107: Chapter 107 The Disabled CEO's Benefactor 4

Although Fu Jinghan was already thirty-two years old this year, time seemed to have left few marks upon him.

His well-tailored suit accentuated his increasingly slender figure; his facial contours were distinct, and his complexion was a cold, delicate white.

With sword-like eyebrows and starry eyes, he had a high-bridged nose above slightly pursed thin lips, and the fine lines at the corners of his eyes added a touch of unique charm.

The only flaw was perhaps the lingering gloom between his brows, making his entire being appear somewhat somber.

"Ring... ring..."

The phone placed to the side suddenly rang. Fu Jinghan turned his head slightly, and his gaze fell on the caller ID; it was actually President Li from the airline.

Fu Jinghan's deep eyes slowly narrowed, and an indescribable glint quietly surged in the depths of his gaze.

He had only ever asked the other party for one thing. Now that they were calling, could it be that A-Zhan had returned to the country?

Unstoppable excitement and joy instantly rose in Fu Jinghan's heart. He hurried to set down the documents in his hand, quickly reached out for his phone, and with a gentle swipe of his finger, answered the call.

"Hello, President Li. Is there some good news?"

There was a clear hint of eagerness in his voice, faintly mixed with a bit of trepidation.

"President Fu, there is indeed good news. Regarding the person you asked me to look out for, I've been paying full attention and haven't dared to be the slightest bit negligent. Today, my subordinates reported that he bought a plane ticket to A City."

The moment the words were spoken, Fu Jinghan's fingers holding the phone couldn't help but tremble slightly.

The gloom that originally hung between his brows seemed to be swept away by a spring breeze, the haze quickly dissipating.

A brilliant and joyful smile appeared on his handsome face, one filled with a hint of anticipation and excitement, as if his entire being were enveloped in a bright light.

"This news is extremely important to me. Many thanks this time, President Li. I must host a banquet to thank you another day."

President Li on the other end of the phone seemed to have been waiting for Fu Jinghan to say this; he laughed heartily upon hearing it.

"It's just a small matter. Having those words from President Fu is enough; a banquet would be too formal. I'll send the flight information and arrival time to President Fu's phone in a moment."

Fu Jinghan also smiled slightly upon hearing this and responded with a touch of politeness.

"Fine, since President Li says so, let's leave it at that. But I, Fu Jinghan, will remember this favor."

After a few more casual, professional words, the call was disconnected.

A short while later, complete and detailed information was sent to Fu Jinghan's phone.

Fu Jinghan looked at the information on his phone with eyes full of tenderness, his slender fingers involuntarily and gently stroking Lu Zhan's name.

A faint air of stillness permeated the office, as if time had stood still at this moment.

Before A-Zhan left, on that night he stayed over at his house, he had once quietly kissed A-Zhan.

Just such a stolen kiss had already made him feel incredibly happy and satisfied!

"A-Zhan, three whole years have passed, and you're finally willing to come back. Every day you were gone, Brother Han missed you terribly. What about you? Did you miss Brother Han?"

His murmurs were overflowing with love and deep longing, and the surrounding air seemed to grow thicker because of these words, filled with the scent of attachment.

Fu Jinghan gazed at Lu Zhan's photo on his phone, a trace of distress and sadness showing in his eyes.

"A-Zhan, you probably didn't miss Brother Han, right? Otherwise, why would you be coming back without even being willing to tell me?"

"You once said you admired me and that I was your role model, so why did you end up getting tired of me? You really are a little liar."

The silence in the office further highlighted the helplessness and melancholy in his words.

Fu Jinghan had always thought he could forever stand silently behind A-Zhan; as long as it was A-Zhan's decision, he would support it unconditionally.

However, facts proved that he couldn't do it. Even if he was so broken, and in this lifetime it was impossible and he was unworthy of becoming A-Zhan's partner—

—he still hoped that A-Zhan could care about him a little, even if it was just a tiny bit.

Fu Jinghan couldn't help but recall the time when Lu Zhan had first left; the feeling was as if a warm little sun had suddenly vanished, and endless darkness and cold had instantly swallowed him.

He was like a fish out of water, extremely uncomfortable, his heart filled with unutterable pain.

So he began to frequently send messages and make calls to A-Zhan, yet those calls were never successfully answered.

But fortunately, A-Zhan would reply to his messages every time, although it was only a few short sentences that looked extremely cold and perfunctory.

But his heart was as happy as if it were coated in honey; he would check them over and over again, as if doing so could prove that there was a small place for him in A-Zhan's heart.

Until later, the messages he sent were like stones sinking into the ocean; A-Zhan never replied again. Fu Jinghan felt both distressed and wronged, as well as full of fear and unease.

He began to speculate whether A-Zhan had met someone better, to the point of feeling that he, Fu Jinghan, was actually nothing special after all.

So he sent people to quietly investigate everything about A-Zhan at Columbia University; fortunately, there was nothing unusual.

A-Zhan just focused on his studies step-by-step every day, which allowed his heart to relax quite a bit.

Perhaps what A-Zhan said was true—he was just too busy.

So he began to restrain himself, no longer disturbing A-Zhan's studies, but instead waiting patiently.

He looked forward to A-Zhan's return, at which time everything would return to the beauty of the past, and he and A-Zhan would still be able to be as they were before.

Fu Jinghan had not been such a sensitive and suspicious person before; however, ever since he injured his leg, he had become both sensitive and insecure.

In every interaction and every contact with A-Zhan in the past, he had been trembling with fear, carefully concealing everything.

He was terrified that once A-Zhan noticed something was wrong, his perfect image in A-Zhan's heart would completely collapse.

From then on, A-Zhan would look at him with a gaze full of fear and disgust; that would undoubtedly be like sharp blades stabbing straight into the deepest part of his heart.

A sense of desolation showed in Fu Jinghan's eyes. He raised his hand and placed it on his right knee, feeling the strange coldness and the hard texture there.

He himself could hardly accept it, let alone his A-Zhan.

A-Zhan had always loved beautiful things the most and had even praised him more than once for being handsome and charming!

If A-Zhan knew that beneath this glamorous exterior lay such an ugly and broken body...

...A-Zhan would certainly not spare him another glance and would only avoid him like the plague, staying far away.

Just thinking about that scene made Fu Jinghan's heart ache unbearably, his whole heart filled with despair.

So he would absolutely not let such a situation happen; he would hide everything properly and, at the same time, keep himself in his place.

He would be satisfied as long as he held a tiny bit of a special place in A-Zhan's heart; he wasn't greedy.

After thinking everything through, Fu Jinghan reined in all his emotions and returned to his usual cold and abstinent appearance.
