136: Chapter 136 The Ye Family's Sincerity
The old man waved his hand.
"I know my own body. I feel much better now, even more energetic than before I got sick."
Ye Hongqiang was caught between laughter and tears, but he also felt a sense of relief in his heart.
Just then, the ward door was pushed open.
A middle-aged man walked in, around fifty years old, wearing a dark jacket with his hair neatly combed.
His features were somewhat similar to Ye Hongqiang's, but milder.
He carried a briefcase in his hand, his pace unhurried, as if coming for a routine visit.
The moment he entered, he looked up and saw the old man sitting on the bed with his legs dangling over the edge.
He was holding a young man's hand and speaking.
His footsteps halted, and he froze in the doorway.
The briefcase slipped from his hand, hitting the floor with a dull thud.
He widened his eyes, his mouth slightly agape.
The expression on his face shifted from calm to shock, and from shock to ecstasy.
"Dad, you… how are you sitting up?"
His voice was trembling.
Ye Hongqiang walked over and patted his shoulder.
"Second brother, Dad has woken up. Not only did he wake up, he even stood up."
Ye Hongyuan walked in, his eyes reddening. He went up to the old man, crouched down, and took the old man's hand.
"Dad, you scared me to death…"
The old man reached out and patted his head.
"What are you crying for? Isn't it clear that I'm perfectly fine?"
Ye Hongyuan wiped the corners of his eyes, stood up, and looked at Wang Yang.
"Is this…?"
Ye Xueying walked over and stood beside Wang Yang.
"Dad, this is Wang Yang. He was introduced by Uncle Cao. He is the one who saved Grandfather."
Ye Hongyuan looked at Wang Yang, sizing him up from head to toe, then extended his hand.
"Wang Yang? You are Wang Yang?"
Wang Yang shook his hand.
"Hello, Uncle Ye."
Ye Hongyuan held his hand and shook it vigorously.
"Secretary General Cao Yun mentioned you to me. He said you were young and promising, a fine talent. Seeing you today, it really lives up to his reputation."
Wang Yang smiled.
"Uncle Ye, you flatter me."
Ye Hongyuan released his hand and patted his shoulder again.
"It's not flattery. It's the truth. You saved my father, which makes you a benefactor to the Ye family. If you need any help in Yuntian City in the future, don't hesitate to ask."
Ye Hongqiang also nodded.
"Second brother is right. Little Wang, your affairs are our Ye family's affairs."
Wang Yang smiled but didn't say anything.
The old man leaned against the head of the bed, watching his two sons' attitudes toward Wang Yang.
He also looked at how Ye Xueying was standing next to Wang Yang, and a smile slowly curved the corners of his mouth.
Ye Xueying noticed her grandfather's gaze, blushed, and moved half a step to the side, then moved back.
Ye Hongyuan looked at Wang Yang, becoming more and more satisfied the longer he looked.
"Secretary General Cao Yun said you were steady, and I thought he was exaggerating. Now it seems he didn't say enough."
Ye Hongqiang also nodded.
"Little Wang is truly excellent. So young, yet so capable, and neither arrogant nor impetuous."
The old man spoke up as well.
"Little Wang, you saved this old man's life, and I don't have much to thank you with. If you have any issues in the future, just come find me. The Ye family still carries some weight in Yuntian City."
Wang Yang looked at the three of them, feeling a bit moved.
Three generations of the Ye family: one in politics, one in business, and one old retired soldier who never truly rested.
At this moment, they were all standing before him, speaking words of gratitude.
He smiled.
"Elder Ye, Uncle Ye, please don't be so polite. I only did what I could."
The old man looked at him, his eyes full of approval.
Ye Hongqiang looked at him, nodding inwardly.
Ye Hongyuan looked at him with a smile on his lips.
Ye Xueying stood to the side, her gaze fixed on Wang Yang, unable to look away.
Her eyes were bright, the corners of her mouth turned up, and her fingers were twisting the hem of her clothes; her heart felt like a little deer bumping around inside.
She didn't know what this feeling was, but she just wanted to watch him like this, to keep watching.
Elder Ye shifted his gaze from his two sons to Ye Xueying's face.
Ye Xueying was still staring at Wang Yang, her eyes bright, the corners of her mouth turned up, her fingers twisting her hem.
She looked as if she had been frozen in place.
The old man's lips slowly curved into a smile, and he said nothing.
Ye Hongqiang and Ye Hongyuan also noticed, exchanged a glance, and each understood what was going on.
They chatted about daily life for a while longer.
Ye Hongqiang took a black bank card out of his briefcase, walked over to Wang Yang, and handed it over with both hands.
"Little Wang, this is a small token of our appreciation. There is 50 million in the card; please accept it."
Wang Yang looked at the card but didn't reach for it.
"Uncle Ye, this is too much. I cannot accept it."
Ye Hongqiang stuffed the card into his hand.
"You saved my father's life; what is 50 million? Take it."
Ye Hongyuan also walked over and patted Wang Yang's shoulder.
"Little Wang, if you have any trouble in Yuntian City in the future, just come find me. Whatever I can handle, I will handle for you; whatever I can't, I will find a way to handle for you."
Wang Yang looked at the two of them, feeling a bit moved.
He held the card and didn't decline again.
"Then thank you, Uncle Ye."
Ye Hongqiang smiled.
"What is there to thank? It's only right."
Outside the window, the setting sun tilted westward, and orange light shone in through the window.
It fell upon them, coating the ward in a warm hue.
The old man looked at the clock on the wall, then at Wang Yang.
"Little Wang, it's getting late. Let Ye Xueying take you out for a stroll and grab a bite to eat."
Wang Yang smiled.
"Elder Ye, no need to trouble yourself. I can just eat when I get back."
The old man waved his hand.
"It's no trouble. You are a guest, and you saved this old man's life; if you don't even eat a meal, people will say the Ye family doesn't know how to treat guests."
Ye Xueying lowered her head, her face flushed, her fingers twisting her hem.
Ye Hongyuan glanced at his daughter and smiled.
"Ye Xueying, take your Brother Wang to taste the local specialties of Yuntian City. He traveled a long way, we can't let him go back on an empty stomach."
Ye Xueying looked up, glanced at Wang Yang, then lowered her head again and gave a soft affirmative sound.
Wang Yang no longer declined and nodded.
"Then I'll trouble you, Ye Xueying."
Ye Xueying's face turned even redder. She stood up, picked up her coat from the sofa, put it on, and went to the door to wait.
Wang Yang nodded toward Elder Ye and the two elders.
"Elder Ye, Uncle Ye, I'll take my leave. Call me anytime if there's anything."
The old man waved his hand with a smile.
"Go on, go on. Young people should get out and about more."
The two walked out of the ward, and the door closed softly.
The corridor was very quiet, with only the sound of their footsteps.
Ye Xueying walked beside him, her head lowered, not daring to look at him, her fingers gripping her bag strap until her knuckles turned white.
Wang Yang walked beside her, saying nothing, his hands in his coat pockets, his pace steady.
The two entered the elevator, and the doors closed.
There were only the two of them in the elevator, and the mirrored walls reflected their shadows.
Ye Xueying watched the numbers on the elevator door, jumping from 4 to 3, from 3 to 2, her heart beating faster and faster.
She stole a glance at Wang Yang, then quickly looked away.
Wang Yang spoke up.
"Have you decided what you want to eat?"
Ye Xueying shook her head.
"No… what would you like to eat, Brother Wang?"
Wang Yang smiled.
"Anything is fine. You lead the way."
Ye Xueying nodded, the corners of her mouth curling up.
