Chapter 85: Adding Dishes ( 1 ) Hearing her husband’s question, Yao Zhi replied with a smile, "You have to leave early today, so I woke up after midnight to prepare these for you."

Pointing at the waterskin, she said, "I prepared medicinal water and soymilk for you. You can drink the soymilk later for breakfast."

"As for these jars, one contains braised innards, and the other is stir-fried soybean pulp with minced meat. These dishes won’t last long, so you can share them with your comrades."

After she said this, Yao Zhi patted her forehead lightly and said, "Look at my mind, I almost forgot the meat sauce." Reaching out, she opened the bamboo cabinet and took out another jar filled with meat sauce.

"You can eat this meat sauce slowly. It can last longer," she reminded him.

Hearing his wife’s words, Fu Chen’an felt both happy and reluctant. He hugged her from behind and buried his head in her neck, taking a deep breath of her scent.

After a moment, he said, "Wife, thank you. I’m sorry for not being able to spend too much time with you."

Noticing his low mood, Yao Zhi covered his hands with her own and replied, "Husband, I understand. You are a soldier, and you have your responsibilities. You don’t have to worry about me. I will take good care of myself, and I will visit you more often."

Fu Chen’an went silent for a while before letting out a soft grunt. "Mhmm."

"All right, you should eat something first, or you will be late," Yao Zhi said with a smile.

Urged by her, he let her go and had breakfast. That day, she prepared steamed rice for him. Paired with the braised innards and stir-fried soybean pulp, he ate three bowls of rice in one go.

Seeing that he had finished his meal, Yao Zhi poured a cup of soymilk for him and added a spoonful of honey before she stirred until it dissolved completely.

"Husband, try this soymilk. I added some honey to it."

Hearing his wife’s words, Fu Chen’an looked at the milky white soymilk and took a sip.

The moment he tasted the soymilk, Fu Chen’an was surprised. He was lucky to taste goat milk when he was younger. The taste stayed in his memories for years.

Compared to the goat milk he drank before, this soymilk’s taste was nuttier with an earthy taste and less creamy. Although the texture was thinner, he liked the lighter finish. It also didn’t have the tangy, strong aroma of goat milk.

With the addition of honey, the soymilk was sweet, which suited his sweet teeth.

Since his husband enjoyed the meal so much, Yao Zhi managed to eat a bowl of rice, although the breakfast was too heavy for her. After breakfast, Fu Chen’an washed the dishes before packing up.

Worried that her husband would be hungry with the limited rations in the barracks, Yao Zhi bought two packs of steamed buns from the system shop and wrapped them in oil paper. Each pack contained ten buns, which should be more than enough for him.

After packing everything into the bamboo basket, she went to the room.

Seeing that her husband was already done packing his clothes, she went to the cabinet and took out the wound ointment. She handed it to him and said, "Keep this wound ointment with you, just in case."

Fu Chen’an accepted the jar and tucked it into his clothes. Holding her hands, he said, "I will return at the end of the month."

Yao Zhi nodded and hugged him. "Be careful and don’t get hurt."

"Okay."

After their brief goodbye, Fu Chen’an carried his bundle and went to the kitchen to get the bamboo basket. Feeling its heavy weight, he smiled, thinking that it was still his wife who doted on him the most.

The two of them walked to the front yard. Opening the gate, they saw Xiao Wei already waiting there with his small bundle. Besides the small waterskin hanging from his waist, there was nothing else.

When he heard footsteps, Xiao Wei turned around and was stunned to see Fu Chen’an’s luggage. He pointed at the large bamboo basket on his back and asked, "Chen’an, are you moving to the barracks? Why did you bring so many things?"

Fu Chen’an ignored him and turned to his wife. "Wife, I’m leaving. Take a nap later and don’t tire yourself."

"I know. I’ll watch you leave before going inside," Yao Zhi nodded.

Standing to the side, Xiao Wei noticed the sweet atmosphere between them and couldn’t help giving his brother a meaningful look. It seemed that they had finally consummated their marriage.

Urged by his wife, Fu Chen’an finally left, albeit reluctantly. Only when she could no longer see his back did Yao Zhi return to the house and lock the gate.

Meanwhile, Xiao Wei nudged his brother and asked, "Chen’an, when did your relationship with your wife become so good? Did something good happen in the past few days?"

Fu Chen’an gave him a sidelong glance and replied, "My relationship with my wife has always been good. It’s those people who spread baseless rumors."

Not believing him, Xiao Wei looked at him skeptically. But when he looked at the bamboo basket, he couldn’t help doubting the information he heard from his wife.

Pointing at the jars and waterskins, he asked, "Did your wife prepare all of these for you?"

"My wife woke up at midnight just to prepare these for me. She was worried I wouldn’t have enough to eat in the barracks," Fu Chen’an nodded.

"What did your wife make?"

"It’s nothing much, just soymilk, braised innards, stir-fried minced meat, medicinal water, steamed buns, meat sauce, and wound ointment."

Although he replied casually, the pride in his tone was unmistakable.

Thinking about the dry, hard pancakes prepared by his wife, Xiao Wei couldn’t help feeling envious. He sighed and said, "Being newlywed is really good."

Fu Chen’an disagreed with his remark. He believed that even if they had been married for years, his wife would still treat him the same.
