21: Chapter 21 Upholding Justice
The bulldozer driver hesitated for a moment, but seeing his boss's fierce glare, he had no choice but to bite the bullet and keep driving forward.
Seeing this, the villagers cried out in alarm, and the scene instantly descended into chaos.
Just then, Xiao Bei suddenly stepped out, blocking the path in front of Qin Ruoxi, and shouted loudly:
"Stop! You are conducting illegal construction. If you take one more step forward, I will call the police!"
Liao Sanjin saw Xiao Bei and gave a disdainful smile:
"Kid, who do you think you are? You dare to block my vehicle? Drive over him!"
The bulldozer driver gritted his teeth and continued to drive forward.
Xiao Bei's heart tightened at the sight, but he didn't retreat. Instead, he pulled out his phone and quickly dialed the police.
"Hello, is this 110? I'm at the entrance of the village in Bishi Town. Someone is carrying out illegal construction and threatening the villagers. Please come immediately!"
Hearing Xiao Bei calling the police, Liao Sanjin's expression changed, and he cursed angrily:
"Kid, you're looking for death!"
After saying that, he waved his hand, signaling his bodyguards to step forward.
The two bodyguards immediately rushed toward Xiao Bei, attempting to snatch his phone.
Seeing the two bodyguards charging, Xiao Bei's eyes narrowed. He quickly stuffed his phone into his pocket, lowered his center of gravity slightly, and assumed a defensive stance.
Although he wasn't a professional martial artist, he had learned Sanda in the past, and his reflexes were quite agile.
The first bodyguard threw a punch straight at Xiao Bei's face. Xiao Bei sidestepped, grabbed the man's wrist, and pulled, using the momentum to make the bodyguard lose his balance and stumble a few steps.
The second bodyguard saw this and kicked toward Xiao Bei's side. Xiao Bei reacted extremely quickly, stepping back half a step to dodge the kick, and immediately countered with an elbow strike that landed squarely on the man's chest.
"Bang!"
The bodyguard let out a muffled groan, clutched his chest, and stumbled back a few steps, his face looking rather grim.
Seeing this, Liao Sanjin's face darkened, as if it could drip water, and he roared:
"Useless trash! You can't even handle a mere brat! What am I paying you for!"
Scolded by their boss, the two bodyguards felt embarrassed and lunged at Xiao Bei again.
This time they didn't underestimate him, attacking Xiao Bei from both left and right.
Although Xiao Bei was skilled, he was outnumbered, and he soon began to struggle to fend them off.
Just as Xiao Bei was being forced to retreat repeatedly, a siren suddenly wailed in the distance.
Several police cars came roaring over and quickly screeched to a halt outside the crowd.
The doors opened, and a dozen police officers quickly stepped out. Leading them was a middle-aged police officer with sharp eyes and an imposing air.
"Everyone, stop!"
The middle-aged officer shouted sternly, his voice booming and instantly bringing the scene under control.
Seeing the police arrive, Liao Sanjin's expression changed slightly, but he quickly returned to his arrogant demeanor.
He walked forward and said with a fake, insincere smile:
"Oh, isn't this Captain Kong? What's this? Are you personally handling such a trivial matter?"
Kong Wenyuan glanced coldly at Liao Sanjin, his tone serious:
"Boss Liao, what is going on here? Why has this become such a big scene?"
Liao Sanjin shrugged, feigning innocence:
"Captain Kong, please don't misunderstand. We are conducting legal construction with all the proper paperwork. These villagers are making trouble unreasonably and even started hitting people. I was just acting in self-defense."
"You're lying!"
The villagers shouted indignantly, "You don't have any paperwork at all, and you're trying to forcibly seize our land!"
Kong Wenyuan frowned and turned to look at Qin Ruoxi and Xiao Bei:
"Who are you?"
Qin Ruoxi stepped forward:
"We came from the city to visit relatives and happened to run into this. The villagers are questioning the land requisition paperwork. Reasonably and rightfully, the developer should show it to everyone, shouldn't they?"
Qin Ruoxi was cautious and did not reveal her true identity. She wanted to see just how corrupt the officialdom in Bishi Town really was!
Liao Sanjin sneered, his tone dripping with sarcasm:
"Captain Kong, listen to that. This woman has quite an attitude. However, I advise you not to meddle in other people's business. After all, we are old acquaintances, aren't we?"
Kong Wenyuan's expression darkened, and his tone became stern:
"Boss Liao, please watch your language! We will handle this matter according to the law. Please cooperate with the investigation."
Seeing that Kong Wenyuan wasn't buying it, Liao Sanjin's face immediately darkened, and he snorted coldly:
"Fine, Captain Kong, you are incorruptible, and I admire that. However, don't forget that Sun Shoucheng, the chief of the Bishi Town Police Station, is an old friend of mine.
Once we get to the station, I'd like to see who can protect these two ignorant fools!"
Hearing this, Kong Wenyuan frowned tightly but said nothing more, merely waving his hand:
"Take everyone back to the station for a detailed investigation!"
The police officers acted quickly, bringing Liao Sanjin, Qin Ruoxi, Xiao Bei, and several villagers into the police cars separately.
Although the villagers were unwilling, no one dared to act out in front of the police.
In the police car, Xiao Bei whispered to Qin Ruoxi:
"Sis, this Liao Sanjin doesn't seem to have a simple background."
Qin Ruoxi smiled slightly, her tone calm:
"I just want to see who is backing him that allows him to be so arrogant!"
The police car slowly drove into the Bishi Town Police Station. The door opened, and Qin Ruoxi and Xiao Bei were led out of the car.
Just as they walked into the lobby of the Police Station, a slightly chubby, greasy-faced middle-aged man hurried up to greet them. It was the Police Station chief, Sun Shoucheng.
"Oh my, Boss Liao, why are you here?"
Sun Shoucheng was all smiles, his tone fawning.
Liao Sanjin snorted coldly and pointed at Qin Ruoxi and Xiao Bei:
"Chief Sun, these two people obstructed my construction and even hit people. You must handle this properly!"
Sun Shoucheng nodded repeatedly:
"Don't worry, don't worry, I will definitely handle this impartially!"
Seeing this, Kong Wenyuan frowned and stepped forward, saying:
"Chief, this matter is a bit complicated. The villagers have questions about the land requisition paperwork. Shouldn't we investigate it clearly first?"
Sun Shoucheng glanced at Kong Wenyuan, his tone cold:
"Listen, Captain Kong, you don't need to worry about this. I will handle it. You go busy yourself with other things."
Kong Wenyuan wanted to say something more, but seeing Sun Shoucheng's impatient look, he could only sigh and turn to leave.
Seeing that Kong Wenyuan had left, Sun Shoucheng's face immediately darkened, and he said coldly to Qin Ruoxi and Xiao Bei:
"You two, come with me!"
Qin Ruoxi and Xiao Bei exchanged a look and followed Sun Shoucheng into an interrogation room.
Sun Shoucheng sat in a chair, crossed his legs, and said with a cold tone:
"Speak up. What are your names? What do you do for a living? Why did you obstruct Boss Liao's construction?"
Qin Ruoxi smiled faintly:
"Chief Sun, we came to visit relatives and just happened to run into this. The villagers are defending their rights. As citizens, I think we have the right to help the villagers uphold justice, don't we?"
Sun Shoucheng sneered:
"Uphold justice? Who do you think you are? You think you're qualified to talk about defending rights?"
Xiao Bei couldn't help but say:
"Chief Sun, that's not right. Everyone is equal before the law. As a law enforcement officer, shouldn't you be upholding the law impartially?"
