23: Chapter 23 Is this a Void Stone?!
Old Wang listened, a strange expression appearing on his face.
"You are a high-level official of the branch, after all. Can't you just leave these registration procedures for common grade mages to the staff? Why bother doing it yourself?"
"Never mind, that's not the point."
Old Wang waved his hand, changing the subject, his tone growing increasingly grave.
"You said he went out hunting early this morning and gave you this stone when he returned?"
"That means he hasn't been out of the city for even a day, and his activity range probably isn't too far from the border."
"Do you know what this means?"
Fang Bin remained silent.
But he knew the answer clearly in his heart.
If Chen Ping had truly found this void stone today.
That meant a spatial rift had appeared not far from the border of Baiyun City!
Even a distance of one hundred kilometers.
For a city, it was terrifyingly close!
"Tell me about this Chen Ping in detail."
Old Wang placed the void stone on the table and looked up at Fang Bin.
Fang Bin rubbed his brow, looking troubled.
How much did he really know about Chen Ping?
The other party was taciturn and acted mysteriously; he couldn't see through him at all.
But he still laid out all the information he knew.
"He is covered tightly from head to toe. No one can see through his cultivation level, and he speaks very little."
"Apart from the elemental attributes and the pseudonym registered on his adventurer card, we know nothing about him."
Old Wang said in disbelief.
Fang Bin nodded silently, confirming his words.
The two fell into a brief silence.
A moment later, Old Wang spoke first, his tone grave.
"This matter must be reported to the branch manager immediately."
"A person who can carry a void stone on them is definitely not a nobody."
"He specifically gave this thing to you; I'm afraid he has ulterior motives."
"Yes, I have the same feeling."
Fang Bin echoed.
"His cultivation level is unfathomable, yet he only hunts common grade magical beasts. I suspect he is deliberately keeping a low profile."
The two discussed in low voices for a while longer.
Fang Bin asked about the market price of a void stone.
When he heard Old Wang say that such a small stone could actually sell for five million, he was stunned once again.
A few more minutes passed.
Fang Bin stood up to take his leave.
The two had already reached an agreement:
One would stay behind to continue receiving Chen Ping and try to establish a connection with him.
It would be best if he could be persuaded to join the alliance branch;
The other would immediately contact the branch manager to report the matter.
Obviously, the task of winning over Chen Ping fell to Fang Bin.
After all, he was the only person Chen Ping was familiar with.
As for Old Wang, he remained in the appraisal room, responsible for contacting the branch manager.
...
"Sorry, Mr. Chen, for making you wait so long."
Lin Fan turned to look at Fang Bin, who had just walked into the office.
He glanced at him once, then turned his head back.
Fang Bin's arrival pulled his attention back to reality.
During the time he had just been waiting, he had been flipping through the system panel to pass the time.
Seeing that Chen Ping only glanced at him and then turned away, Fang Bin smiled nervously.
He had just learned that this Chen Ping was very likely a high-level mage who concealed his tracks and did not want to reveal his identity.
He was currently trying his best to keep himself calm.
He closed the door, walked behind the desk, and sat down in the seat opposite Chen Ping.
His gaze briefly met the line of sight emanating from the two holes in the omniscient mask.
He quickly looked away.
Fang Bin took a small black bank card from his pocket and placed it in front of Lin Fan.
"This is an alliance black card."
"The valuation for your void stone is five million, plus the payment for the previous magical beast carcasses and magic cores, making a total of 6.31 million on the card."
Fang Bin said with a sincere smile on his face.
Lin Fan: "...!"
"Five million?!"
Hearing the selling price of this small stone, Lin Fan gasped, his voice full of shock.
This figure was several times more than all the money he had earned from selling magical beast carcasses and magic cores combined!
How could he not be shocked?
When he had earned his first pot of gold in his life, he had been extremely excited.
Now, just from a single void stone, he had an extra five million in income out of thin air.
However, the next second, Lin Fan widened his eyes, almost blurting out a curse.
He quickly calmed down and looked at the flustered man in front of him.
Fortunately, he was wearing a mask, so no one could see his expression, otherwise he would have definitely given himself away!
On the other side, Fang Bin was startled by Chen Ping's sudden gasp.
Because he couldn't see the other party's face, he had no idea that Chen Ping had lost his composure because of shock.
He thought the other party felt the pricing of the void stone was too low and was dissatisfied with the five-million offer given by the alliance.
This scared Fang Bin.
After all, he still carried the task of recruiting Chen Ping to join the alliance branch.
If he left a bad impression on the other party because of this, it would be troublesome.
He forced himself to calm down and hurriedly explained.
Five million was already a very generous price.
The alliance not only did not deduct any handling fees but also specially added a sum of money on top of the original price.
After all, this was the first time Chen Ping had sold such rare items to the alliance.
Fang Bin nervously stared at Chen Ping's expressionless white omniscient mask.
He only hoped that his explanation would appease the other party.
Not being able to see the other party's expression was truly a torment.
Dealing with someone who didn't show their emotions was simply too torturous.
Listening to Fang Bin's explanation, Lin Fan secretly breathed a sigh of relief... fortunately, he hadn't been exposed.
He cleared his throat and said.
"Fine, let's do it that way."
After speaking, he picked up the alliance black card on the table and stuffed it under his black robe.
Actually, he was just clutching it in his hand.
After all, he didn't have any storage items on him to hold things.
Hearing Chen Ping's reply, Fang Bin breathed a sigh of relief, a look of joy appearing on his face.
Watching Chen Ping tuck the alliance black card into his black robe, he assumed that the card had been put into that old backpack from before.
After collecting the money, Lin Fan stood up, ready to leave.
His business for the day was finished, and it was time to go home.
But just as he stood up and took a step, the man opposite him suddenly called out to him.
"Mr. Chen, please wait! I wonder if I might take a few minutes of your time?"
Without waiting for Lin Fan to walk far, Fang Bin quickly stood up and asked politely.
Lin Fan's footsteps paused, and he turned to look at the other party, his eyebrows slightly raised.
Unfortunately, wearing the omniscient mask, Fang Bin couldn't see his expression at all.
However, Fang Bin still took his pause as a signal of tacit consent.
He stopped beating around the bush and said straight to the point:
"Sorry, I kept forgetting to formally introduce myself."
"My name is Fang Bin; you can just call me by my name later. I am one of the two officials under the branch manager of this alliance branch."
He paused for a moment, wanting to see if Chen Ping would reply.
But the other party just looked at him quietly, so he continued:
"I would like to ask, is Chen Ping currently joined to any adventure group?"
