70: Chapter 70 A Sudden Incident

"I also didn't expect to be asking for your help in this way."

Xiao Bei gave a wry smile, "Today has truly been awful."

"Oh? Tell me more about it?"

Su Yun leaned forward, her neckline slightly open, revealing a patch of snow-white skin.

Xiao Bei recounted everything that happened during the day, including the matters regarding Chairman Jiang Ruhu and Town Mayor Sun Jiaming, as well as the crisis facing the Development Zone project.

Su Yun listened attentively, nodding from time to time, her slender fingers gently tapping against her red wine glass.

"I understand the type of person Town Mayor Sun Jiaming is."

She curled her lips in contempt, "A typical grassroots bureaucrat who climbed his way up through connections; he has no real ability."

After the red wine arrived, Su Yun took the initiative to pour wine for both of them.

"Come, let's have a toast."

Su Yun raised her glass, her red lips pressed against the rim, leaving a faint lipstick mark.

After a few glasses of wine, Su Yun's cheeks flushed, and her gaze became hazy.

She rested her chin on one hand, while the other hand unconsciously swirled the wine glass, the red wine inside refracting an alluring luster under the lights.

"Do you know?"

Su Yun suddenly spoke, her voice a few shades lower than usual, "I actually really envy you people in politics."

Xiao Bei was somewhat surprised:

"Envy us? Aren't you radio anchors known as the 'uncrowned kings'?"

Su Yun chuckled and shook her head, a few strands of hair falling beside her flushed cheeks:

"That's just superficial glory. The leaders at our station only care about ratings and click counts all day long..."

She suddenly leaned closer to Xiao Bei, her alcohol-scented breath brushing against his ear, "Just like your official circles, it's full of intrigue everywhere."

Xiao Bei unconsciously held his breath.

Up close, Su Yun's eyelashes were long and thick, casting fine shadows under the light.

The faint scent of perfume on her mixed with the aroma of alcohol, creating a peculiar temptation.

"Su Yun, you've had too much to drink."

Xiao Bei said softly, but he had no intention of pulling away.

"I haven't."

Su Yun pouted, this childish gesture forming a sharp contrast with her usual capable image, "My tolerance is very high."

As she spoke, she poured herself another glass.

Xiao Bei reached out to stop her, but accidentally brushed against her fingers.

Both of them were startled for a moment; Su Yun didn't pull her hand back, but instead gently held his fingertips.

"Secretary Xiao."

She looked directly into his eyes, her voice soft, "You know? The first time I met you, I felt that you were different from other officials."

Xiao Bei felt his throat tighten:

"How am I different?"

"You have ideals."

Su Yun's gaze suddenly became serious, "I can tell that you genuinely want to do practical things for the town, unlike those people..."

She made a gesture of disdain, "Who only know how to climb the ladder."

This sentence was like a key, opening a tightly closed door in Xiao Bei's heart.

The frustrations, pressure, and loneliness of this period seemed to be understood at this moment, and he couldn't help but hold Su Yun's hand back.

"Thank you, Su Yun."

He said in a low voice, his tone carrying a tenderness he hadn't even noticed himself.

The restaurant lights gradually dimmed, and a waiter walked over to politely remind them that they were about to close. Only then did Xiao Bei realize it was almost eleven o'clock.

"Let me take you back."

He stood up, only to find Su Yun swaying slightly.

"I'm fine..."

Su Yun waved her hand, but almost bumped into the table.

Xiao Bei quickly steadied her, his palm resting on her bare back, the texture as smooth as silk.

Walking out of the restaurant, the night breeze blew past, and Su Yun unconsciously leaned into Xiao Bei's embrace.

Xiao Bei hailed a taxi and carefully helped her into the car.

"Which hotel are you staying at?"

He asked.

Su Yun reported a name; it was the best four-star hotel in the county town.

In the car, her head unconsciously rested on Xiao Bei's shoulder, the fragrance from her hair lingering at the tip of his nose.

"Xiao Bei..."

She suddenly called him by his given name, her voice laced with drunkenness, "Do you know? I'm actually... very lonely."

Xiao Bei's heart jolted.

The usually radiant and beautiful anchor had now shed all her defenses in front of him, revealing a vulnerable side.

"The work pressure is too great..."

Su Yun continued to murmur, "Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, staring at the ceiling, feeling especially... especially..."

Her voice gradually faded, and Xiao Bei couldn't help but put his arm around her shoulder, offering silent comfort.

The car stopped at the hotel entrance; Xiao Bei paid the fare and half-supported, half-carried Su Yun out of the car.

In the lobby, the receptionist cast a curious glance, and Xiao Bei explained awkwardly:

"Um... my friend has had too much to drink, I'm taking her back to her room."

In the elevator, Su Yun was almost leaning her entire body against Xiao Bei.

Through the thin clothing, Xiao Bei could feel the warmth and curves of her body, and his heartbeat accelerated uncontrollably.

"Where is your room card?"

Arriving at the room door, Xiao Bei asked softly.

Su Yun fumbled hazily in her bag for a while and took out a room card; Xiao Bei took it and swiped it to open the door.

The room was spacious, with the night view of the county town outside the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Xiao Bei supported Su Yun to the bedside, intending to let her lie down, but was suddenly pulled by his tie.

"Don't go..."

Su Yun's eyes were hazy and fiery, her red lips slightly parted, "Stay and keep me company..."

Xiao Bei froze in place, reason and desire clashing fiercely in his mind.

Su Yun's beauty, her understanding nature, and her invitation at this moment made it hard for him to resist.

"Su Yun, you're drunk..."

He tried to remain calm, but his voice was already hoarse.

"I'm not drunk..."

Su Yun suddenly pulled hard, and Xiao Bei lost his balance, his whole body pressing down on her.

Their bodies were closely pressed together, and Xiao Bei could clearly feel a softness.

Su Yun tilted her face up and took the initiative to kiss his lips.

At that moment, Xiao Bei's mind went blank, all his concerns were cast to the nine heavens, and he passionately responded to the kiss, his hands unconsciously stroking her waist.

Ring-ring!

Just as the two were lost in passion, a harsh cell phone ringtone suddenly rang out.

Xiao Bei woke up as if from a dream, struggling to push his body up from Su Yun's, and took out his phone.

The screen displayed the words "Secretary He Mingxuan".

"Hello?"

He answered the phone, his voice still hoarse with desire.

"Party Secretary! It's bad!"

Secretary He Mingxuan's voice was exceptionally anxious, "Something has happened at the Development Zone construction site! Villagers just came to cause trouble and started fighting with the construction team. People are injured, and the situation is completely out of control now!"

Xiao Bei instantly sobered up:

"What? I'll go there right now!"

Hanging up the phone, he looked at Su Yun on the bed, his heart full of conflict.

Su Yun seemed to realize something too, and the haziness in her eyes gradually faded.

"What happened?"

She asked softly.

"There's a conflict at the Development Zone construction site, I have to rush over immediately."
