152: Chapter 152 Vermilion Bird vs. Blood Scale
Facing the blood-red pillar of light that carried a world-destroying power, Jiang Changge did not even use his xuanchen whisk.
He merely raised his left hand, pressed his index and middle fingers together, and lightly swiped through the Void Realm.
A pale golden light barrier condensed out of thin air in front of him, as thin as a cicada's wing.
Yet when that blood-red pillar, capable of destroying an entire city, crashed into the light barrier, it was like a stream flowing into the vast ocean, silently sinking into it and vanishing without a trace.
Venerable Lingyun's pupils contracted slightly.
Although he hadn't used his full strength in that strike, he had still exerted seventy percent of his power. Even a powerhouse at the Peak of the Half-Step Immortal realm could not have deflected it so effortlessly.
"Interesting."
Jiang Changge murmured softly, the corners of his mouth curving upward slightly. This was his first true battle, and he did not want it to end too quickly.
After all, he needed someone to test the fruits of his several months of comprehending the Dao.
Venerable Lingyun happened to be a decent opponent.
Jiang Changge put away his xuanchen whisk, and ten pale golden specks of Law light emerged around him, slowly rotating like stars.
Time, space, Yin and Yang, the Five Elements...
The ten specks of light represented ten Great Dao Laws, flowing and intertwining around him, making him look like a deity stepping out of the Great Dao.
"Come."
Jiang Changge spoke, his voice not loud, yet carrying an irresistible rhythm.
"Let me see how long you can hold out."
Venerable Lingyun's face turned ashen; he had never encountered such an opponent.
Ten Great Dao Laws swirling around one's body at the same time—what kind of concept was that?
Having lived for tens of thousands of years, he had seen countless stunningly brilliant geniuses, yet none had ever been able to comprehend so many Laws simultaneously.
"Playing tricks!"
Venerable Lingyun growled through gritted teeth, his hands frantically forming hand seals before him.
The bloody light surged violently as countless dark-red runes poured from his palms, weaving into a massive blood-red net in the Void Realm that swept toward Jiang Changge.
Runes flowed across the massive net, emitting a suffocating Power of Devouring.
This was another Divine Ability within Floating in the Sea of Blood—the Blood Net Heavenly Snare!
Once ensnared by it, one's Divine Soul would be eroded by the Power of Devouring and their essence blood drained, making it even more insidious than the sea of blood.
Looking at the blood-red net blanketing the sky, Jiang Changge raised his right hand and lightly tapped his index finger in the Void Realm.
A beam of light burst from his fingertip, containing the dual Laws of time and space. Wherever it passed, a visible crack was left in the Void Realm—the mark of space and time being torn apart.
The instant the silver-white light collided with the blood-red net, the bloody runes on the net began to dim and shatter, and the entire net started to turn into nothingness, inch by inch, from its center.
Venerable Lingyun's expression changed drastically. He could feel that the power of the Law of Time and Space contained within that light had not only torn apart his Blood Net Heavenly Snare, but was also eroding the circulation of his spiritual energy.
His hands began to slow down, as if time were passing at an accelerated rate for him.
"The Law of Time and Space."
Venerable Lingyun gritted his teeth and retreated rapidly, while his hands traced blood-red arcs in front of him in an attempt to gather his offensive forces once more.
Jiang Changge did not pursue. He stood where he was, and a few more specks of Law light appeared around his body.
He had comprehended thousands of Great Daos, and only through actual combat could he truly understand their power.
Venerable Lingyun's expression grew increasingly grim. This Lord of Kunlun's strength was unfathomable; with every exchange, a few more specks of Law light would appear around him, and his aura would grow a fraction stronger.
He could delay no longer. Venerable Lingyun galvanized all the remaining spiritual energy in his body, his hands tracing profound arcs in front of him.
The bloody light surged, condensing into the massive phantom of a blood-red Vicious Beast around him.
The beast resembled a Qilin but was far more ferocious, its entire body covered in dark-red scales. Fangs bristled in its bloody maw, and its eyes, like two blood moons, radiated a terrifying, savage light.
"Blood Qilin Devouring the Heavens!"
Venerable Lingyun barked sharply and thrust his hands forward.
The phantom of the blood-red Vicious Beast let out a deafening roar, opened its bloody maw, and lunged at Jiang Changge.
Wherever the Vicious Beast passed, the Void Realm shattered and the sky and earth changed color. Its malevolent aura caused all living beings within a ten-thousand-mile radius to tremble in fear.
Looking at the lunging blood-red Vicious Beast, a flicker of interest flashed in Jiang Changge's eyes.
The power of this strike was indeed quite a bit stronger than before.
He opened his five fingers, and a ball of blazing fire emerged in his palm.
The flame was crimson-gold, containing the Law power of the Nanming Li Fire. It was one of the Divine Abilities he had comprehended from the Off-Ground Flame Light Flag during his meditation—Li Fire Burning the Heavens.
The crimson-gold flame erupted from his palm, transforming into a blazing Vermilion Bird. With its wings spread wide enough to blot out the sun, it flew to meet the blood-red Vicious Beast.
The Vermilion Bird and the Blood Qilin collided in the Void Realm, erupting in a deafening roar.
The entire world shook violently at that moment. Mountains within a ten-thousand-mile radius collapsed and shattered from the shockwave, the earth cracked, and rivers flowed backward.
The flames and the bloody light eroded and annihilated each other, forming a magnificent yet terrifying picture in the Void Realm.
The Vermilion Bird's flames scorched the Blood Qilin's scales with a sizzling sound, while the Blood Qilin's sharp claws tore at the fiery Phoenix's wings, sending sparks flying across the sky.
The two forces locked in a stalemate for several breaths of time before a victor was finally decided.
The Vermilion Bird's flames suddenly surged, completely swallowing the Blood Qilin.
The blood-red Vicious Beast let out a shrill wail as its body rapidly melted in the crimson-gold flames, dissolving into wisps of black smoke.
Venerable Lingyun was forced back several steps by the backlash, spraying a mouthful of blood.
He raised his head and stared fixedly at Jiang Changge, his eyes filled with utter disbelief.
Even a Peak Half-Step Immortal of the same level would not dare to take his Blood Qilin Devouring the Heavens head-on, yet Jiang Changge had neutralized it with a casual move.
What drove him to even greater despair was that he could not tell at all how much effort Jiang Changge had actually put in.
The specks of Law light around Jiang Changge had now increased to over twenty.
Venerable Lingyun gritted his teeth, a flash of resolve passing through his eyes.
He knew that if he did not fight with his life on the line now, he would truly die here today.
Burning all the remaining spiritual energy in his body and using his essence blood as a medium, he activated a forbidden Divine Ability that he had never used before.
Bloody light soared into the sky from his body, turning into a churning, blood-red sea of clouds in the Void Realm.
Within the sea of clouds, countless distorted faces writhed and roared—these were the resentful souls of the countless Cultivators he had devoured over tens of thousands of years, all released at once.
"Myriad Souls Devouring the Divine!"
Venerable Lingyun's voice was hoarse and frenzied as he slammed his palms together.
Within the blood-red sea of clouds, countless resentful souls turned into streaks of dark-red light, lunging toward Jiang Changge in a sky-blotting swarm.
Not only could those resentful souls erode the Divine Soul, but they could also tear open tiny spatial rifts in the Void Realm, making them incredibly difficult to defend against.
Looking at the sky-blotting swarm of resentful souls, Jiang Changge frowned slightly, feeling a deep aversion to this aura.
He raised his right hand, and a ball of golden light emerged in his palm.
The light contained the power of the Laws of Life and Death; life and death, destruction and creation—two completely opposite forces perfectly fused in his palm, forming a power of the Great Dao that transcended mortality.
"Samsara of Life and Death."
Jiang Changge murmured those four words, and the golden light in his palm suddenly surged, spreading out in all directions.
Wherever the golden light passed, the lunging resentful souls seemed to freeze in place, completely motionless.
Immediately after, their bodies began to grow transparent, and the madness and malice in their eyes gradually dissipated, replaced by a serene peace of liberation.
Within the golden light, the faces of those resentful souls were no longer hideous. They bowed slightly toward Jiang Changge, then turned into specks of spiritual light, dispersing into the world.
