30: Chapter 30 Lord Chaos, please take this side path
Priest Cassius was quite efficient; it didn't take long for him to basically figure out the procedures for the first imperial examination.
In addition to the humans and Aeldari who had already become naturalized citizens of the Cheng Yu Empire, the announcement for the imperial examination was also sent to the surrounding star systems.
Of course, most people didn't understand the term "imperial examination." To the outside world, it was described as: "Recruiting personnel with relevant skills through examinations. No restrictions on race or age. Excellent benefits, including food and lodging, relocation allowance, medical insurance, opportunities for advancement, and paid vacation. Families are welcome to settle down."
"Your Majesty, these are the written test questions I have drafted. These questions are for the preliminary screening; the secondary assessment will mainly be an interview."
Cassius brought over a thick stack of papers, which gave Cheng Yu quite a start... Upon closer inspection, he realized that different preliminary test questions had been set for different types of talent.
"Having you as my minister is just like the King of Han gaining Han Xin, or Wang Yun gaining Lü Bu!" Cheng Yu exclaimed.
Cassius was already used to Cheng Yu suddenly mentioning strange names.
"Add two administrative assessment questions to all the test papers: one titled 'Methodology for Exterminating Orks,' and the other 'Management Methods for Hive City Sanitation.' Candidates may choose either one to answer. I want to see the candidates' policy analysis capabilities."
"I obey your command, Your Majesty. You are truly divinely intelligent, a wise and sagacious ruler!"
"Tone down the flattery; I don't care for that." Main Body grinned so wide his white teeth were exposed.
Solar Segmentum, Alpha Centauri.
This was the territory of Lord Drake.
He was originally a noble on Holy Terra. Because he couldn't keep his pants on, coupled with his stiff knees, low emotional intelligence, and foul mouth, by the time he came to his senses, he had already been pushed out to this place.
If Lord Drake were fortunate enough to obtain an xenos artifact capable of granting eternal life, and then continued to develop with his character and conduct...
In just a few short millennia, he could have gone to develop over in the Prometheus Nebula.
The millions of Cheng Yus Clones no longer looked identical, and with a bit of simple makeup technique, they at least wouldn't scare onlookers the moment they appeared.
"Father, you have returned."
In front of Lord Drake's castle, his nine sons and three daughters came out to welcome him.
These were only the legitimate children from noble marriages; if one counted his illegitimate children, the number of Lord Drake's offspring would be nearly an entire reinforced company.
Without any help, Lord Drake's reproductive capability was truly worthy of praise.
"Father, I have memorized the entire lectitio divinitatus."
Lord Drake's youngest son was only eight years old. For an eight-year-old child to memorize such a thick book—did the Corpse Emperor Empire have any humanity left?
"My child, there is no need for you to memorize that anymore."
Lord Drake placed another, thicker book into his youngest son's hands—it was the Cheng Yu version of the Imperial Truth. "Memorize this from now on."
"Father, those people from the Inquisition have come again." This time it was Lord Drake's eldest son, who was also his heir, who spoke.
"Oh?" Lord Drake sneered. "How many of them came?"
"One official Inquisitor and a company of Navy personnel."
"Hmph, a mere few hundred petty thieves. Watch me crush them in one blow!"
Lord Drake waved his hand, and thousands of elite Cheng Yus Clones assault troops surged out from the landing craft.
"The time has come. We raise our banners today!"
The Cheng Yus Clone with the "Sharingan" tattoo was the commander of this operation.
Lord Drake's children were no fools; after all, they had received noble education. Seeing this scene, they knew their father had rebelled.
Rebelled?
Then so be it. Damn it, I couldn't stand it anymore anyway!
"I'll lead you to capture the Inquisitor; she is right inside the highest watchtower of the castle!"
Lord Drake's eldest son was familiar with the terrain and immediately opened the side door of the castle to let the assault clones file in.
The "Sharingan" Cheng Yus Clone held the Drake family crest and the head of the house's seal. No one dared to block his path, and he quickly advanced to the watchtower where the Inquisitor and her people were located.
The other side wasn't slow-witted. Seeing so many armed personnel approaching their direction, they naturally knew things were going badly.
Inquisitor Vera Istvan was just twenty-eight years old this year and had only become an official Inquisitor last month.
Her superiors had sent her here to congratulate her on her successful promotion and to let her shake down Lord Drake a bit.
Vera asked herself, she really wasn't greedy; she had only asked them for a dozen sets of power armor comparable to that of Space Marines. Why would that force such a veteran noble to rebel?!
"Little Drake," Vera called out to Lord Drake's eldest son, "you are still young; you must not walk down the path of betraying the Empire!"
"The one not wearing a helmet is the Inquisitor!" Little Drake shouted to the Cheng Yus Clones.
The "Sharingan" Cheng Yus Clone fired a Gauss rifle, blasting a huge hole in the side of the watchtower. Bricks and mortar, along with the wooden staircase, came crashing down, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Surrender and you will live!"
A Cheng Yus Clone vanguard threw a flashbang, stunning the few Imperial Navy soldiers who were attempting to block the breach.
"I'm done with this, damn it!"
Inquisitor Vera snatched a helmet from a soldier. She was a very cautious person; on the very first day she was stationed here, she had already discovered there was a tunnel under this watchtower.
"Inquisitor, you cannot leave!"
The Navy captain grabbed her trench coat. "If you leave, all these soldiers will lose their lives!"
"Screw you, is my life not a life too?!" Vera Istvan kicked the captain flying, then turned and leapt into the tunnel.
"Drop your weapons!"
The Cheng Yus Clones had already charged into the watchtower. Their Gauss weapons were truly terrifying; the Imperial Navy soldiers had absolutely no will to resist.
As the captain dropped his weapon, the remaining soldiers disarmed one after another.
Sigh... I hope they are just rebels. Surrendering to rebels doesn't necessarily mean death, but if there is any corruption involved here, that would truly be a fate worse than death!
"You need not panic; we are all pure-bred humans!"
The "Sharingan" Cheng Yus Clone walked into the watchtower, nearly scaring all the Imperial soldiers present into wetting themselves.
Because the "Sharingan" Cheng Yus Clone had previously been stationed at the "Water Extraction Point" in Warp, his physical mutation was quite severe.
To be specific, the "Sharingan" Cheng Yus Clone had three eyes, six arms, and a pair of horns growing on his head, and he held a long spear, looking just like the god-like Lü Bu.
"I will take you to capture the Inquisitor; Chaos Lord, please take this small path!" The captain pointed at the tunnel, his voice trembling as he spoke.
"No need. Our people are already waiting at the exit."
Just kidding. This building belonged to the Drake family; how could they not know about their own tunnel? She really thought she could get away.
