After checking the time, she moved her husband’s hand from her waist and got off the bed. After tidying herself up, she went to the kitchen and lit the stove. She boiled a pot of water and went to wash up.

To make the soymilk thicker, Yao Zhi only used three cups of water and blended it for two minutes until it was smooth. She worked for almost an hour before she finished.

Afterward, she used several pieces of cheesecloth to strain the mixture over a large pot. Right now, she was strong enough to squeeze out almost all of the liquid. She didn’t throw away the dregs and instead put them into a large bowl.

Forty minutes later, she finished squeezing the liquid and placed the pot on the stove. She removed some firewood and kept the temperature at medium heat.

She continued stirring the liquid until it boiled, then reduced the heat to low. She simmered it for another twenty minutes to remove the beany flavor and ensure it was digestible.

After she was done, she removed most of the firewood, leaving only some embers, and skimmed off the foam and thin film that formed on top of the liquid. Then, she added a drop of spiritual spring water to the soymilk.

While letting the soymilk cool down, she poured the boiled water into the water vat.

Recalling what her husband had said before, she took out a waterskin and filled it with drinking water. Afterward, she added twenty drops of spiritual spring water.

Looking at the brightening sky through the window, Yao Zhi heated the wok, poured in some oil, and made stir-fried soybean pulp with minced meat and soy sauce.
