11: Night attack on the transfer station

"Tsk tsk... how many resources must this be?"

Li Xiao couldn't help but lick his lips. If he could secure this batch of supplies, then the thousand-plus resources needed to upgrade his base to Level 3 would be no problem at all.

"Commander, are you planning to raid this place? It's only about ten kilometers from the Xi City front line. If Imperial forces reinforce and encircle us, the consequences would be unimaginable!"

Zhao Feipeng looked at Li Xiao's eager expression with some nervousness.

"Don't worry, I'm not that arrogant. I only have less than a squad's worth of firepower with you guys, so I won't go head-on."

"But..." Li Xiao stroked his chin, "we can still cause some destruction and collect some bounties along the way."

"Does Commander have any ideas?"

Li Xiao patted Zhao Feipeng's shoulder, "I said, can you guys stop calling me Commander from now on? It's awkward."

"Then what should we call you?"

"Call me Boss, that's catchier!" Li Xiao said without hesitation.

"Uh... it seems a bit irregular..."

Li Xiao turned to Di Yun and said, "Go tell Yang Chao to make a trip to Wu Feng Town and have him return to the base this afternoon. Just say I have a mission for him."

"Yes!"

Yang Chao was the newly recruited Army Infantry. Of course, running errands like this had to be done by the newcomer.

"Sigh, where can I get a radio? Communicating by running errands is too troublesome."

Before long, it was already broad daylight. Li Xiao led everyone back to the base.

Coincidentally, they encountered a wild deer on the way. Li Xiao, who hadn't eaten fresh meat in a long time, immediately had Zhao Feipeng take it down.

After the wild deer was cleaned up by everyone, it was directly roasted over a fire. Since there were no seasonings like salt or chili powder, Li Xiao had to brush it with the broth from canned beef.

This barely managed to cover the gamey taste of the venison. The four of them ate a third of it on the spot, and the rest was left for Ye Ming and the others who were still collecting resources in Wu Feng Town.

While waiting for Ye Ming, Li Xiao checked the base's status. Upgrading to a Level 3 base required 500 points each of fuel and steel, and 100 points of rare ore. With his current resources plus what Ye Ming and Jiang Lang had, they should be able to gather everything by tomorrow.

To be honest, this pace was a bit slow. He saw in the national channel that some big players were teaming up with many other players to directly push through the Black Hawk Empire's strongholds, and the material resources came in quite quickly.

Although the spoils of war were shared and the casualty rate was high, the huge profits made it worthwhile.

Closing the information panel, Li Xiao felt a sudden increase in pressure. In fact, this was just like the supporting characters in those cultivation novels; as long as your strength isn't strong, you're just the protagonist's experience points. He didn't want to be experience points, so he could only fight desperately, even if it meant being a villain for ten thousand years.

In the afternoon, Ye Ming, Jiang Lang, and Yang Chao, who had gone to deliver the message, returned to the base together. Li Xiao designed a sneak attack plan based on the situation at the Transit Yard.

"To avoid exposing our attack direction, this time we will bypass the Transit Yard and enter from the southwest."

Li Xiao pointed at the machine gunner, Zhang Shuang, and said, "Zhang Shuang and Di Yun will be one group, responsible for supporting Zhao Feipeng and Ye Ming's infiltration team. Jiang Lang and Yang Chao will stay with me on standby, ready to provide flank cover for retreat at any time. Does everyone understand!"

"Understood!"

Everyone responded in unison.

As night fell, Li Xiao and his group of seven returned to the reconnaissance location from earlier today. The deployment within the Transit Yard was largely consistent with what they observed at dawn.

The only difference was that the patrol teams had increased to three, with nearly half of the troops patrolling inside and outside the Transit Yard.

"This could be a bit troublesome..."

Three patrol teams constituted half of the Transit Yard's garrison. It seemed this company was operating on a half-strength rotation, with three other individuals likely resting in the barracks to the east.

"Proceed with the original plan!"

Since they had already come all this way, Li Xiao didn't want to leave empty-handed. So, Zhao Feipeng led them to continue circling to the southwest side.

Behind a dirt slope 150 meters from the Transit Yard's protective netting, Zhao Feipeng once again took out his low-light night vision device.

This time, Li Xiao actually saw that the Transit Yard's garrison had set up hidden sentries on the east and north sides. The position where they had been staying was only a few tens of meters from the hidden sentries, and a few more steps forward would have surely led to their discovery.

"Damn, are these Imperial forces defending so tightly?"

Li Xiao felt a chill down his spine. If they were discovered by the hidden sentries, he would be hunted down by hundreds of people.

"Look! The lights are on!"

Zhao Feipeng, who had been monitoring the situation inside the Transit Yard, suddenly lowered his voice. Li Xiao looked up and indeed saw that several searchlights around the Transit Yard's freight yard had all been turned on, and the Transit Yard instantly became as bright as day.

"A transport convoy must have arrived!" Zhao Feipeng guessed.

Sure enough, ten minutes later, vehicle lights flickered on the dirt road east of the Transit Yard, and more than a dozen military trucks drove over. The garrison opened the gate and let the entire convoy in.

At this moment, the Transit Yard suddenly became lively. All the Imperial Soldiers from the barracks ran out and began unloading goods from the trucks with the personnel accompanying the transport team.

The goods on the trucks were the same as the stacked wooden crates and oil drums in the freight yard before. Some were marked as food, while others were directly labeled with various types of ammunition.

There were about eleven or twelve trucks of these supplies, and the following five trucks were all transporting fuel.

"Good heavens, what a haul!"

Li Xiao drooled at the sight. He didn't think of anything else, but those ammunition alone would probably be enough for Li Xiao to earn the resources for a Level 4 base.

After two hours of unloading, the transport convoy regrouped and departed. The lights of the Transit Yard slowly extinguished, leaving only three or four searchlights for illumination.

And the patrol teams resumed their patrols.

"It seems that sneaking in will be very difficult; we must find another way!"

After thinking carefully for a while, Li Xiao decided to cancel the original plan because he had come up with an even better idea.

"Let's go, we'll circle back to the eastern road!"

The group arrived near the eastern road. At this point, they could see vehicle lights flashing intermittently on the road, and occasionally, armored vehicles equipped with satellite antennas would pass by.

"This doesn't seem to be the road east of our base, but another one!"

Li Xiao could tell from the traffic flow. His road should be a secondary route, and this road in front of them was the main thoroughfare.

As they spoke, another wheeled infantry fighting vehicle passed by. At this time, they could vaguely hear the distant rumble of artillery, indicating that the battle in Xi City was quite intense.

"This is the strength of the 'System Faction'!" Li Xiao's eyes were filled with envy.

Quickly, they moved to about a kilometer ahead of the dirt road entrance to the Transit Yard. Then, Li Xiao told Zhao Feipeng to go scout, and everyone else entered a state of ambush.

Around 1 AM, about two hours later, Zhao Feipeng rushed back, reporting that another transport convoy was approaching.

Li Xiao turned to Ye Ming and Jiang Lang and said, "You two quickly lay down the anti-riot spikes, move fast!"

"Yes!"

Two two-meter-long anti-riot spikes were continuously laid on the oncoming lane, and then everyone withdrew from the road.

A few minutes later, seven transport trucks drove up. As they were approaching the fork in the road, the vehicles began to slow down.
