a plague-like transmission mechanism.

When ordinary people came into contact with the black water potion, large areas of black spots would appear on their bodies, and then it would slowly corrode the human body, causing sores that oozed black pus.

In Raimond's description, the final way of death was a bit like how the Black-Armored Person died, both turning into a pool of black pus.

What was more serious was that the black water was transmissible!

And it already involved gods; if left unchecked, it would only lead to more serious consequences.

Fortunately, the Transcendent world had Transcendent ways of dealing with it.

Currently, the entire Poyi Town had been blockaded, and the goods they were transporting this time were actually items to treat the 'blackwater disease'.

Because the City Lord's Mansion didn't want the matter to spread, they didn't directly send personnel to escort it, and there was also an intention to avoid the Nales Church.

But now it seemed that the Nales Church had obviously realized this.
