144: Chapter 144 Bold Demon, Take This from Old Sun!

Jiang Fan followed Su Yuyan into the elevator.

Su Yuyan pressed the button for the 23rd floor, retreated to the corner of the elevator, crossed her arms over her chest, and fixed her eyes on the changing floor numbers.

Neither of them spoke.

The humming sound of the elevator running was exceptionally clear in the confined space.

Ding~

Arriving at the apartment door, Su Yuyan entered the password and pushed the door open to walk inside.

Jiang Fan stood at the doorway for two seconds, resignedly stepped inside, and closed the door behind him.

Su Yuyan took off her suit jacket and tossed it onto the sofa armrest.

She kicked off her flats, stepped barefoot onto the carpet, and walked over to the sofa to sit down.

With her legs crossed and her arms resting on the armrests, she tilted her chin slightly upward.

"Come sit."

Jiang Fan walked over, glanced at the spot beside her, took a detour, and sat down on the single sofa opposite her.

The two of them sat facing each other like that for a dozen seconds.

Su Yuyan spoke first.

"Jiang Fan. I'm going to ask you a question, and I want you to answer it honestly."

Jiang Fan straightened his back slightly.

"Between Shen Nian and me, who sings better?"

The room was silent for a few seconds.

Jiang Fan's brain whirred rapidly.

No matter how he answered this question, it would be wrong.

If he said Shen Nian sang better, he could forget about leaving this door tonight; if he said Su Yuyan sang better, she would keep prying until dawn.

"You both have different styles; each has its own merits."

Su Yuyan stared at him, seemingly unsatisfied with this answer.

"Even Huzi, a twelve-year-old kid, can give an answer; you can't?"

Jiang Fan rubbed his temples.

"That's because Huzi hasn't been beaten down by society yet."

Su Yuyan didn't smile; she crossed her legs in the other direction.

"And there's that Song Siyi."

Jiang Fan was stunned. "What about her now?"

"You said in front of everyone at the Orphanage when you were a kid that you wanted to marry her?"

"That was ori—I was only eight back then. You're taking something said by an eight-year-old seriously? We haven't been in contact for several years."

He almost slipped up.

Su Yuyan didn't notice his slip of the tongue; her attention was entirely elsewhere.

"Not in contact for several years, but didn't you just get in touch today?"

Jiang Fan sighed.

"Su Yuyan, what exactly do you want to ask today?"

Su Yuyan stood up.

She walked barefoot to the wine cabinet, pulled open the cabinet door, ran her fingers across several bottles of wine, and finally pulled out a bottle of whiskey.

She unscrewed the cap, poured a glass, and downed it in one go.

"I just want to know, in your heart, what exactly do I count as?"

This sentence was said very softly, with no inflection.

But Jiang Fan could tell that she had been thinking about this question ever since they were at the Orphanage.

Ever since the moment Huzi said "Sister Shen Nian".

Jiang Fan didn't rush to answer.

He stood up, bracing his hands on his knees, and walked over to Su Yuyan.

There was less than half a step of distance between them.

He reached out, took the wine glass from her hand, and placed it on the counter of the wine cabinet next to them.

Su Yuyan looked up at him.

Jiang Fan raised his hand, his thumb brushing against the edge of her lips—

"You don't 'count' as anything."

Su Yuyan's expression changed.

"—You are just you. Su Yuyan is Su Yuyan; in my heart, you are one of a kind. You don't need to compare yourself to anyone."

Su Yuyan pressed her lips together.

She turned her head, dodging Jiang Fan's finger.

"Don't try that on me."

"What 'that'?"

"That slick-talking routine."

Her voice was clearly softer than before, and she realized it herself, so she turned her face further away.

Jiang Fan's hand slid down her cheek, his fingertips touching the warm skin beneath her pinned-up hair.

Su Yuyan's body tensed for a moment.

"Are you done asking now?"

"Not yet. I still have—"

The second half of the sentence was directly blocked off.

When Jiang Fan lowered his head to kiss her, he tasted the whiskey and the lipstick lingering on her lips.

Su Yuyan's palms pushed against his chest, pushing twice, but without force.

On the third time, she simply stopped pushing and gripped the front of his shirt, pulling him toward her.

When the kiss broke, both of them were panting.

Su Yuyan leaned against the wine cabinet, a few strands of hair falling down and sticking to the side of her neck.

"That story you told today."

"Hmm?"

"It was actually quite good. Why don't you write it down?"

Jiang Fan didn't expect her to talk about this right now.

"What, you want to hear it too?"

Su Yuyan wiped the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand.

"It was really quite engaging; those little brats were all listening, dumbfounded. If you wrote it out, it would definitely be a bestseller."

Jiang Fan looked at her; the light hit from the side, illuminating half of her face.

Because she had just finished drinking, it was flushed a rosy pink.

"Fine. We'll talk about that after this busy period is over."

Jiang Fan scooped her up horizontally.

Su Yuyan let out an "Ah," her hands reflexively wrapping around his neck.

"What are you doing—"

"Since you want to hear it, today I'll first tell you how The Monkey King beat the White Bone Demon with his staff."

Jiang Fan carried her toward the bedroom.

Su Yuyan's legs swung in mid-air.

"Put me down. Who wants to hear you tell—"

Jiang Fan kicked open the bedroom door.

Su Yuyan was tossed onto the bed, bouncing slightly, her hair spreading out on the pillow.

Before she could sit up, Jiang Fan had already braced one hand beside her and leaned down.

"It is said that the White Bone Demon transformed into a beautiful woman, waiting on the roadside for Tang Monk and his disciples."

As he spoke, he reached out to undo the first button of her shirt.

Su Yuyan slapped his hand away.

"Tell your story, but keep your hands from wandering."

"The Monkey King took one look with his Fiery Eyes—"

The second button came undone.

"—Yo, it's actually a demon."

Su Yuyan bit her lip, trying hard to stifle a laugh.

"So I'm the demon?"

"The White Bone Demon is beautiful, the best-looking demon for a hundred miles around."

"Is that how you sweet-talk people?"

The third button was also gone.

The collar of her shirt hung wide open, revealing the white lace trim inside.

Jiang Fan's voice lowered.

"Then, The Great Sage raised his golden cudgel—"

Su Yuyan finally couldn't hold back her laughter and slapped his shoulder.

"Jiang Fan, can you be serious for once!"

"I am being very serious. Listen to me finish."

He lowered his head, his lips pressing against her collarbone.

Su Yuyan's laughter cut off, turning into a muffled, indistinct groan.

"The White Bone Demon saw that things were going south and transformed into a wisp of green smoke, trying to escape—"

Jiang Fan's hand slid down the side of her waist.

"How could The Great Sage let her go? He chased after her and struck her again with his staff."

Su Yuyan gripped the sheets tightly.

"You... don't use journey to the west to take advantage of me..."

"It's not yet certain who is taking advantage of whom."

The sound of the belt buckle being undone was very clear in the quiet bedroom.

Su Yuyan writhed slightly beneath him.

"Mmm... Great Sage... please spare this little maiden..."

Jiang Fan paused for a second and looked down at her.

Su Yuyan's face was already burning red; after saying that, even she felt it was ridiculous, and she used her arm to cover half her face.

Jiang Fan brushed her arm away, looking at the shy, bashful eyes beneath.

"Bold demon, you still dare to cast your charms? Taste The Monkey King's staff."

"Ugh—"
