121: The suppression power of armed helicopters
The two rounds on the ground exploded near the crowd; they seemed to have hit some people, but they definitely did not hit that Major General.
"It's over! We missed!"
Li Xiao's heart sank. He turned to Company Commander Chang and said, "Company Commander Chang, we missed. Let's retreat!"
"Retreat if you want! My mission is to take out the target at all costs!"
After saying this, Chang Zhan and the ten special forces members behind him took off their gear and raised their rifles, clearly preparing to charge.
Li Xiao took another look at the airport. By now, it was swarming with the Black Hawk Unit, at least two or three hundred people.
"Brother! I'll give up the mission reward if I have to.
Listen to me, while their armored units haven't arrived yet, we can still make a quick escape! Hey... what are you doing!"
Before Li Xiao could finish, Chang Zhan had already led his unit toward the barbed wire fence at the airport perimeter.
"Damn it! What a bunch of lunatics!"
Li Xiao cursed under his breath and turned to tell Ling Chao to lead the men away, but seeing the figures of Chang Zhan and his men flickering under the searchlights, he hesitated.
"Damn it! I'll risk my life to accompany these lunatics!"
Li Xiao gritted his teeth and said to everyone, "Let's go! Charge!"
Chang Zhan and his men were fast. They quickly cut a large hole in the barbed wire, and the dozen or so men scrambled through, opening fire on a group of officers fleeing toward the hangar, immediately taking down several of them.
However, as soon as they opened fire, the surrounding units swarmed toward them, but Chang Zhan didn't care about whether they could escape; he pressed the pursuit.
By the time Li Xiao and his men arrived, Chang Zhan had already charged into the hangar, and a large number of the Black Hawk Unit had surrounded the helicopter hangar.
And in the distance, the sound of armored vehicles could already be heard.
"It's over! They've got us like turtles in a jar!"
"Boss, are we going in?!"
"Go! We have to go!"
If Chang Zhan died, then this trip would have been for nothing.
He said to Ling Chao, "Go find a way to get a vehicle, we need to find a way to make a charge!"
"A vehicle? Do you think those will work?"
Ling Chao pointed into the distance, where two Griffin Armed Helicopters, which had just landed with the Hind transport helicopters, were parked.
"Haha! You're a genius! Let's go!"
Li Xiao was overjoyed to see the two Griffin Armed Helicopters, especially when he saw the rocket launchers and anti-tank missiles mounted under the helicopter wings, as well as the nose-mounted autocannon; he felt his adrenaline spike immediately.
The two helicopter pilots had already left after landing, and everyone in the Shadow Special Forces possessed land and air vehicle piloting skills; flying an armed helicopter was basic training for them.
The group arrived at the Griffin Armed Helicopters, and Ling Chao successfully opened the cockpit canopy of one of the helicopters via the handrail.
Since the Griffin was a heavy helicopter that required two pilots to operate, Ling Chao and three others boarded the helicopters.
Li Xiao habitually went to open the information panels of these two Griffin Armed Helicopters, wanting to add durability points, but found that the information showed both planes were in a hijacked state and could not be modified.
With no other choice, Li Xiao had to retreat outside the barbed wire with Yue Ge, who was responsible for protecting him.
As soon as the two Griffin Armed Helicopters started up, the tremendous noise from the engines immediately drew the attention of the units around the hangar, but unexpectedly, no one from the Black Hawk Unit fired at them.
"What's going on?" Li Xiao was surprised to find that the Black Hawk Unit was still focusing all its attention on the surrounded hangar.
"It's likely that the Captain and his men were mistaken for friendly pilots taking off for emergency support, which is why they didn't open fire."
Just then, four infantry fighting vehicles arrived at the hangar, the Black Hawk infantry cleared a path, and four autocannons began firing wildly into a corner of the hangar.
Judging by the gunfire inside the hangar, it seemed that Chang Zhan's unit was already in a standoff with those officers, but with such fierce firepower, Chang Zhan and his men were likely in grave danger.
Seeing this, the Griffin Armed Helicopters piloted by Ling Chao and the others fired an anti-tank missile each before they even took off.
These two missiles, trailing dazzling white exhaust, instantly crossed the two-hundred-meter distance and struck two of the infantry fighting vehicles on the spot.
The power of these two anti-tank missiles was clearly stronger than the TOW missiles carried by the AMX; the massive armor-piercing lethality directly separated the turrets from the chassis of the infantry fighting vehicles, and the exploding fragments scattered in all directions, killing dozens of nearby soldiers instantly.
Only then did the Black Hawk Unit realize that their Griffin Armed Helicopters had been hijacked; this was a very terrifying signal, and the remaining two infantry fighting vehicles immediately turned their autocannons and adjusted their aim to fire at Ling Chao and the others.
Seeing the tracer shells flying through the night sky, Ling Chao pushed the elevator to the limit, the engines erupted with a terrifying roar, and the RPM instantly exceeded the standard load.
Even so, the takeoff and ascent of a heavy armed helicopter were very slow; several autocannon shells struck both helicopters in succession, and the aircraft, which only had 20,000 durability points, lost a third of their health in an instant.
However, Ling Chao reacted quickly. Once the helicopter had gained full lift, he banked sharply, and the fuselage immediately escaped the autocannon's trajectory; the other Griffin Armed Helicopter did the same.
Since these infantry fighting vehicles did not have automatic fire control systems and required the gunners to manually track targets, the gunners who had lost their targets hurriedly adjusted their aim to fire again.
But it was already too late. The airborne Griffin Armed Helicopters immediately performed a centripetal turn maneuver, aiming their noses at the infantry fighting vehicles once more.
This time, two more anti-tank missiles were fired, directly popping the lids off the infantry fighting vehicles like tin cans.
But it didn't end there. Ling Chao switched the weapon mode to the rocket launcher, and the next second, he pressed the launch button, sending rocket after rocket raining down from high above.
The orange-yellow exhaust trails of these rockets streaked across the night sky, blooming with a brilliant, deadly light, before finally piercing the entrance of the hangar, consigning the hundreds of Black Hawk Empire soldiers surrounding the hangar to a sea of fire.
Following closely was the 23mm autocannon mounted on the nose of the helicopter; the rotary cannon, with a firing rate of up to 1,200 rounds per minute, emptied the 200 rounds in its magazine in just over ten seconds.
The terrifying barrage brought about by the terrifying rate of fire saw those dreadful armor-piercing explosive shells penetrate the bodies of the Black Hawk soldiers and explode instantly, sending body parts flying everywhere; the scene was extremely bloody.
"My goodness... is this the suppressive power of armed helicopters against ground troops?"
The firepower of the Griffin Armed Helicopters cleared the hangar, and by now, no more Black Hawk Unit forces were rushing over; Ling Chao and the other pilot seized this opportunity to land under the cover of the other helicopter, and then charged into the hangar together with Li Xiao and Yue Ge, who had arrived.
Once inside the hangar, the first thing Li Xiao saw was Chang Zhan and his ten special forces members, all lying on the ground behind several broken wooden crates.
And on the other side, beneath the bodies of numerous officers, the Major General was struggling, covered in blood, trying to crawl out from the pile of corpses.
