87: Chapter 87 Killing Two Birds with One Stone

Xiao Bei slammed on the accelerator, and the vehicle shot toward the destination like an arrow released from a bow.

There were many abandoned factories in the industrial zone, and Xiao Bei gradually narrowed down the range based on the signal strength. Finally, he locked onto a textile factory that had been closed for many years. Outside the factory, two thugs acting as lookouts were boredly smoking and playing with their phones.

Xiao Bei went around to the back of the factory building and found a broken wall. He climbed over silently and moved along the base of the wall. Faint voices could be heard from inside the factory.

"... The boss said to wait another two hours. If there's no movement from The Court, we'll take care of her."

"What a pity, she's quite pretty... It seems she's not the apple of Xiao Bei's eye after all... He didn't even care and went to attend The Court hearing..."

A cold glint flashed in Xiao Bei's eyes as he hid in the shadows, and he pulled a police baton from his waist. He took a deep breath, kicked open the iron door, and rushed inside!

"Who's there?"

The three kidnappers turned around in shock.

Xiao Bei didn't waste any words; his baton struck the wrist of the nearest man like a venomous snake. The man screamed, and his pistol fell to the ground. The other two quickly drew knives and lunged at him. Xiao Bei dodged to the side and struck the second man's throat with an elbow.

Seeing the situation was bad, the third man turned and ran toward the inner room. Xiao Bei leaped and kicked him in the back of the knee, then delivered a hand-blade strike the moment the man hit the ground.

After dealing with the guards, Xiao Bei rushed to the inner room and kicked open the wooden door—Su Yun was tied to a chair with tape over her mouth. The moment she saw Xiao Bei, although she was extremely weak, tears of surprise welled up in her eyes.

"It's okay, I'm here."

Xiao Bei quickly helped Su Yun untie the ropes and gently tore off the tape.

"Secretary... Secretary Xiao..."

Su Yun's voice was hoarse. "They... they are Mou Zhengping's men..."

"I know."

Xiao Bei helped her stand up. "Can you walk?"

Su Yun nodded, but her legs went weak, and she almost fell. Without a word, Xiao Bei scooped her up horizontally: "Hold on tight to me."

Just as they walked out of the inner room, Xiao Bei suddenly felt a sharp pain in his back—the fourth kidnapper had ambushed him from the shadows, and a dagger had slashed across his back!

"Xiao Bei!" Su Yun screamed.

Xiao Bei let out a muffled groan, turned around, and sent the attacker flying with a roundhouse kick. The man crashed into the wall and passed out.

"It's a minor injury, it doesn't matter. While their manpower is still gathered at The Court, let's leave quickly!" Xiao Bei gritted his teeth, but blood had already soaked through his shirt.

Just then, police sirens sounded outside the factory. Xiao Bei's heart tightened—it wasn't the police he had called! Could it be people arranged by Mou Zhengping?

"Hurry!" He pulled Su Yun and ran toward the back door, but froze at the entrance—Lao Dao was blocking the way with five or six thugs, their dark gun barrels pointed directly at them.

"Secretary Xiao, I've heard a lot about you." Lao Dao smiled grimly. "Director Mou asked me to say hello for him."

Xiao Bei shielded Su Yun behind him, his brain working at lightning speed. At this critical moment, the sound of police sirens blared outside the factory, and several police cars surrounded the building.

"Listen, people inside, you are surrounded! Drop your weapons and surrender!"

Conversely, Lao Dao's face changed drastically. "You called the police?"

Xiao Bei sneered. "It wasn't me."

The police raid was sudden and swift. Before Lao Dao and his men could react, heavily armed SWAT officers had already broken through the windows. In the chaos, not knowing if the newcomers were friend or foe, Xiao Bei protected Su Yun and hid behind an old machine.

The gunfire and shouting lasted less than a minute before returning to silence. A familiar voice rang out: "Secretary Xiao? Where are you?"

It was Police Chief Zhao Zhigang! Only then did Xiao Bei walk out with Su Yun. "Over here!"

Police Chief Zhao Zhigang ran over, reporting to Xiao Bei as if they had won a great battle. "The Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection has closed the net! Mou Zhengping and his cronies sent to The Court have all been arrested! They were videotaped destroying evidence during an on-the-spot transaction at The Court! They even tried to silence Xiang Jinlong in their desperation! Plus, with his niece's testimony, the evidence is ironclad!"

Xiao Bei let out a long sigh of relief, only then feeling the burning pain in his back. Su Yun supported him, her eyes full of tears: "You're bleeding..."

"It was worth it."

Seeing this, Police Chief Zhao Zhigang quickly called over the accompanying medical staff. Xiao Bei continued to ask: "Then... what about the person behind Mou Zhengping? Have they continued the interrogation?"

"The Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection immediately interrogated Mou Zhengping. Before they could even ask, he insisted that he had simply lost his mind. Apart from catching Mou Zhengping, Xiang Jinlong, and a few insignificant subordinate officials, there are no traces leading any higher."

Police Chief Zhao Zhigang lowered his voice to report the subsequent progress to Xiao Bei. Xiao Bei was thoughtful but remained silent; as long as Mou Zhengping was put away, it would be enough to keep them quiet for a while.

After the medical staff simply bandaged Xiao Bei, they were escorted into an ambulance. On the way, Su Yun held Xiao Bei's hand tightly: "Does it still hurt?" She then burst into tears.

Xiao Bei gently wiped away her tears: "It's okay, it's all over."

"Sister-in-law, our great Secretary Xiao didn't care about his own safety at all and rushed over to save you!" Secretary Yang Zhigang suddenly added, and the term "sister-in-law" made Su Yun blush. Only then did Xiao Bei realize that he really cared about Su Yun; it seemed to have exceeded the relationship of ordinary friends. Although he would definitely step up to save Mayor Qin if something happened to her, he always felt there was a different feeling in his heart...

After a long and exhausting day, the sunset was already hanging on the horizon when they arrived at the hospital. Fortunately, neither Xiao Bei nor Su Yun needed to be hospitalized, but both needed to go home to recuperate and apply medicine. Upon learning this, Mayor Qin forced Xiao Bei to take 5 days off, forbidding him from appearing anywhere at the unit within those 5 days, and even arranged another residence for him in Beijiang County.

Xiao Bei was planning to personally take Su Yun to her residence, but Su Yun hesitated. "Um... I sold my previous house to pay off my family's debts..." Su Yun appeared a bit embarrassed.

"Come back with me." Xiao Bei knew that the house Mayor Qin had arranged was a two-bedroom apartment, so there was enough room for him and Su Yun. After Su Yun followed Xiao Bei to the residence in Beijiang County, she started to organize their daily necessities. It seemed Su Yun had more belongings, and for a moment, clothes, shoes, and bags occupied an entire room.

They would have to live together to recover from their injuries for at least 5 days, and they also needed to eat; there was no cafeteria here, so they would have to cook for themselves. Just as he was worrying about this, there was a knock at the door.

"Secretary He Mingxuan? Why are you here?" "Deputy Secretary Xing said you were here and asked me to bring you some food and supplies." "Good, put them down. How are things going with the Development Zone in the town?" ...
