133: Chapter 133 Revealing the True Face
Ye Xueying bit her lip and spoke up.
"Uncle, could you let Brother Wang take a look first? He hasn't seen Grandfather yet."
Ye Hongqiang glanced at her, then at Wang Yang.
Wang Yang stood beside the hospital bed with his hands in his coat pockets. His face was expressionless, calm and unhurried, like a pool of still water.
He hesitated.
Chen Jingxing laughed, a very soft laugh.
"Xueying, I'm not saying he can't look. It's just that in Grandfather Ye's current condition, he can't handle any more turmoil. Dr. Smith's plan is ready and can start at any time. If you let an... outsider interfere, and something goes wrong, who will take responsibility?"
He stressed the word "outsider" heavily.
Ye Xueying's face turned pale; her lips trembled, and she wanted to say something, but swallowed it back.
Just then, a mechanical voice suddenly rang in Wang Yang's mind.
[Ding! System detected: The target "Smith" has a suspicious identity. This person has no legal medical qualifications, and the provided resume is entirely forged.]
[Simultaneously detected a profit-sharing agreement between target "Chen Jingxing" and "Smith"—if the fraud is successful, Chen Jingxing will receive 40 million yuan. Host is advised to proceed with caution.]
Wang Yang's heart stirred, and the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.
As expected.
He had originally just thought this foreigner had shifty eyes and spoke with little conviction, like a con artist.
He hadn't expected Chen Jingxing to be dirty as well, actually conspiring to scam the Ye family.
He sneered inwardly, raised his head, and looked at Ye Hongqiang. His voice was not loud, but very calm.
"Mr. Ye, I suggest you investigate this thoroughly. Check if this Dr. Smith is really a European expert. It would be better to avoid a mess later. If he can't cure the illness, that's one thing, but I'm afraid he might make Old Master Ye's condition even worse."
Chen Jingxing's smile stiffened.
Dr. Smith's expression also changed; a flash of panic flickered in his blue eyes, but he quickly suppressed it.
Chen Jingxing's expression darkened as he stared at Wang Yang.
"What do you mean by that? Are you saying the person I invited is a fraud?"
Wang Yang looked at him without speaking, the faint smile on his lips suggesting he saw through something.
Dr. Smith also reacted, the panic on his face replaced by anger.
He took a step forward, glared at Wang Yang, and raised his voice a few notches.
"Young man, are you questioning my professionalism? I have practiced medicine in the European medical field for twenty years; what qualifications do you, a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, have to judge me?"
Wang Yang looked at him, his tone unhurried.
"I'm not judging you. I'm just suggesting Mr. Ye look into it. After all, one hundred million is not a small sum, and Old Master Ye's health is certainly not a game."
Chen Jingxing's expression grew increasingly ugly.
He turned to look at Ye Hongqiang.
"Uncle Ye, you don't actually believe him, do you? I paid a high price to bring Dr. Smith over from Switzerland, and I have verified his credentials."
Ye Hongqiang did not speak.
He had spent decades in the Shopping Mall, so he had seen all kinds of people.
The stiffness on Chen Jingxing's face and the panic in Smith's eyes did not escape his notice.
He turned his head to look at Brother Li at the door.
"Xiao Li, go and investigate. Find out exactly what kind of background this Dr. Smith has. Check carefully, including whether there are any dealings between him and Jingxing."
Brother Li nodded and turned to leave the ward.
His footsteps gradually faded away in the corridor.
Chen Jingxing's expression changed completely.
His lips moved, as if he wanted to say something, but he swallowed it back.
He pulled his hand out of his coat pocket, clenched it into a fist, then relaxed it.
The beads of sweat on his forehead became denser, trickling down his temples.
Dr. Smith could no longer keep his composure.
He clutched the black briefcase in his hand, his knuckles turning white.
His blue eyes darted around, daring not to land on anyone.
He glanced furtively at Chen Jingxing; his eyes held pleas for help, panic, and a hint of blame.
Standing to the side, Ye Xueying watched the reactions of the two men, and suddenly realized something.
She looked at Chen Jingxing, a hint of coldness appearing in her eyes.
She had previously only thought that Chen Jingxing was a bit effeminate, but at least he was sincere towards her grandfather.
Now it seemed that was not the case at all.
The ward was so quiet that the beeping of the ECG could be heard, one beat after another, like the drumbeats of a death knell.
In less than ten minutes, Brother Li returned.
He walked up to Ye Hongqiang and whispered a few words.
Ye Hongqiang's expression grew darker and darker, finally turning livid.
He raised his head and looked at Dr. Smith.
"Mr. Smith, European medical expert? Swiss licensed physician? Why can I not find any records of you? You don't even have the most basic medical license."
Dr. Smith's face turned pale; his lips trembled, and he couldn't say a single word.
His hands were shaking, and his briefcase almost fell to the ground.
Chen Jingxing's face also turned pale.
"Uncle Ye, this is impossible... I verified it..."
Ye Hongqiang didn't look at him, but stared at Dr. Smith.
"Speak. Who told you to come? What exactly is the agreement between you and Jingxing?"
Dr. Smith's legs went weak; he took a step back and bumped into the wall.
His voice was trembling.
"I... it was Young Master Chen who told me to come. He said... he said that after it was done, he would give me sixty million, and he would take forty million for himself..."
The ward went silent instantly.
Everyone's gaze landed on Chen Jingxing.
Ye Xueying's tears finally fell; it wasn't from sadness, but from anger.
She looked at Chen Jingxing as if looking at a stranger.
"Chen Jingxing, how... how could you do this? Grandfather has treated you like his own grandson since you were little!"
Chen Jingxing's face flushed red, his lips trembling; he wanted to explain, but couldn't utter a single word.
His hands were shaking, his legs were shaking, and his whole body seemed as if it had been drained of energy.
Ye Hongqiang took a deep breath, his voice as cold as ice.
"Jingxing, the Ye family has treated you well. Is this how you repay us?"
Chen Jingxing opened his mouth.
"Uncle Ye, I... I was just momentarily blinded by greed. I've lost a lot of money in my business recently and urgently needed capital to turn things around. That's why..."
Ye Hongqiang didn't let him finish; he waved his hand.
"You go back first. I will talk to your father about this matter."
Chen Jingxing's face was as pale as paper.
He knew that once he went back, the relationship between the Chen family and the Ye family would be completely severed.
He gritted his teeth, glanced at Ye Hongqiang, then at Ye Xueying, and finally his gaze landed on Wang Yang.
That gaze held hatred, anger, and unwillingness.
He hated Wang Yang for meddling and hated him for exposing his plan.
If it weren't for Wang Yang, the one hundred million would have already been in his hands, and his debts would have been paid off.
Wang Yang stood by the hospital bed, his hands in his coat pockets, his face expressionless.
There was even a faint, almost imperceptible smile at the corners of his mouth.
He looked at Chen Jingxing as if watching a clown.
He had seen plenty of people like this.
Chen Jingxing gritted his teeth and turned to walk out of the ward.
His footsteps gradually faded away in the corridor.
His leather shoes hit the floor tiles, fast and heavy, as if venting something.
Ye Hongqiang gave a wink to Brother Li.
