124: Chapter 124 Awakening of Mental Power
After a long time, Thunderstorm spoke.
"Brother Song, what should we do now? That Du guy has the exit blocked. If we try to force our way through, I'm afraid we'll all die!"
The Captain frowned and agreed, "I think our best bet is to find another exit in this underground cave, but we've searched almost every place we could reach over the past few days and found nothing."
Song Yang signaled that he needed some quiet, then walked alone into the depths of the cave.
He sat down on a relatively flat rock and, with a thought, a small blue flower appeared out of thin air in his palm.
This was the mysterious object he had seized from the two foreigners. Since acquiring it, other than knowing it contained some kind of peculiar energy, he had never understood what the flower did.
As Song Yang gazed at it, the petals of the dark blue flower layered and unfolded slowly until it bloomed completely.
The moment it fully blossomed, Song Yang felt his brain jolt violently. An indescribable, stinging pain surged forth, as if countless red-hot steel needles were frantically piercing every one of his nerves.
This pain was not physical torture, but something that reached deep into his soul, as if it wanted to tear his consciousness apart.
Song Yang gritted his teeth. His consciousness writhed and fluctuated in the intense pain, as if it had been thrown into boiling water.
Yet, at the core of this excruciating pain, a faint trace of clarity stubbornly persisted.
He could feel his originally formless and intangible consciousness being forcibly compressed and condensed by this intense pain.
It felt as if centuries had passed, yet it also felt like a mere instant.
The heart-wrenching pain receded like a tide. Song Yang gasped for air, his entire body drenched in cold sweat.
At this moment, Song Yang realized with surprise that his originally scattered consciousness had condensed into a small golden ball, floating in the center of his mind and emitting a glow.
Just then, a young boy's voice sounded: [You actually managed to awaken your psychic power voluntarily? That is simply unscientific.]
It was Zeus! The AI core of the crashed spaceship!
Song Yang's heart skipped a beat. Zeus was in the system space, yet it could still actively communicate with him.
"Psychic power?" Song Yang thought to himself, attempting to communicate with Zeus.
[Yes, psychic power.] Zeus's voice sounded again. [What you just experienced is the phenomenon of your psychic power breaking through a threshold after being highly condensed.]
Song Yang felt the small golden ball in his mind and tried to probe it with a sliver of his consciousness.
In an instant, a brand-new sense spread out. It was no longer about seeing with his eyes or hearing with his ears, but a more direct, more fundamental form of "perception."
He could "see" the Soldiers' expressions in his mind and "hear" the breathing of Thunderstorm and the Captain in the distance. This sensation was incredibly wonderful!
The small blue flower had now completed its mission; its petals closed, and its glow dimmed.
[This flower contained pure psychic energy. When your mind became strong enough, it triggered your latent psychic potential,] Zeus explained.
Song Yang took a deep breath, suppressing the waves of emotion in his heart.
He closed his eyes again and tried to extend his psychic power, like an invisible tentacle, cautiously probing the surrounding rock walls.
The rock structure of this cave was complex, but it was not without gaps.
His psychic power flowed like mercury, penetrating those tiny cracks in the rocks and spreading toward deeper and more distant places.
[I didn't expect you to be able to awaken psychic power. In that case, I'll give you something good that can be powered by psychic energy.] Zeus's voice was crystal clear in his mind: [Since you have awakened your psychic power, this little toy shouldn't be too hard for you to control.]
As soon as the words fell, Song Yang felt a slight fluctuation in the system space. With a thought, he took out that "little toy."
Appearing before him was a dark silver metal board, about a meter long and thirty centimeters wide. Its surface was smooth, with no wheels or obvious propulsion devices. Its design was excessively simple, resembling a meticulously polished surfboard.
[Individual Repulsion Flyer, early model.] Zeus explained, [With your current psychic strength, it is enough to drive it. Stand on it, then focus your psychic power and imagine the direction and altitude you want to go.]
Song Yang looked at the metal board with skepticism. A Repulsion Flyer? It sounded like something out of a science fiction movie.
He took a deep breath, placed the metal board flat on the ground, and stepped onto it. The sensation under his feet was cold and hard.
Following Zeus's instructions, Song Yang closed his eyes and concentrated. He visualized the small golden ball in his mind and tried to separate a wisp of psychic power from it, pouring it into the metal board beneath his feet.
Almost the instant his thought formed, the metal board lifted him up. Song Yang opened his eyes and discovered that he was actually half a meter off the ground, hovering in mid-air!
[Try to make it move.] Zeus's voice sounded at the right moment.
Song Yang steadied himself, cast his gaze toward a protruding rock deep in the cave, and thought, "Go!"
"Whoosh!" A powerful thrust suddenly came, and the metal board shot forward with him like an arrow released from a bow! The speed was far beyond his expectations!
Song Yang only felt the wind whistling past his ears, and the scenes on the cave walls retreating rapidly. At first, he was a bit flustered, but as he continuously adjusted his psychic power, the flyer gradually stabilized.
He tried turning, accelerating, decelerating, and even performing some simple hovering maneuvers in the air. This feeling was more than five times faster than his previous running speed!
[The maximum speed of the Repulsion Flyer will increase as your psychic power grows.] Zeus added, [With your newly awakened psychic power, driving it to a speed of about four hundred meters per second is already quite an impressive performance.]
Four hundred meters per second! Song Yang was shocked. This speed already exceeded the speed of sound, which was 340 meters per second, reaching supersonic levels. With this thing, whether breaking through a siege or pursuing someone, he would be like a tiger with wings!
However, Song Yang knew that the faster the speed, the greater the consumption of psychic power. He still needed to use it cautiously.
Soon, he piloted the flyer to where the others were.
Thunderstorm and the Captain were pointing at a rock wall and discussing something. Caught off guard, they saw Song Yang "floating" over silently, stepping on a metal board they had never seen before, and were instantly stunned.
"Brother Song, did you just fly over?" Thunderstorm pointed at the metal board under Song Yang's feet, his tongue tied.
The Captain also looked horrified. As an officer, he had some understanding of military technology. In his perception, flying skateboards were just conceptual things and very difficult to build in reality.
They had only seen Song Yang go into the depths of the cave alone, and they hadn't expected him to be flying when he returned a moment later.
Song Yang stepped off the flyer, and the metal board hovered quietly beside his feet.
"This is a tool I just acquired, a flyer powered by psychic power," Song Yang explained concisely.
"Powered by psychic power? A flyer?!" Thunderstorm leaned forward and poked the metal board with his finger. The cold, hard touch made him pull his hand back. "Good grief, how fast can this thing fly?"
"Very fast," Song Yang said. "Even if Du Yaohua comes, he won't be able to catch me."
