18: Professional ambushes

“Alright, this is the spot. Bury half of the C4 explosives we brought, keeping the front and back length within a fifty-meter radius!”

“Yes!”

The C4 explosives were rated at 2,000 damage, and the enemy’s off-road vehicles were also 2,000. Vans might be a bit higher.

One C4 explosive could take out an off-road vehicle, but with four or five planted in parallel, even an armored vehicle would be in serious trouble.

While Ye Ming was frantically digging and burying mines, Li Xiao had Zhao Feipeng move forward to observe.

Half an hour later, Liu Nian sent good news: he had eliminated four Engineers without injury and had taken control of the steel mill’s production personnel.

“Then, it’s highly likely they’ll reach the ambush point within ten to twenty minutes. You all need to come over for reinforcements immediately!”

After replying to Liu Nian, Li Xiao quickly turned to urge Ye Ming to speed up the planting of the explosives.

Sure enough, just over ten minutes later, Zhao Feipeng retreated. He had already seen the Tian Chao Squad speeding towards their location, with five off-road vehicles approaching.

“Everyone, spread out and ambush on both sides, prepare for battle!”

Everyone scrambled into the bushes on both sides and lay down, not daring to lift their heads.

A short while later, the rattling sound of wheels crushing gravel and the dull roar of engines could be heard from a distance.

The Tian Chao Squad’s convoy quickly appeared in Li Xiao’s sight. As expected, the curved road where they set the ambush forced the lead vehicle to slow down, bringing the entire convoy’s speed down to forty kilometers per hour.

However, there was a troublesome issue: to make the blast zone more concentrated, Li Xiao had only arranged for Ye Ming to cover a fifty-meter distance, but now the distance between these five vehicles already exceeded fifty meters.

“What should we do, boss? The explosives won’t cover them all!”

Ye Ming, unsure of what to do, quickly asked Li Xiao, who was beside him.

“No choice. Try to get the convoy as far into the blast zone as possible. Everyone else, prepare your grenades!”

Ten-odd seconds later, the lead vehicle was about to drive out of the blast zone, and there were still two vehicles outside the ambush range. Ye Ming had no choice but to press the detonator.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! ! ! ! ! !

Deafening explosions pierced through the forest, spreading in all directions. Sand and rocks flew amidst the thick smoke, striking the tree trunks on both sides of the road. Explosives near the edge even shattered smaller pine and cypress trees.

Three off-road vehicles were instantly blasted into scrap metal by the continuous shockwaves. All personnel inside were killed on the spot, and one vehicle was even blown upside down, engulfed in flames, its occupants’ bodies flung to the roadside.

“Brake quickly, back up!”

Luo Feng had just been thinking of riddling the people who ambushed him with bullets once they reached the steel mill, when suddenly the vehicles in front of him erupted into a sea of fire. Startled, he hurriedly ordered the driver to brake.

But how could they react in time with only twenty to thirty meters of distance? The driver slammed the brakes all the way down, barely managing to stop just before the rear of the vehicle in front.

Just as the driver was about to shift into reverse, Luo Feng saw several black spherical objects thrown from the bushes by the roadside. Almost instinctively, he flung open the car door, ran back a few steps, and dropped to the ground.

Less than two seconds later, several grenades exploded simultaneously. Only three people managed to jump out of the car; the rest, along with the vehicle, were engulfed in a fireball.

Hot pebbles splattered on Luo Feng’s back. With a grim face, he pulled out his pistol to retaliate, but before he could even get up, a barrage of dense bullets from Di Yun and Zhang Shuang rained down on him.

Seeing this, Luo Feng desperately rolled, tumbling directly into the roadside grass. At the same time, the last van also stopped not far away.

Seven people quickly jumped out of the van and immediately returned fire, using the vehicle and tree trunks on both sides as cover.

Li Xiao secretly regretted at this moment that his lack of combat experience had turned what should have been an ambush into an evenly matched gunfight.

He opened Di Yun’s information panel and added all 2,400 points from killing three Tian Chao Squad players and eighteen soldiers to him.

“Come on! Today, I’ll see if you have more bullets, or if I’m tough enough!”

Seeing his health increase again, Di Yun knew what his boss meant. He called Zhang Shuang to follow him, and the two charged along the gravel road.

“You’re asking for death!”

Their actions naturally didn’t escape Luo Feng’s eyes. Seeing that Di Yun dared to approach with only two people, he immediately ordered everyone to focus fire on them.

In an instant, bullets rained down like a storm, but due to the cover of the bushes and Di Yun and Zhang Shuang’s various dodges, not many hit their mark.

However, Luo Feng quickly noticed something was wrong, because he had seen Di Yun’s bulletproof vest get hit at least seven or eight times. By all accounts, he should have been dead already.

But the opponent showed no sign of fear, charging forward relentlessly, constantly closing the distance between them.

“A Private First Class should be dead by now! Is he a Corporal?”

Luo Feng became increasingly surprised. Even the machine gunner behind him had taken three or four bullets and still wasn’t dead.

“How is this possible! A Black Hawk Empire Major only has one thousand health! Could someone have leveled up to Major or even Lieutenant Colonel so quickly?”

While Luo Feng was still shocked by Di Yun’s health, the two of them had already charged close. Zhang Shuang raised his squad machine gun and unleashed a furious spray of bullets, forcing everyone to keep their heads down.

Under Zhang Shuang’s suppression, Di Yun easily broke through the Tian Chao Squad’s firing line. His assault rifle rattled, taking down two people on the spot.

“Throw grenades quickly! Blow them up!”

Luo Feng, unable to lift his head due to the machine gun fire, screamed hysterically. Several grenades were then thrown from the van and across the road, but at this moment, Di Yun paid no attention to the grenades, still charging forward, attempting to engage the enemies behind the van in close-quarters combat.

Two close-range grenades exploded, taking away nearly a thousand of Di Yun’s health, but in return, Di Yun unleashed an even fiercer barrage of bullets.

With Di Yun and Zhang Shuang causing such a distraction, the remaining Tian Chao Squad members couldn’t possibly pay attention to anyone else. Zhao Feipeng seized this opportunity and led the rest of the team to press forward.

The Tian Chao Squad was caught in crossfire from nearby and both sides of the road, leaving them nowhere to hide. Soldiers fell one after another, but Luo Feng still showed no intention of turning to flee. Instead, he became even more frantic, continuously throwing grenades at Zhang Shuang and Di Yun.

But these two were not statues; dodging left and right, the grenades caused no substantial damage.

Di Yun eliminated the last enemy behind the van and was about to press Luo Feng further when the van’s sliding door was suddenly pulled open from the inside, and a large-caliber pistol was pressed against Di Yun’s side waist.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! ! !

Five consecutive shots, each dealing over fifty points of damage. Di Yun’s health dropped below two thousand.

Di Yun, wounded, turned his head to see the ponytail girl who had been leaning next to Luo Feng the previous night. At this moment, she was looking at Di Yun with terror, her pink lips agape.
