68: The Noble Young Master's Benefactor 10

"Lu Zhan, when will you ever be even half as gentle with me? Who else dares to speak to me like this besides you? You are simply relying on the fact that I love you and that I cannot bear to part with you."

Lu Zhan let out two cold laughs, carrying a trace of mockery and disdain. An expression of impatience appeared on his face, his brows furrowed, faintly revealing his inner displeasure.

"Young Master Mu, there are plenty of people willing to cater to you. This is just my attitude. If you cannot handle it, you are free to stay away from me. I never begged you to come. If you don't come, I might even have a bit more peace and quiet."

Mu Lin's grip was not light, and Lu Zhan simply gave up, keeping a cold expression and looking to the side.

Perhaps it was the mockery in his words, perhaps it was Lu Zhan's indifference, or perhaps it was Lu Zhan's severe differential treatment.

The smile on Mu Lin's face faded completely. His eyes grew deeper, filled with violent Qi, faintly flickering with a dangerous cold light, staring tightly at the person in his arms.

Lu Zhan also felt the low atmospheric Qi in the car. He felt that Mu Lin probably couldn't endure it and would likely do something, like teaching him a lesson or issuing a warning.

Lu Zhan was neither flustered nor afraid. He took this opportunity to completely extinguish those superfluous, undeserved feelings of soft-heartedness and pity.

However, after a long while, nothing happened.

Mu Lin slowly suppressed and restrained all his emotions, then leaned over to kiss Lu Zhan on the side of his face, slowly leaned close to his ear, and coaxed him in a low voice.

"Lu Zhan, you can treat me however you like. As long as you are happy, Brother Lin is willing to endure it. Brother Lin spoke wrongly just now. Do not let Life Qi arise towards me, okay?"

Lu Zhan turned his head slightly to look at Mu Lin. An indescribable feeling rose in his heart, his expression softened slightly, and he said nothing more harsh.

"Let go, and go sit properly."

There was no longer the tit-for-tat tone from before, and it was a bit calmer.

"Mhm, I'll go over now and sit properly."

As he spoke, he released the person in his arms and sat back on the other side, seemingly restoring that gentle and noble appearance. One could not tell at all that he had just lost his composure and been terrifying.

Afterwards, the two remained silent all the way, speechless. Mu Lin's gaze remained glued to Lu Zhan, while Lu Zhan looked calmly out the window, though his heart felt a bit more helpless.

Mu Lin was like a ticking time bomb; one never knew when he would lose control. Yet, his status and position were set there; he couldn't be driven away, nor could he be pushed into a corner, otherwise, it would only make the other party more reckless and unbridled.

For now, he could only take it one step at a time, but he must never let their entanglement implicate others.

They soon reached their destination. This time, Mu Lin did not give Lu Zhan a chance to dodge. With a strong and unrefusable posture, he held Lu Zhan's hand and pulled him inside.

The moment the banquet doors opened, it seemed as if all the lights and gazes focused on them simultaneously. Lu Zhan blinked slightly, feeling a bit uncomfortable, before looking around.

In the bustling and lively banquet hall, the lights were brilliant, glasses clinked, and the aroma of wine spilled from the colliding glasses, gradually permeating the hall.

Handsome men and beautiful women holding wine glasses gathered in groups of three or five, but at this moment, they all stopped their small talk, all looking at him and Mu Lin with shocked gazes, their faces revealing disbelief.

If possible, Lu Zhan would not have wanted to appear in such a high-profile manner, but he truly could not break free.

Mu Lin remained indifferent to his Life Qi and angry scolding, still smiling and patiently coaxing him in a good mood. Lu Zhan could only let him be, but faced with this scene, he still underestimated Mu Lin's influence.

Whispers began to spread nearby.

"The person Young Master Mu is holding must be the partner he is announcing tonight."

"Could this be the white moonlight that Young Master Mu has been thinking about for years?"

"It's possible. He looks very unfamiliar and is quite young. He probably isn't an insider in the Magic City circle."

Such discussions were endless. Lu Zhan was standing far away and couldn't hear clearly, so he didn't take it to heart.

He scanned the people present, but didn't see Song Shu. Had he not arrived yet? Or was he in some remote corner, and he had missed him?

"Lu Zhan, what are you looking for?"

Before he could take a closer look, Mu Lin's questioning voice fell into his ear.

"I'm looking for a friend. He said yesterday that he would come, but I don't seem to have seen him just now."

Mu Lin instantly understood who Lu Zhan was looking for. It was that Song Shu again. He was really a persistent ghost, very annoying.

But his face showed no abnormality, carrying a gentle smile, his eyes focused on the person beside him.

"A friend? How is your relationship? Do I know him? Do you need my help? I have quite a bit of confidence in work matters."

Lu Zhan frowned slightly, but didn't think much of Mu Lin's words, assuming he was just curious and, because of their relationship, wanted to help Song Shu's career take another step up.

"You don't know him. He is a very sincere friend. His own company is doing quite well, so he probably doesn't need your help."

Mu Lin watched a remote place out of the corner of his eye, a dangerous cold light faintly flashing in his eyes.

"To be praised by you like this, he must indeed be a very good person. You've made me want to get to know him."

His tone was soft, and he even took Lu Zhan's hand and gently planted a kiss on the smooth, porcelain-white back of his hand.

Lu Zhan frowned, with a trace of hidden anger in his eyes, but in the end, he did not make Mu Lin lose face in public.

Mu Lin saw a slightly pale face out of the corner of his eye. His goal had been achieved, so he had no further actions and led Lu Zhan inside.

A group of people in the banquet hall immediately surrounded them enthusiastically to greet them, flattering them from time to time.

Mu Lin took Lu Zhan to socialize among the crowd, his demeanor elegant and appropriate. Beside him, Lu Zhan was cold and aloof, speaking little, occasionally nodding.

After a round, Lu Zhan's eyelids twitched at some of the remarks he heard. He had almost guessed the meaning of Mu Lin inviting him to this banquet, and a surge of anger rose in his heart.

When the crowd dispersed, Lu Zhan's expression froze a bit, his eyes filled with anger, and he looked over sharply.

"Mu Lin, when did I become your partner? You are really gilding your own face. Aren't you afraid that I will make you unable to step down in public, causing you, Young Master Mu, to lose all face at once and become a joke in the upper-class circle of Magic City?"

Mu Lin was afraid, but he was even more afraid that someone would occupy Lu Zhan's heart faster than him, and he didn't dare to interfere with Lu Zhan.

Therefore, he had to take a gamble—a gamble on that bit of soft-heartedness and pity that Lu Zhan had for him.

Now that he had won the gamble, the entire upper-class circle of Magic City would henceforth tacitly accept his relationship with Lu Zhan. Mu Lin's mood could not be more joyful, but he dared not show it, lest he completely provoke the other person.
