59: Chapter 59 is enough. If they really release a AAA game, would you buy it?
The two of them played for nearly another hour, reaching Level 2-8 of the night stages.
Lin Ran was in charge of the controls, while Lin Xi provided commentary and kept things entertaining. Their synergy grew better and better, successfully driving the popularity and concurrent viewership of the official stream to staggering heights.
From the initial 80,000, it climbed to 100,000, then 120,000, and finally reached the incredible figure of 150,000.
The bullet chat was moving so fast it was a blur, densely packed across the entire screen, and almost all of it consisted of positive reviews.
"Stop playing, stop playing! If you keep going, this kid won't be able to sleep tonight!"
"Why is it only releasing tomorrow at 10 AM? Wouldn't it be better to just release it tonight so I can pull an all-nighter? It’s a holiday tomorrow anyway!"
"Already added to my wishlist! By the way, why didn't Spark Games open pre-orders again?"
"A Spark production is always a masterpiece!"
"Ugh, why is it almost ten already? Can't you stream for another two hours? I haven't seen enough, and my takeout just arrived!"
Resting her chin on her snow-white hand while engrossed in the bullet chat, Lin Xi suddenly realized it was nearly ten o'clock.
"Time's about up!"
She said to the camera:
"That’s all for today. Everyone, remember to add it to your wishlist. Tomorrow morning, after you wash up and have breakfast, you'll be able to play this masterpiece meticulously crafted by Spark Games."
Lin Ran added in a small voice from the side:
"There's a ten percent launch discount, so don't miss out!"
Bullet chat:
"Buy, buy, buy! Definitely buying!"
"Lin Xi is so bad at this, will she even be invited back next time?"
"Is Miss Lin Ran coming back next time? You're so beautiful; watching your face while watching the game is pure bliss!"
"So what's the launch price? Don't make it too expensive, us students can't afford it, sob sob QAQ."
"Where's President Jiang? When is President Jiang coming out?"
"Damn, Jiang Yuan has to be the most mysterious producer in the history of domestic games, right? Even if others don't show their faces, they at least do interviews or take photos. Jiang Yuan hasn't even released a single photo!"
"Is it because the online hype is too exaggerated and she's not actually that pretty, so she's afraid to show herself?"
Even though Jiang Yuan hadn't appeared and Lin Xi and Lin Ran hadn't mentioned her name,
The name 'Jiang Yuan' still became one of the undeniable protagonists of tonight's official stream. From start to finish, someone was asking about her every moment.
If one had to summarize the stream's keywords,
This name would undoubtedly be the most frequent—possibly without exception!
Lin Xi glanced in a direction off-camera.
Jiang Yuan wasn't there; she was probably resting in the office or the breakroom while watching their stream.
Lin Xi withdrew her gaze and said to the camera with a sweet smile:
"President Jiang said: next time for sure!"
The bullet chat erupted in wails, but some 'Leeuwenhoeks' noticed something else:
"President Jiang is right there?!"
"Let me see! Just one look!"
"Lin Xi, let your hand slip! Turn the camera!"
"Please, I'm begging you!"
Lin Xi didn't turn it; instead, she reached out with a grin and cut the stream.
The moment the stream went dark, the bullet chat was still scrolling frantically, filled with both love and reluctance for Plants vs. Zombies, as well as curiosity regarding Lin Xi's final instinctive glance.
But no matter how much everyone wailed,
Lin Xi obviously wouldn't actually turn the camera—not unless she had a death wish.
After the two-hour stream concluded,
Lin Xi emerged from the conference room. She first rushed to the office, and seeing no one there, she trotted excitedly to the breakroom.
Finally, she caught Jiang Yuan slacking off and resting on the innermost sofa. She plopped down on the chair next to her, looking adorable as she fished for a compliment, and said happily:
"So? How was my performance?"
Jiang Yuan's bright eyes glanced at her.
"Your 'fail' was quite natural."
Lin Xi froze for a moment, then realized what she meant. Her snow-white, delicate face instantly flushed red.
"You... you saw through it? I guess it's no wonder. It's been a long time since I played like that, and I felt like my acting was a bit fake, hahaha."
The corners of Jiang Yuan's lips curled slightly, but she didn't speak.
Lin Xi glared at her:
"Did you already predict I would act like that today?"
Jiang Yuan didn't say a word. She stood up, got another cup of hot water, and began to sip it with a pleasant expression.
Lin Xi followed behind her, still lamenting:
"You are just too smart! Sometimes I feel like a complete moron and an idiot in front of you! You see through everything I want to do before I even do it!"
As Jiang Yuan walked back toward the office with her cup, she looked back at her with a clear, leisurely gaze.
"It's not that I'm smart; it's just that you're too easy to read."
Isn't that just another way of saying I'm stupid?!
Lin Xi opened her mouth, found she really couldn't argue, and could only give a soft huff before stomping off elsewhere in a huff.
Once she sat down, she remembered she couldn't leave yet—she had to wait for Jiang Yuan to finish work so she could get a ride home. This made her even more annoyed!
Back in the office,
Jiang Yuan opened her computer and checked the stream's backend data.
The peak concurrent viewership was 180,000. Even for a popular mobile game, this data was by no means bad; for an indie or single-player game, it was likely enough to tower over the competition.
It could only be said that,
After the successive explosive success of two games, the names Spark Games and Jiang Yuan had indeed established significant fame and trust—at least domestically, if not internationally!
She then opened the Steam backend.
The wishlist count had jumped from over 2.7 million before the stream to 3.3 million now, and it was still rising at a staggering rate. At this rate, breaking 4 million before launch would certainly be effortless.
Finally, she habitually opened the familiar 'Poop-Yellow Forum'.
The front page of the gaming sub-forum was currently being flooded with posts, almost all of them discussing Plants vs. Zombies and the playtest stream:
[Did you guys watch the official Spark Games playtest? The part where Lin Xi failed was hilarious]
[That Lin Ran is seriously beautiful. I thought she was a model Spark hired from somewhere]
[The first two main worlds are already this fun; I can't even imagine how interesting the later levels will be...]
[Look at how cowardly you are. I dare to imagine, and I'm thinking big. Maybe there will be fused plants or hybrid plants later? It would be cool if there were anthropomorphic Plant Girls too, hehehe]
[It releases tomorrow. I've already taken the day off. What about you guys?]
[Tomorrow is Saturday; why do you need to take a day off? There aren't actually people who have to work on weekends, right? No way, right?]
[By the way, if Plants vs. Zombies is a success this time too, Spark Games should probably move into large-scale single-player games, right? They have the people and the money; only making indie games is a waste of talent]
[Enough already. With the state of the domestic single-player market, you can still make a profit with indie games. If they actually made a large-scale single-player or AAA game, would you even buy it? If it was priced at 298, could it even sell 100,000 copies? Don't make me laugh!]
