5: Chapter 5 Transfer of Position
Xiao Bei nodded and said helplessly:
"That's right, Mayor Qin. The current situation is extremely unfavorable for us. If we rashly pursue this, it will only give them leverage, and they might even use it to make a big fuss and ruin your reputation.
Therefore, I suggest you endure it for now and pretend nothing has happened. Once we have gathered enough evidence, we can launch a counterattack."
After listening to Xiao Bei's analysis, a complex emotion flashed through Qin Ruoxi's eyes.
She remained silent for a moment, then sighed softly. Her tone remained cold, but it lacked some of its sharpness.
"What you say makes some sense."
She spoke slowly, her gaze falling on Xiao Bei's face. "However, I will handle this matter myself. You don't need to get involved anymore."
Xiao Bei was stunned for a moment. He opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he just nodded and said respectfully:
"Yes, Mayor Qin. If you need anything, feel free to call on me at any time."
Qin Ruoxi nodded slightly, her tone indifferent:
"Alright, you may go back now."
Xiao Bei didn't say anything more and turned to walk toward the door.
A moment later, Qin Ruoxi walked to the window, took a deep breath, and muttered to herself:
"Xiao Bei... this person is actually quite interesting."
Xiao Bei's performance just now appeared in her mind—sincere, open, and even carrying a hint of stubbornness.
Although he was just a minor staff member, his words were spot on, clearly showing a deep understanding of the situation in Canglan City.
"Perhaps he really can help me."
Qin Ruoxi's heart stirred, and a trace of determination flashed in her eyes.
She walked to her desk, picked up the phone, and dialed a number.
"Hello, Little Li, help me check the file of Municipal Government Office staff member Xiao Bei. The more detailed, the better."
After hanging up, Qin Ruoxi sat back in her chair, crossed her hands on the desk, and her gaze was profound.
"The waters of Canglan City are indeed even deeper than I imagined."
She muttered to herself, a cold sneer tugging at the corner of her lips. "However, since you want to play, I will play along with you to the end!"
Meanwhile, on a sofa inside a luxurious villa on the outskirts of the city sat a slender figure, and opposite him was Director Yan Jinghui of the Municipal Party Committee Office.
"Is it done?"
"It's done, Leader. We have already sent Xiao Bei to her room, and we even took photos."
Director Yan Jinghui respectfully handed an envelope to the man opposite him, his face filled with a fawning smile:
"Everything has been prepared according to your instructions."
The man took the envelope, opened it casually, pulled out a few photos, and glanced at them. A cold, sinister smile curled at the corner of his lips:
"Not bad, they're very clear. Qin Ruoxi... Heh, now we have leverage on her."
Director Yan Jinghui quickly nodded in agreement:
"Exactly, Leader. Qin Ruoxi just arrived in Canglan City and already wants to carry out drastic reforms, completely ignoring us. Now that we have this evidence, let's see if she can still act tough!"
The man sneered, stuffed the photos back into the envelope, and tossed it onto the coffee table:
"Doesn't she want to reform? Let her reform. However, the premise is that she must be obedient. Otherwise... once these photos and videos are leaked, her political career will be completely ruined."
A trace of smugness flashed in Director Yan Jinghui's eyes as he asked in a low voice:
"Leader, what should we do next? Should we directly confront her?"
The man shook his head, his tone carrying a hint of disdain:
"What's the rush? Now is not the time. Qin Ruoxi just arrived, her foundation is unstable. We need to let her jump around for a few days first.
When she thinks she has established a firm footing, we will strike her with a heavy blow. Only then will she understand who is really in charge of Canglan City."
Director Yan Jinghui nodded repeatedly, his face full of admiration:
"Leader is wise! What about Xiao Bei... how should we handle him? He is just a small character after all, but he was involved in last night's events. What if he talks nonsense..."
The man narrowed his eyes, his tone cold:
"Xiao Bei? Hmph, he's just a minor staff member who can't stir up any trouble. However, just in case, find a reason to reassign him and exile him to a peripheral unit, so he stays away from Qin Ruoxi."
Director Yan Jinghui immediately understood and said with a smile:
"Rest assured, Leader, I will take care of it right away. The Archives Bureau happens to be short-staffed. I'll transfer him there to organize those old, dusty files. I guarantee he'll be too busy to meddle in other people's business."
The man nodded with satisfaction, picked up his teacup and took a sip, his tone leisurely:
"Hmm, do it that way. Remember, this matter must be done cleanly and efficiently. Don't let anyone find any leverage."
Director Yan Jinghui quickly responded:
"Yes, Leader! You can rest assured when I handle things!"
The man put down the teacup, looked out the window with a cold gaze, and muttered to himself:
"Qin Ruoxi, oh Qin Ruoxi, you want to clean up the officialdom of Canglan City? How much capability do you think you have? Fighting with me? You better weigh how much you're actually worth!"
The next day, just as Xiao Bei walked into the Municipal Government building, he received a call from one of Director Yan Jinghui's subordinates.
"Xiao Bei, Director Yan wants you to come to his office immediately."
The voice on the other end was very cold, and they hung up immediately after speaking.
Xiao Bei held his phone, his brows furrowed slightly, and a faint sense of unease rose in his heart.
He knew that if Director Yan Jinghui was looking for him, it definitely wouldn't be for anything good.
He took a deep breath, composed himself, and walked toward Director Yan Jinghui's office.
The office door was ajar. Xiao Bei knocked, and Director Yan Jinghui's familiar laughter came from inside.
"Come in, Little Xiao."
Xiao Bei pushed the door open and entered, seeing Director Yan Jinghui sitting behind his desk, holding a cup of tea, with a kind and amiable smile on his face, as if last night's events had never happened.
"Director Yan, did you want to see me?"
Xiao Bei stood at the door, his tone calm, but his eyes carried a hint of vigilance.
"Oh, Little Xiao, don't be so reserved, come in and sit."
Director Yan Jinghui waved with a smile, signaling for Xiao Bei to sit in the chair opposite him.
Xiao Bei hesitated for a moment but still walked over. After sitting down, he looked directly at Director Yan Jinghui, waiting for what he had to say.
"Little Xiao, the meal yesterday was pretty good, right? Let me tell you, those were the top leaders of various Municipal Police Bureaus—they are all top-notch connections!"
Director Yan Jinghui put down his teacup. "However, everyone was drunk last night, and I don't even know when you went home?"
The reason he asked this deliberately was, firstly, to test Xiao Bei's reaction, and secondly, to show off his promotion of him.
Xiao Bei sneered inwardly, but his face remained calm as he responded indifferently:
"I went home after I sobered up last night. Thank you for your cultivation, Director Yan. Compared to you, I still have too much to 'learn'!"
Xiao Bei said sarcastically.
Director Yan Jinghui pretended not to understand, laughed, waved his hand, and said:
"It's good for young people to be humble, but you don't need to belittle yourself. I have seen your capabilities."
He paused deliberately at this point, looking at Xiao Bei with a meaningful gaze.
"So, I intend to give you an opportunity to serve as the Deputy Director of the office at the Archives Bureau. How about it?"
