62: The Noble Young Master's Benefactor 4

Lu Zhan sneered inwardly, his cold face remaining non-committal, while a hint of self-mockery and irony flashed in his indifferent eyes.

"Mu Lin, who do you think you are? That everyone must revolve around you? You told me to leave, so I had to leave dejectedly; now you want me back, and I'm supposed to just go back? Do you think I care about your compensation?"

After saying that, Lu Zhan prepared to close the door directly, having no desire to communicate further. Mu Lin's appearance was undoubtedly a reminder of how foolish he had been and how pathetic he had looked when he left.

Seeing this, Mu Lin reflexively reached out to block the door, his face filled with urgency as he hurried to explain.

"Lu Zhan, I never said anything about making you leave. No matter where you heard it from, it's a lie. I wish I could be with you every day; how could I possibly want you to go?"

Lu Zhan stopped his movements, his amber eyes filled with a trace of doubt as he looked deeply at Mu Lin, as if trying to see right through him.

"Mu Lin, I don't know why your attitude has suddenly changed, but I know the old you. Back then, though you didn't say it, you looked down on me in your heart."

He paused, gave a self-mocking laugh, and continued.

"It makes sense. Who would value someone who doesn't respect themselves and willingly falls into being a kept man? It's just a joke of self-deception for the pitiful."

Hearing those words, Mu Lin immediately felt something was wrong; things seemed to have gotten worse. He knew he had been too much of a mess in the past and had truly hurt him. The wound lay between them, bleeding and painful at the slightest touch.

"It's not like that, Lu Zhan. I love you. I was just too dense; I realized it too late, understood it too late. By the time I reacted, you had already left me."

Mu Lin's face turned slightly paler, his eyes reddened unconsciously, and his clenched fists drove his nails into his palms, causing waves of pain.

At this moment, Lu Zhan clearly felt the other's intense emotions, but he didn't want to think about it anymore. Mu Lin had disappointed him too many times, and falling for it once was enough.

A trace of coldness sat on his handsome face, and a flash of irony and sorrow crossed his eyes.

After a pause, Lu Zhan seemed to have completely let something go; he calmed his emotions and continued.

"Mu Lin, if you had said these things to me before, whether sincere or fake, I would have been very happy, thinking I had finally caught the moon's reflection in the water."

"But that Lu Zhan died three years ago. Now, I only want to live a peaceful and quiet life. I don't want to play some melodramatic 'sadistic love' drama with a young master like you, nor do I want anything to do with you. So please leave."

Pain and a bit of helplessness overflowed from Mu Lin's eyes, his face paled further, and he could no longer maintain his usual condescending posture.

He had imagined their reunion many times, but he never expected such strong rejection, even being directly driven away, as if Lu Zhan didn't want to look at him at all.

His only remaining chips were his status and position. Even though he knew Lu Zhan wouldn't be moved, he couldn't help but want to try, just in case...

"Lu Zhan, I can give you anything, I'm willing to do anything for you. Come back to me, okay?"

Lu Zhan looked at the young master before him, once high and mighty, elegant and noble, but now somewhat humble. He gave a non-committal smile, his eyes indifferent as all emotion faded.

"What can you give me? Money? Power? Status? I'm sorry, but I'm not interested in any of that."

His light words were filled with irony and disdain.

Mu Lin watched the increasingly indifferent and distant Lu Zhan, the pain in his heart unbearable. He had never been treated this way by Lu Zhan; as gentle as Lu Zhan had been before, he was just as cold now.

At this moment, Mu Lin clearly understood that Lu Zhan had truly and completely loathed him.

Perhaps he should turn and leave now to save some dignity, but he really couldn't give up. The mere thought of Lu Zhan being with another Omega or even starting a family made him go mad with jealousy.

He couldn't leave like this. He had already missed out once. He desperately wanted this man now, but he didn't dare do anything harmful again.

"Lu Zhan, I love you. I'm being sincere. Believe me just once, okay?"

Lu Zhan seemed to have heard something unbelievable. After a moment of silence, he suddenly burst out laughing.

"Sincere? You love me? Do you even believe those words yourself?"

Faced with the blunt questioning, Mu Lin seemed to have unearthed a memory. His face instantly turned deathly pale, and his eyes filled with self-reproach as he urgently tried to explain.

"Lu Zhan, I..."

He had barely started when the other man raised a hand to interrupt him. Lu Zhan's expression didn't change, but his cold tone was full of irony and self-mockery.

"Mu Lin, when you came to me with that so-called Sponsorship Agreement, I thought you cared for me at least a little, but that as a high-and-mighty young master, you just couldn't bring yourself to say it. So, I signed it."

"Afterward, you were extremely cold to me, even indifferent. I told myself it was fine, that I could be more proactive. I also knew that none of the people around you respected me; they all said behind my back that I was just a pet you kept on a whim."

"I knew my status was low and I wasn't good enough for you, so I was always cautious. In those two years, I never asked you for anything, fearing you would look down on me or that I would annoy you."

"When you had needs, I cooperated gently and carefully, hoping you would care for me just a little more."

"But I still remember the look you gave me when my rut suddenly hit once; it was filled with disgust and loathing."

"Even so, I still couldn't bear to leave. Was it because I had no backbone or dignity? How could that be? I was just too young then, refusing to turn back until I hit the wall."

"And you? Young Master Mu, once you matched with a better Alpha, your Mu Family felt that someone like me was beneath you and couldn't wait to clean me out like some piece of filth."

"At that moment, I finally woke up. Even if I was only treated as a Long-acting Inhibitor by you, I wasn't irreplaceable."

"How truly pathetic!"

"Now you're begging me to come back, talking about love. Do you think I'll ever believe you again?"

After speaking, as if he didn't want to look a second longer, Lu Zhan slammed the door shut.

Mu Lin stood at the door, his lips parting several times, but no words came out.

His reddened eyes were filled with pain. He slumped his upright back and covered his pale face with his hands. Tears seemed to slide through his fingers, and he suddenly looked utterly dejected.

He had no way to refute anything Lu Zhan said.

His initial approach to Lu Zhan indeed had ulterior motives, and he had never truly considered the other's feelings, only seeking immediate pleasure, which led to Lu Zhan being threatened and coerced by his parents.

When others hurt and slandered Lu Zhan, he chose silence. His repeated coldness and indifference were what truly made Lu Zhan's heart turn cold and led to his utter disappointment.

It turned out he was no different from those people; in fact, his silence and indifference were the sharpest blades that hurt Lu Zhan the most.

Yet even so, knowing he shouldn't persist, he didn't want to let go. Lu Zhan was so good; how could he bear to let someone else have him?

Before, it was Lu Zhan who walked toward him; now, it would be his turn to walk toward Lu Zhan. If once wasn't enough, then twice; if twice wasn't enough, then three times...
