447: Chapter 447 Installation and Testing: More Precise Mech Flight
"All units, pay attention."
The moment Chen Wuwang's voice fell, a red light flashed inside the cockpit of the seventh-generation prototype, and the System self-check progress bar suddenly pulled from zero to full.
"It's started!" A young technician in front of the monitoring console suddenly stood up, almost knocking over his chair. "Navigation Core synchronization rate 98.7%, neural circuits all clear!"
"Stop shouting, look at the sky." Another debugger lowered his voice, his eyes fixed on the sky.
Right above the test flight field, as the morning light just tore through the thin clouds, a black shadow rose silently from the ground, like an unsheathed sword, piercing straight into the three-thousand-meter sky.
"Xiao Dao, can you hear me?" Chen Wuwang pressed the communication button, his tone steady.
A slight static sound came from the headphones, followed by Chen Xiaodao's cool voice: "Received. Altitude three thousand, airflow three degrees to the left, wind speed level twelve—the System has automatically compensated, fuselage stable."
"Try changing direction," Chen Wuwang said. "Arc entry, followed by a 180-degree roll. I want to see the response delay."
"Understood."
Before his voice faded, the mecha in the high sky suddenly tilted, its body slicing through the air like a blade, carving a perfect arc. Immediately after, it flipped sharply in the air, its metal joints making a very subtle 'click' sound. The entire movement was crisp and neat, without even a hint of shaking.
"Beautiful!" The monitor slammed a fist on the desk. "Millisecond-level response! This isn't a mecha; it's an eagle with a brain!"
Chen Wuwang didn't speak. His right hand still habitually tapped his tactical belt—once, twice, thrice—the rhythm slightly faster than before.
"Again," he continued to order. "S-curve snake maneuver, reduce auxiliary power, rely only on the navigation System to predict the path."
"Reduced," Chen Xiaodao's voice came through with a hint of a smile. "Now I'm like riding a horse with my eyes closed, but it knows where to run."
The next second, the mecha drew a smooth S-shaped trajectory in the sky, as if carved by a chisel, without the slightest delay. The clouds were torn apart, leaving clear flight patterns.
"This isn't scientific..." The programmer stared wide-eyed. "Traditional Systems have at least a 0.3-second gap in such high-speed continuous movements. How did it achieve seamless connection?"
"It's not that it achieved it," Chen Wuwang finally spoke, the corners of his mouth turning up slightly. "It's that the System calculated it in advance."
He looked up at the black shadow tumbling in the sky and said in a low voice, "It's not executing commands; it's predicting movements."
"Patriarch!" The monitor suddenly became excited. "Look at the data stream! The navigation System is actively correcting the posture, even adjusting the center of gravity distribution half a second early! It... it's teaching the pilot how to fly!"
Chen Wuwang smiled. This time he didn't suppress it; a short 'ha' escaped his throat.
"This is just the beginning."
"Prepare for a dive." In the headphones, Chen Xiaodao's voice changed, becoming serious. "I'm going to close my eyes for three seconds and rely on the System feedback to find the waypoint."
"Are you crazy?" The monitor blurted out. "Blind operation without reference? Even a ten-meter deviation could mean hitting a mountain!"
"If he dares to do it, I dare to believe." Chen Wuwang stared at the screen, his fingers stopping on his belt, no longer tapping.
High in the sky, the mecha suddenly hovered, its wings folded, and a faint blue glow appeared on the cockpit visor.
Three seconds.
The mecha closed its eyes.
The next instant, it dove vertically, its speed so fast it almost tore the air. Everyone held their breath, not daring to blink.
In the final fifteen hundred meters, the fuselage suddenly shuddered slightly. It automatically deployed its wing panels and fine-tuned its posture, like a falcon returning to its nest, pulling up sharply just three hundred meters from the ground and realigning with the original waypoint.
"It's back!" The monitor jumped up. "Course deviation 0.1 degrees! It found its own way back!"
"More than that." Chen Wuwang narrowed his eyes. "It locked onto the terrain reference point before closing its eyes, using psionic fluctuations to reverse-calculate the coordinates—this System can already 'see'."
"Success!" Chen Xiaodao's voice boomed over the communication channel, carrying a rare youthful energy. "This thing is steadier than my own hands! I could have it draw a circle now and it would be carved into stone!"
"Don't get cocky too early," Chen Wuwang said flatly. "Landing is the hardest part."
"Just watch."
The mecha slowly climbed, circled the field once, and finally aligned with the landing zone in the center of the test flight field.
Ten meters from the ground, a ring of scanning light lit up at the bottom of the fuselage. Multi-band signals activated simultaneously, incorporating terrain, heat flow, and psionic remnants into the calculation.
"Initiate slow descent mode," Chen Xiaodao said. "Three-point support, ground-skimming slide. I'm going to make it land silently."
The mecha slowly descended, like a leaf falling onto the water's surface.
Forefoot, heel, and tail support—three points touched the ground simultaneously. The fuselage didn't budge, and not even a speck of dust was kicked up from the gravel on the ground.
Silence.
The entire field was silent for two seconds.
"Holy crap..." the programmer muttered. "You call that a landing? It was more like it was printed on."
Chen Wuwang finally stepped forward, walking toward the center of the test flight field.
The mecha cockpit slowly opened, and Chen Xiaodao leaped down. He took off his helmet, his face covered in sweat, but his eyes were frighteningly bright.
"How was it?" He grinned, revealing a row of white teeth. "I told you this System could take on ten!"
Chen Wuwang didn't answer. He walked to the mecha's side and reached out to touch the neural interface on its back; the metal casing still held the residual warmth from the flight.
He looked down at his palm, as if he could still feel the feedback from that series of movements that were precise to the extreme.
"Before, we were afraid of the mecha losing control," he said slowly. "Now—"
He looked up at Chen Xiaodao, his gaze sharp as a blade.
"Now, we're afraid of it being too smart."
Chen Xiaodao was stunned for a moment, then laughed loudly. "Then there has to be someone who can master it! Next time, I'll fly the whole course with my eyes closed, you believe me?"
"I don't," Chen Wuwang shook his head. "But if you dare to try, I'll dare to let you fly."
He turned and scanned the surroundings—the technicians were still there, no one had left. They all stood with their heads tilted back, looking at the mecha standing quietly, their eyes shining.
"Today's event," Chen Wuwang's voice wasn't loud, but it carried far. "Remember it."
"What we built isn't a lump of iron."
"It's an eye."
"It's a hand."
"It's a life that can fight a way out for us."
He paused, then raised his hand to point at the Sensory Array on the mecha's head.
"From now on—"
"It can see the wind."
"It can hear the thunder."
"It knows where to go."
The crowd was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Chen Xiaodao stood by the mecha, looking up at the Navigation Core gleaming coldly in the morning light, and suddenly said softly, "Brother, we... we really did it."
Chen Wuwang didn't look back. His right hand began tapping his belt again, the rhythm slow—once, then again.
In the distance, the wind of Qiming Plain swept across the test flight field, making the inscriptions on the mecha's shoulder armor clink softly.
