91: Chapter 91
Nearly a hundred Lizardman slowly approached the giant rock.
Their scale spines were poised and ready to be launched at any moment.
The Adventurers on the rock had tense expressions, summoning their starlight charts without hesitation to begin casting spells.
Green vines burst wildly from the ground, lunging toward the Lizardman like venomous snakes; massive fireballs and tongues of flame whistled past, illuminating the ground in a deep red.
High-speed spinning Water Blades tore through the air, shimmering with a cold blue light in the sunlight.
Wind blades, like sharp gales, wove through the space.
For a moment, spells of various colors wove a brilliant net of light above the rock, crashing down with a roar.
Boom! Bang! Crack! The deafening sounds shook the heavens and earth.
The ground trembled violently.
Explosions and collision sounds erupted one after another.
Billowing dust enveloped a large area.
The Lizardman in the distance were lucky enough to escape, but those within a twenty-meter radius were swallowed by the smoke and dust, their fates unknown.
Swish...! Suddenly, countless sounds of piercing through the air tore through the smoke.
Dense swarms of scale spines, like missiles, shot wildly toward Yao Dong and the others.
The strong wind blew away most of the smoke.
Everyone finally saw the state of the Lizardman below.
"Everyone, defend!" Yao Dong, seeing the scale spines rapidly approaching, shouted sternly.
He instantly summoned five points of starlight.
In less than a second, they condensed into a golden starlight chart.
"Beam!"
Several golden spheres of light, like small suns, appeared around him.
They flew out in a ring, intercepting the scale spines.
The others did not just stand by and watch Yao Dong defend alone.
The Earth-element Mage immediately activated an Earth Wall, building a high barrier to block a portion of the scale spines.
Others cast Wind Blades, Flash, and Water Blades to destroy the incoming attacks; those without suitable offensive means immediately pulled out defensive magic items.
Pale energy barriers, several meters high, unfolded before them.
Just in time, they blocked the rain of scale spines.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Clang! Clang! Clang!
The crisp sounds of the scale spines striking the energy barriers were completely drowned out by the thunderous explosions of spells in the air.
The scene was like a sky full of fireworks exploding wildly.
Shockwaves rushed toward them, but everyone stood their ground firmly, not retreating a single step.
A few scale spines that penetrated the explosion zone or bypassed the defenses were easily dodged, slamming heavily onto the rock.
The wave of scale spines, lasting only a few seconds, felt as long as a century.
The explosions finally ceased, and the rain of scale spines stopped along with them.
Yao Dong and the others dared not relax in the slightest.
Looking down at the nearly dissipated smoke, they saw the scene on the ground.
Everyone's pupils constricted.
The ground was covered in cracks and craters, with gravel flying everywhere.
This was the result of their frantic spell bombardment just moments ago.
But what shocked them most was... there wasn't even a single Lizardman corpse on the ground.
They had actually managed to dodge everything!
"This bunch of ridiculously fast scum!" someone cursed angrily.
They had already exhausted themselves hunting Gargoyles earlier.
Before they could even rest, they were surrounded.
Now, discovering that the Lizardman were completely unscathed, their mood was at its worst.
There was no help for it.
They were only First-Order Mages; their spell power was limited, and their speed was not fast enough to stop the agile Lizardman.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The footsteps of the Lizardman rang out again.
They suddenly began to close in on the giant rock.
In groups of fifty or sixty, they surrounded them from all directions, as if acting under unified command.
Yao Dong's eyes sharpened, and he roared, "We must not let them get close!"
Before the words left his mouth, he struck first, forming two golden starlight charts above his head.
"Beam Ray!"
A dazzling golden beam of light crashed down, shooting toward a group of Lizardman.
The group of Lizardman let out noisy shrieks and scrambled to dodge in all directions.
Bang! The beam slammed into the center of the crowd.
The ground was instantly blasted into a crater.
Three Lizardman were pierced through and killed on the spot, while the others seized the chance to flee, blending into other groups.
At the same time, rain-like scale spines rose into the air again, shooting toward them.
The Adventurers were forced to defend with all their might.
Yao Dong spat in frustration, firing several rays of light in succession to intercept the scale spines below.
These Lizardman simply wouldn't give them a chance to attack.
They used scale spines to suppress them while slowly closing in.
Once they rushed to their front, the situation would be completely out of control.
Therefore, Yao Dong destroyed as many scale spines as he could while looking for opportunities to attack the Lizardman.
Even though his rays were slow and always dodged, he did not stop.
The others focused entirely on self-preservation.
Just then, a violent aura suddenly erupted from behind them.
Rumble...!
The sky above suddenly darkened, and purple lightning rolled and flashed within the clouds.
The approaching Lizardman all stopped in their tracks.
Their giant yellow pupils stared blankly at the sky.
This brief pause gave everyone a chance to catch their breath.
Everyone turned their heads in unison to look at the source of the aura eruption.
At the edge of the giant pit, Ge Ying's hair and clothes danced wildly, with invisible gales surging.
The purple starlight chart above her head emitted a terrifying pressure, with electric arcs leaping and flickering around her.
A moment later... Crackle! Boom!!
A ferocious bolt of lightning, like an enraged dragon, struck down from the dark sky, and the entire area was shrouded in oppressive Lightning Element power.
The thunder was deafening.
But this lightning did not actually strike; it slowly dissipated in mid-air.
The sky returned to normal.
The starlight chart above Ge Ying's head slowly faded.
Her eyes returned to normal, and she looked calmly at everyone.
No need to say more.
Now they only needed to... wait for reinforcements.
What Ge Ying had just done was the same as what Aunt Mi Xue did when clearing the Magic Ants in the warehouse: condensing elemental power for a long time without releasing a spell.
This would trigger elemental manifestation.
Depending on the Mage's strength, the manifested power could far exceed a spell, or it could just be a show of force.
Aunt Mi Xue was a Tier 3 Mage; her Water Element manifestation turned directly into a monstrous flood, enough to submerge a street.
A weaker mage would at most produce a puddle of water.
But Ge Ying was only a Tier 2 Mage.
Her lightning manifestation was just an impressive display and did not actually land to harm anyone.
If it were a stronger mage, the power of this strike could even far exceed a normal Lightning Strike spell!
Elsewhere in Stone Ghost Gorge, Lin Fan glanced at the solemn-faced Aunt Mi Xue and the others.
Just now, Aunt Mi Xue had received a message from Ge Ying.
After hanging up, she told them that their group was surrounded by over a hundred Lizardman.
Lin Fan didn't know what Lizardman were.
But the number "over a hundred" alone was enough to make the team panic.
Aunt Mi Xue told everyone to stop and wait for Ge Ying's signal.
Lin Fan was curious about how she would pinpoint their location.
He had already released his Tier 4 Mage perception, yet he couldn't sense anyone's aura.
Clearly, they were very far apart from the other group.
He couldn't help but guess, could it be a magic item?
As he thought, he glanced at the system panel... the skill was still in creation.
He didn't know how much longer it would take to finish.
"Hmm?" Lin Fan suddenly froze, looking in a certain direction.
He clearly felt a surge of Lightning Element power coming from very far away.
Although it only appeared for an instant, he could be certain that it was the Lightning Element.
